1 GOOD NEWS FROM CHRIST OUR SAVIOR LUTHERAN CHURCH CHRIST OUR SAVIOR Volume 13 Issue 3 February 2018 Hi COS it is good to be among you. I ve met many great people already and look forward to meeting more of you. In this 1 st phase of the Intentional Interim Ministry I am conducting interviews with any who want to talk to me about the History of Christ Our Savior. There are sheets on a table in the back of the sanctuary for you to pick a time to meet with me. As of this writing I ve conducted about 18 interviews that are helping me put together a history of our church. All are invited to sign up for an interview. If you don t see a time that works or you need an evening appointment please email me with a couple of options and I will contact you about the appointment. In the second phase which will start in late Feb or March we will be forming a transition team which will meet about once a month to work through issues and make plans for the church and calling your next pastor. If you are a leader in any area of Christ Our Savior we want you to be on this transition team. By next Fall, we hope to know and agree on what we are as a congregation and an idea of where we want go in fulfilling our mission of sharing the love and grace of God to those around us. Getting clarity and consensus on these types of issues will help guide us in the Call process for a new permanent pastor at COS. PLEASE BE PRAYING ABOUT THIS PROCESS!! Satan loves to attack church people and bring division and disruption to the body of Christ. We can fight this through consistent worship, prayer and Bible study that will help us to do what St. Paul says in 2Cor.10 -- take every thought captive to the Lord Jesus Christ. I know everyone will not be at all events but the more consistent we are in our worship, Bible study and prayer the more successful we will be in helping this transition to be a true transformation in our hearts. God bless us and protect us as we move forward together. Peace IIM Pastor Todd Brunworth Sunday Morning Schedule 9:15 AM Worship 10:30 AM Children s Sunday School 10:45 AM Adult Bible Study Rev. 2 Cos newsl 2-18 A Note from Pastor Todd We are in the midst of the first procedural aspect of the Intentional Interim process-gathering history. As of Jan. 23 I have completed 19 interviews (about 26 people) and about 10 more are scheduled so far through the end of January. I appreciate your cooperation. Common threads are showing up. Good statements are being made about COS and many are praying for a better future. The next stage of the IIM process will be the formation of a transition team. This group will probably meet once a month, and will work through various aspects of church life and mission. If you are a leader in any area of COS (Council, boards, committees, Bible studies, work groups, food activities, etc.) you should plan to be on this transition team. Others can also join - having 30+ people is fine. Hopefully by the end of Feb. we will be getting the Transition Team in place and begin to work toward our path forward. To do this we need all of you to be very regular in our worship, Bible Study and prayer. We need the Holy Spirit to change all of us and guide us to the solutions we need. Devotions and prayer are critical to the successful conclusion of this transition process. The Lenten season is fast approaching (Ash Wed is Feb. 14 th ). The theme for midweek services is forthcoming. Many people choose to give something up for Lent. Instead I invite you to take something on for your Lenten discipline. I hope you will join your fellow COS members in reading the six chief parts of Luther s Small Catechism each day according to this schedule: Monday The Ten Commandments Tuesday The Apostles Creed Wednesday The Lord s Prayer Thursday The Sacrament of Holy Baptism Friday Confession Saturday The Sacrament of the Altar Sunday Daily prayers, Table of Duties, or Christian Question/answers The Small Catechism is found on page 321 in the Lutheran Service Book or follow the box link. We are checking on the possibility getting a printed pamphlet of the Catechism for those who need one. Please set up an interview if you wish to be a part of that process. If you have an issue personal or otherwise I am available to talk with you by phone or at the office if you so desire.

The cash will be used to pay for expenses associated with hosting the LWML s National Convention to be held in Lexington, KY in 2021. Just bring your contributions to COS and put them in the recycling bin. It s easy and it s good for the environment also. Questions about what we can recycle? Check out the poster in the sanctuary or call Esther Klug at 269-561-2925. Your LWML thanks you!

4 Offering Counters Needed We need additional teams of 2 to count the offerings. Many of those who are on a counting team have flown off to warmer climates for a few months! This takes about an hour, and training is available. Please see Mark Johnson, Council President or Derk Teusink, Financial Secretary to sign up, or to have your questions answered. We are looking for more Bible Readers and Bulletin Folders for the new year. Please sign up for a date that works for you. Sign-up sheets are on west end of Sanctuary on Bulletin Board. What a great way to PtL. Thank you. WORSHIP FOR SHUT-INS Worship for Shut-Ins is a Lutheran television 30 minute worship service. It includes the Propers for the day, prayers, and a LCMS pastor delivering a message that is one-on-one to the viewer. Also included are up to four choir selections. There are no commercials or repeats. It is shown at 11:30 A.M. on local cable channel 54 or 21. Xfinity channel This may also be viewed on our website: www.cosholland.com by going to the Sermons & Media section. MISSION-GIVING UPDATE (including Local Benevolences ) We joyfully respond to a resolution of the congregation passed several years ago that 10% of all General Fund offerings would be designated for Missions. That percentage, then, is divided into two parts; so that 7% of the total General Fund offerings go for mission-work through our District and Synod, and 3% of the total is given for Local Benevolences. Recently our Elders have distributed the Local Benevolence portions for January as follows: One half each to: BARNABAS MINISTRY & CHILD ADVOCACY CENTER CHURCH COUNCIL LEADERS: President Mark Johnson V. Positions to be filled at this convention include District President, Regional Vice President, District Secretary, members of the Board of Directors, Church Extension Fund Board, and Circuit Visitor. These positions are open to Pastors, and in some cases lay people. Our Circuit was seeking nominations for our Circuit Visitor last fall, and the Council recommended Michael Goers, pastor at St. Matthews in Spring Lake. Any member wishing to provide input on remaining nominations on behalf of Christ Our Savior should discuss their recommendation with Mark Johnson, Council President no later than February 17, 2018. Upcoming Positions to be Filled Christ Our Savior s Spring Voter s Meeting is right around the corner, so a prayful focus by all members is needed. The primary item on the agenda will be voting on new representatives for the Church Council, Elders, and Trustees. Positions are open due to term limits, and to fill current vacancies. Open positions without a nominee include President, Secretary, Financial Secretary, Stewardship, and Elder & Trustee positions. It is also election year for Education, however, Jane Martinsen is a nominee for the position. If you are willing to serve please contact Mark Johnson, Council President, an existing Council Member or Elder. Position descriptions are on the bulletin board by the side double doors for your review. Training would be provided by the outgoing office holder so the transition will be smooth and easy!
