We invite you to take part in the service by coming down to the altar to lay hands on Peggy and speak a word of encouragement and affirmation as we consecrate her for this role of servant ministry. In addition to Peggy, the following deacons are installed today: Kevin Clark, John Fry, Sr., Russell Honeycutt, Rick Jones, Harold McAbee, Michael O Neal, Pam Wacter, and Rob Wilson. We will give these newly-elected deacons the privilege of leading the ordination processional. This special day is followed by a special month, a month of frenetic activity and numerous opportunities for worship and fellowship. On Tuesday, the Baptist Men will hold their last meeting of the spring, at 6:30 pm. Our program will be provided by our talented bluegrass band. Tickets are on sale today! On Wednesday, May 9, our children s choir and our youth choir will be presenting their spring concert in the sanctuary at 6:45 pm. I know you will want to honor their hard work and the commitment of their leaders, accompanists and assistants, by making a special effort to be present that evening. On Friday, May 9, our youth are sponsoring a Parents Night Out. The evening is designed for parents to drop off their kids at the church as early as 6 pm and pick them up at 9 pm. This service is free, but donations are accepted, even encouraged. On the following Wednesday, May 16, we will have our inaugural mission auction. We will enjoy a lovely meal together, then have a silent and live auction to raise money for our Puerto Rico mission trip. We are trying to finalize our list of items for the auction, so please contact Jim Jones, Russell Honeycutt, or if you have items for auction. The final day to offer something for auction is Sunday, May 13. Plan to be there on the 16th and come prepared to spend money! On Monday, May 14, the Red Cross will be at Vineville for a Blood Drive. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Kelly, who is our Vineville liaison to the Red Cross. Sunday, May 20, is a very special day in the life of our church. We will combine our morning services to recognize and honor our high school seniors. This is always one of our most meaningful services of the year. Youth, remember that you will be enjoying a cookout at the Kremers house on the preceding Friday evening, May 18. Come, and invite a friend! If you are a visitor or a recent new member, look for a letter in the mail from me this week. For the last several years the Outreach Committee has held a dinner in honor of our visitors and most recent members. This event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 22. Great food and fellowship will be the order of the evening. Melissa will be serving you some of her excellent lasagna. Make plans to attend. I always look forward to May, for each Sunday is tinged with significance. I tailor my sermons to the tenor of each special Sunday. Next week I will look at perhaps the second most important person in the early church. Surprise, it is not the apostle Paul. The following Sunday, on Mother s Day, I will be preaching a sermon on relationships, especially marriage relationships, in a message entitled, Who Sets the Agenda? On Senior Sunday I will challenge the young people, and us all, with a sermon entitled, The Great Question. And on Memorial Day weekend, I will be speaking on the power and meaning of the priesthood of the believer in a message entitled, The Revolution Has Begun. A word from your pastor, Dr. Sympathy We extend Christian sympathy to the following families: Charles and Sherry Burton in the death of Charles son, Alan. The family of Helen Love.
