Welcome to St Barnabas Church Mission Statement To make disciples of Jesus, who make a difference for Jesus in a world that needs Jesus Vision Statement Jesus is calling us to build a church that is rooted in the bible. Where people encounter the transforming power of God; in the worship; in the teaching; and in the values and lifestyles of its members.
WELCOME, WE HOPE YOU FIND THIS BOOKLET HELPFUL Greetings A very warm welcome to St. Barnabas. We are so pleased that you decided to visit our church here at the heart of Bearwood. We are a church of all ages that is desiring to put the Lord Jesus Christ at the heart of our personal and corporate life. We love God s word found in the Bible, we believe in it s authority, and it s wisdom, and we are trying to build a church, like the wise builder in the parable of Jesus, on the rock of his teaching. We love to worship and praise our God in song, and use contemporary music with which to do that. We meet in others homes like that first Christian community, and hope to mirror them in the way we incarnate what we say we believe. We are trying to be a lighthouse on this estate, that warns people of the dangers of drifting away from God, but also to guide them into a relationship with a creator and father that love s them. We would seek to do all that not as lone rangers, but as a community that although flawed and fragile nonetheless reflects something of the grace of God. If the Holy Spirit encourages you to join us, we would love to see you again. If we had to describe the church we would place ourselves in the New Wine stable. We are Evangelical and Charismatic, we believe in the authority of the Bible, but just because God has written a book does not mean that He has stopped speaking and moving powerfully in His church. We believe that the 'Gifts of the Holy Spirit' as Paul outlines them in his letters are available today, and we are trying to learn how to walk in them and minister them to each other and the community that we are trying to serve. We are a medium sized local community church of just over a 100 adults plus young people on a Housing estate called Bearwood, an area that lies between Bournemouth and Poole. The Church was a plant from Canford Magna Church and the Lantern Church on Merley, they are both just two miles down the road from Bearwood. The Church was opened in 1982 and celebrated it s 25th Anniversary in 2007. After 23 years of being called Bearwood Church Centre, the leadership felt it right to give the church a name and so in January 2005 the Bishop of Sherborne Tim Thornton dedicated the Church and named it St.Barnabas. Prayer Ministry - Prayer Ministry teams are available to pray with you at our 10.30am services. Pastoral Care - If you or someone else you know would like a pastoral visit or home communion please contact the office - 01202 579562. Sunday Services at 10.30am Services at St Barnabas are informal but still liturgical. We celebrate Holy Communion twice a month and on the other two services we have Prayer, Praise and a Preach: this is centred on sung worship, testimony and the preaching of the Bible. We usually have themed preaching as we believe it is important to be teaching particular things at particular times. Sometimes we may teach through a book in the bible, and at other times we will highlight certain aspects of Christian Discipleship.
