11/18/2017 The Book Of Daniel In Conclusion What Daniel saw in the vision was an ETERNAL KINGDOM not one of just a 1000 years in duration. Note how Daniel describes the kings and the earth: Daniel 7:12 - As for the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time. Daniel 7:25-26 - He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand For a time and times and half a time. But the court shall be seated, And they shall take away his dominion, To consume and destroy it forever. Daniel does not see a kingdom of a mere thousand years in existence but rather an eternal kingdom Heb 12:28; 1 Cor. 15:28 6
The 4 beast are the 4 kingdoms of Nebuchadnezzar s dream. The ten horns are kings of the 4th kingdom and not Kingdoms. The 11th horn may be Domitian or the sum of the persecutors of the church. The saints are in possession of the kingdom because God is judging His enemies The kingdom is eternal in nature. Having received this kingdom we look for Christ to return for His saints and to judge the wicked. We are confident through faith that Christ ever lives and rules over the righteous in righteousness. 11/18/2017 The Book Of Daniel In Conclusion 7
Daniel 8 The Ram and He Goat 8 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last. I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great. - Daniel 8:3-4 11/18/2017 The Book Of Daniel
11/18/2017 The Book Of Daniel Daniel 8 The Circumstances of The Vision This chapter expands the visions of chapters two and seven. Chronologically, it was before the fall of Belshazzar in chapter 5 --- (539 B.C.). In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me, Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first. The third year would be 550 B.C. 9
11/18/2017 The Book Of Daniel Daniel 8 The Circumstances of The Vision In Daniel's vision, he was in a city 250 miles east of Babylon and in a palace which may not have been built yet. This is probably the same palace referred to in Esther. In reality, Daniel was still living in Babylon. The text is in Hebrew from here to the end. The visions no longer relate to Babylon and so its diplomatic language is not used. The text is related to Israel, Daniel's people. 10
11/18/2017 The Book Of Daniel Daniel 8 The Circumstances of The Vision The vision appeared, unlike before Daniel has a vision which he differentiates from a dream 7:1-2; 2:19. This vision finds Daniel awake at the river Ulai in Elam 8:3 where as Daniel had been asleep in the previous visions. after that which appeared unto me at the first seems to be a reference to the vision of Chapter 7, but it may also be a reference to Nebuchadnezzar s vision in Chapter 2. 13
A ram with two horns: One horn is higher than the other and pushes westward, northward and southward 8:3-4. This Ram became GREAT. A he-goat from the WEST with ONE GREAT HORN between his eyes coming so fast that his hooves touched not the ground. The national emblem of Greece was a goat and is found on ancient Greek coins. The ancient capital of Macedonia was called Aegae - the goat city. The waters next to Greece was called the Aegean, or "Goat Sea. The he-goat butted the ram and broke his horns and stamped him with his feet and no one could deliver the ram. 11/18/2017 The Book Of Daniel Daniel 8 What Daniel Sees In The Vision 14
After this the he-goat waxed great for awhile, but his horn was broken and four horns came up in its place: One to the North One to the South One to the East And One to the West. A little horn came up and out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. --- 8:9-10 11/18/2017 The Book Of Daniel Daniel 8 What Daniel Sees In The Vision 15
His greatness was such that he caused the sacrifice to be taken away and the sanctuary to be cast down. and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. vrs 11. Two saints talking reveal the oppression of the sanctuary and this lasts 2,300 days. The period (2300 days) are undoubtedly referring to the period of Antiochus' abominable treatment of the Jews. This began in the year 171 B.C., one year before his return from his second expedition to Egypt. In this year began the laying waste of the sanctuary. The termination would then be the death of Antiochus (164 B.C.). The 2300 days cover a period of six years and about 4 months. It is then that Gabriel came and explained the vision and how it related to the time of the end. vrs 19b. 11/18/2017 The Book Of Daniel Daniel 8 What Daniel Sees In The Vision 16
