FAITH IN ACTION By Deb Wegner-Hohensee Today Mark s Gospel gives us two very different examples of faith in action. Jairus and his 12 year old daughter and the woman af licted with a bleeding disorder for 12 years. Can you imagine the types of fears Jairus and the woman may have had? A town leader requesting help from Jesus he had heard and hoped that the stories were true about His healing powers. A woman, a social paranoia because of her illness was legally cut off from any public participation crossed both gender and purity boundaries, just to touch the hem of Jesus cloak. Their faith in Jesus saved them both. These two people had courage, perseverance, con idence and unwavering faith to keep going overcoming their fears of the society they lived in. Faith in Jesus s healing powers. Jesus told us that fear is the lack of faith. An acronym for the word fear; False Expectations Appearing Real can paralyze us into indifference from time to time from the uncertainty of our faith. Fear is so universal and potentially dangerous there are many examples Jesus used in the Gospels. To address the topic: Fear is useless. He said on many occasions do not be afraid. Both at Jesus conception and trans iguration, the angels said: fear not. When we put aside fear, the power of faith is able to generate new life. Perfect love casts out all fear. [1 JN: 4:18} As a member of our faith community we have the assurance of Jesus of God s unconditional love for us; when we gather around the altar on Sunday, we celebrate and indicate that we have the active support of others who share the same vision. Have you ever had to trust God in the face of a seemingly impossible challenge? How did that impact your faith? St Francis said, Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words remember, you may be the only bible someone reads today. Challenge yourself this week. Be the FAITH IN ACTION for others.
