Offering Announcements 1st Quarter 2017

Welcome to the latest stewardship resource that has been developed to assist you and your church towards a more inspiring worship experience by enhancing the offering announcements each Sabbath. It is not only intended to assist in the preparation of the worship service with by providing key thoughts, Bible texts, an appeal and prayer but to also assist in informing every member and attender of the coming weeks offering so everyone can be prepared. If you are a leader in your church I encourage you to use it as much as possible. Each week photocopy a week in advance and distribute to members and place in their pigeon holes, e-mail it in the church news, pin it on notice boards and share it from the front during the offering time. Your generosity and faithfulness in giving of offerings and resources supports the mission and vision of not only your local church in its community but the church in South Queensland, Australia, the South Pacific and the world. Local Church Budget Genesis 39:2: The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. Joseph went through the most discouraging experience of being hated, rejected, betrayed, almost killed by his own brothers, sold into slavery, framed by a woman and sentenced to prison. Joseph was able to resist the temptation of a beautiful woman although it meant he would go to prison. Because of his faithfulness, the Lord took him from prison and made him prime minister. Joseph s faithfulness stands out as an epitome for every follower of Christ to emulate. We, too, by His grace can choose to be faithful even if it means that we suffer a little while. The Lord Himself will restore us and make us strong. If the thought of giving conjures up the thought of suffering in one s mind, the best way to test that feeling would be to give. So many can testify that giving is truly a great blessing. This year, let us make a deliberate choice and effort to resist all kinds of temptation and remain faithful stewards and the Lord will reward us. Thank you, Father, for the examples of the excellence of faithfulness

Local Church Budget 1 Peter 5:10: And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. Job s life story depicts the struggles he experienced. The Bible portrays him as a man of upright character who loves God and is very wealthy. Yet God in His infinite wisdom allows Satan to assault him by destroying his flocks, material possessions, his children and his own health. Through these experiences, Satan intended to drive a wedge between Job and his God, by getting Job to believe that God was not just and good. Job s life, however, was not built on material possessions but on God; hence, Job refused to give up on God, even though he did not understand why these things were happening to him. Because of his integrity, the Lord blessed the latter part of his life more than the first by giving him double of what he had lost. We, too, must trust God even when we do not understand the difficult situations we face. Let us not allow any experience or anyone drive a wedge between us and God. Let us remain faithful in all situations and continue to trust Him. Lord, thank You for all and in all. Help us to accept whatever You allow to happen to us. May we remain firmly committed and faithful to You.

Education 1 Samuel 1:10: In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the LORD, weeping bitterly. In 1 Samuel chapter one, we read the story of Hannah, a woman who desperately wanted a child of her own. With each passing year the possibilities seemed more dim. Her rival, Penninah, constantly provoked her because of her barrenness. In the midst of her discouragement and mental anguish, she did not abandon her faith but turned to God in prayer. Lord Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his Life, and no razor will ever be used on his head (1 Samuel 1:11). The Lord was able to turn the tables of events upside down by granting her what she asked of Him, and she gave the child back to the Lord as she vowed. Hannah s faithfulness is a testimony to us a great legacy of excellence in faithfulness. As we return the Lord s tithe and give our freewill offerings both in cash or in kind, let us not return or give what costs us little, such as a comfortable tithe or offering, but let us give gifts of true sacrifice. Let us not present to God mere tokens but our entire life. Heavenly Father, thank You that You are a hearing and answering God. Be with our schools, our teachers, staff and students right around our conference as they begin a new year. South Pacific Division Strategy: Discipleship of Adventist Youth The youth Of the SPD are in dire need of more Bibles as it has been 4 years since the last Bible distribution in 2013. Through your donations and offerings the SPD has seen the largest baptismal count in its history (2014-15). Young adults are ready to serve and in fact by them serving and sharing their faith, they become excited about being a disciple of Christ. This offering will go towards purchasing more Bibles for young adults across the Pacific. We are getting continual requests - even from Australia. The offering will work in with our overall strategic plans for the SPD as it forms a part of the harvest cycle. The funds given in previous offerings were used in part to sponsor specific initiatives across the South Pacific from tertiary student funding requests, to sponsoring mission events for Pathfinders such as Camporees, and to outreach focused programs such as resource development 1 Peter 5:10: And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. White says that Christians are safe only in acquiring money as God directs, and using it in channels which he can bless (Counsels on Stewardship, p. 141). Let us not allow any experience or anyone drive a wedge between us and God. Let us remain faithful in all situations and continue to trust Him. Lord, thank You for all and in all. Help us to accept whatever You allow to happen to us. May we remain firmly committed and faithful to You. Amen.

Local Church Budget John 12:8: You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me. In The Adventist Home, p. 369, Ellen G. White says, If we have prosperity in our secular business, it is because God blesses us. A part of this income is to be devoted to the poor, and a large portion to be applied to the cause of God. Committed Christians should learn to give to God through His church and share with the poor. Ephesians 5:25 teaches that Jesus loved the church and gave himself up for her. All followers of Christ should practice loving the church by giving to God and to the poor through the church. As we return our tithes and give our offerings for outreach and church budget today, let us remember that wherever our money goes, there goes a part of our life! Hence, our giving becomes more meaningful. We are tangibly giving part of ourselves to God through the church. Loving Father, teach us to follow the example of our Savior. As we return Your tithe and give our freewill offerings today, help us to remember that we are giving up a part of our lives, for where our treasure is, there will our hearts be also. Amen.

Education Philippians 4:12: I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Paul is one Bible character who shows us that contentment is a Bible principle and therefore should become part of our way of life as Christians. Addressing the Roman soldiers in Luke 3:14, Jesus said, Don t exhort money and don t accuse people falsely be content with your pay. The same advice is especially important to us in today s world, where we receive thousands of messages daily trying to persuade us to buy things we do not need and with money we do not have. Ellen G. White in Selected Messages, vol. 2, p. 200, advises, You are to receive a definite sum as wages for your work, and live within that sum. Let us practice the principle of spending less money than we receive, so that we can be generous rather than dependent. Lord, teach us to learn to be content and learn to live within the means You give us. Amen. Disaster and Famine Relief What is your specific goal for the offering contribution? In 2016, ADRA Australia raised $335,000 for the Disaster and Famine Relief Offering. In 2017, we hope to raise $350,000 to help support the immediate and long term relief efforts of ADRA Australia. How will the offering be used in 2017? All funds raised through the Disaster and Famine Relief Offering go to ADRA Australia s Disaster Preparedness and Response Fund. This fund is used to provide training to disaster response personnel, to provide immediate response to disasters such as water, food and shelter, and to support the long-term emergency response to help Communities to rebuild following a disaster. James 1:17: Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. Our lives are a gift to be returned lovingly and systematically to the River of Life. Luke 6:38 tells us to give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Ellen G. White in Testimonies, vol. 6, p. 448, says, In God s kingdom there is a constant interchange taking in, and giving out; receiving, and returning to the Lord His own. She goes on to remind us in Counsels on Stewardship, p. 50, that as you cooperate with Christ, your hand will open to impart still more. And God will refill your hand. He will give to you that you may give to others. We continually receive God s blessings, and we are to continually give them away to make room for receiving more! Heavenly Father, thank You for all the good gifts we receive from You. Help us to lovingly and systematically return them to You. Amen.

Local Church Budget Proverbs 22:7: The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender. In biblical times, financial indebtedness meant physical bondage, but that has been replaced by mental anxiety, stress and depression in today s world. Many people are shackled by excessive debt. The results are that families are destroyed because of financial worries and loss of peace. People feel frustrated and intimidated at home and outside. They lack physical energy and enthusiasm. Spiritual lives are ruined and lives are even lost. Low self-esteem is produced and cultivated, and a timidity is developed that leads to the inability to minister to others as God directs. There is no motivation to speak about Christ. The Adventist Home, pp. 392, 393, continues to advise that when one becomes involved in debt he is in one of Satan s nets, which he sets for souls. Deny yourself a thousand things rather than run into debt. Get out of debt and stay out of debt, because when we are in debt we lose a portion of our God-given freedom. Almighty God, help us as Your children to live debt-free lives and to put You first in our lives, even as we return Your tithe and give our freewill offerings. Amen.

Conference Wide Offering Vital Connection 2 Corinthians 13:5: Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you? unless, of course, you fail the test? Our attitudes and habits regarding money and possessions demonstrate to God our usefulness to Him and whether we can be trusted with riches eternally. They also reveal much to Him about each of us. The rich young ruler of Matthew 19:16-22 wanted to be Christ s disciple. It appeared as though he kept all the commandments. But his attitude toward wealth was wrong. The attitude of every Christian regarding money and possessions should be based on these three important principles: 1. God owns and provides and should be first in everything. 2. God s providence to me should benefit my household. 3. I should also share God s blessings with the world. When we think Mission to the Cities, Vital Connection plays a vital role in ministering to the needs of those less fortunate in Brisbane City by not only feeding them healthy food but also sharing the love of Jesus through loving acts of kindness. Today you have the opportunity to support and resource this important ministry through the giving of your offering. Ellen G. White in her book Our High Calling, p. 192, says, Open your account book and see how your account stands with God, with your household, and with the world. Lord, You own everything in heaven and on earth. Thank You for providing for us. Help us to put You first in all and to be a blessing to others. Amen

Adventist World Radio Romans 10:14: How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? Adventist World Radio is filling a unique role on the front lines of church outreach. Radio waves carry the gospel to places where church workers would otherwise have a very difficult time entering and people are listening! From North Africa and Sudan, to Bangladesh and China, people are hearing of God s love for the first time through AWR s programs, and they are responding with testimonies of transformed lives. One new believer in Ethiopia wrote: I found your station accidentally. After listening to your programs for the last two years, I started to go to church. My life is changing gradually. I would like to tell you that many people are listening to your programs. God bless you! Adventist World Radio s programs can be heard in more than 100 languages, through shortwave, local AM/FM radio, and podcasts. These broadcasts bypass harsh governments and hostile cultures, bringing hope directly into people s homes and hearts. But there are still millions of listeners who cannot hear the message of salvation in a language they can understand. With your help, AWR can keep adding new languages and reach ever-further into untouched territories. We invite you today to partner with AWR in this vital ministry. Multiply our offerings today dear Lord for this cause. Amen

Local Church Budget Acts 20:35: It is more blessed to give than to receive. John Wesley was preaching to a large congregation. There was a farmer sitting in the front row. Wesley began by saying: Make all you can! The farmer smiled; he agreed with that. The next point was: Save all you can! The farmer nodded approvingly. The third point was: Give all you can! A frown covered the farmer s face. The preacher had gone too far (The Homiletic Review, vol. XLIII, Jan Jun, 1902, p. 449). Most people see receiving as a blessing, but the Bible teaches that we are blessed when we give. Why? 1. Giving reflects the character of God. God is a giving God: For God so loved the world that He gave (John 3:16). 2. Giving results in the giver being blessed: A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will himself be refreshed (Proverbs 22:9). 3. Givers bring blessings to others. Those who give to the poor will lack nothing (Proverbs 28:27). There are two kinds of people in the world: givers and receivers. Which one are you? Be a giver and you ll be blessed. Dear God, thank You for Your excellent example of generosity. Help us to emulate You. Amen.

Education 2 Corinthians 9:7: Each one of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Giving reflects the character of God. God is a giving God. John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that He gave He demonstrates His love with the action of giving. He gives continually; there is no ending to the list of things that God gives us. He gives not because of what He has, but because it is His nature to give. Our human nature is contrary to His. We want to receive. Sometimes we give to impress people, but the giving that reflects the nature of God is done as an act of love to the recipient. This is not something that we can manufacture for ourselves or force ourselves to do; it is a manifestation of God s special work in our hearts. The closer we come to God, the more we reflect His nature. John Maxwell in his book The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader, teaches that giving is the highest level of living because we are like God when we give. Decide today to partner with God and become a giver. Givers are happy people. They live for others and are loved and appreciated by others. Our Father in heaven, we thank You this morning that You gave and that You continue to give. Help us to become givers too. Amen.
