TERRYVILLE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMITTEE 2018 SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT The Terryville Congregational Church Christian Education Committee will award a scholarship to any senior student who is an active member of the Terryville Congregational Church and will continue his or her education upon graduation. Post-secondary education includes: colleges, universities, business schools, technical schools, enrollment in a branch of the military. In addition to active Church membership and continuing education, the scholarship will be based on participation in Church service activities. Support of Terryville Congregational Church through involvement in Church sponsored activities provides the student with a diverse look at the functions of the Church while enhancing their appreciation of the spiritual aspects of the Church. The attached application form is available to be completed by any interested student. Completed applications including the essay requirement and a photo (scan and forward as a.jpg file) must be returned no later than Friday, May 4, 2018. Email your completed application, essay and picture to Tricia Kovaleski, Member of Christian Education Committee, at tmkbaskets@sbcglobal.net. Include TCC Scholarship in the subject line. The Christian Education Committee will review all applications and award scholarships to those applicants meeting all qualifications. Please note your application along with essay, photo and Church Activity Log may be displayed on a Scholarship Bulletin board for review by Church members and guests. The 2018 Scholarship Presentation will be conducted on Children s Sunday on May 20, 2018. Attendance by the student or a family member is required to receive a scholarship. Career Goals Essay In 500 words or less (no less than 1 page), explain how your personal, school and Church experiences have influenced your decision to pursue your educational and career goals. How will these experiences help you attain success in your chosen career? Please include information about your career goals and what has influenced you to pursue this choice. Your essay should be neatly typed and included with your completed Scholarship Application. Please note your essay may be published in a future edition of the TCC Newsletter or displayed as part of a Scholarship Awards bulletin board. Church Activity Requirements The Terryville Congregational Church Christian Education Committee Scholarship requires participation in Church activities. Involvement in Church sponsored activities provides the student with a diverse look at the functions of the Church while enhancing their appreciation of the spiritual aspects of the Church. Church Activity requirements include 5 hours per year totaling 20 hours of service supporting functional and spiritual aspects of the Church Community. Strive to complete 2 different activities or a variety of activities totaling 5 hours each year. Activities include the following or others approved by the C.E. Committee: Participation at the Roast Beef dinner, Christmas Bazaar, Church Fair, Bingo, Rally Day, Eli Terry and Gosinski Park Dinners Involvement in the full range of committees in our church that coordinate and oversee the various ministries. There are many opportunities to be involved Trustees (building and grounds), Deacons (spiritual life), Christian Education (Sunday School), Out Reach, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Social and Education (social events), Communications, Music. Vacation Bible School and 30 Hour Famine are not included in service activity hours. Activities other than those specified above require approval by the C.E. Committee prior to completion of service.
