A Note from Pastor Ron Are you in love with the world, or in love with the Savior? Jesus said If you do not eat this bread and drink this cup, you have no part in me. Pretty stern words, are they not? You often hear me talk about the importance of partaking of Holy Communion; that it actually represents, with true effect, an increased awareness of the presence of Christ (Assuming you are a true believer). This coming October 7th, churches all around the globe will celebrate World Communion Sunday. Most of you have heard about World Communion Sunday, but may not know much about where it originated. In 1936, World Communion Sunday began in the Presbyterian Church and was adopted by the Federal Council of Churches in 1940. Since then, the celebration has grown into an international ecumenical celebration of Christian unity. The key word for World Communion Sunday is Communion, or unity with Christ in His sufferings and death, and because of that, we can also commune with Him in His resurrection (i.e. Our resurrection!). Awesome, huh? It is a day when we break bread with one another and remember both the night of Jesus betrayal when Jesus instituted what we now call the Lord s Supper as a lasting remembrance and of His sacrifice. Some Bible scholars believe there is a hint of Pentecost as well, when people from around the Mediterranean world came together in mutual understanding and inspiration, by the power of the Holy Spirit. World Communion Sunday is a time for remembering that around the globe in different languages, with different traditions and customs, and in various forms of liturgy the Lord s Supper is celebrated throughout the Christian world. World Communion Sunday is one of those moments in the church year like Ascension Sunday, maybe that can pass by without most people really understanding what and why they celebrate that day. So here is my point: Don t let World Communion Sunday end on October 8. World Communion Sunday is on the Christian calendar for a reason: it can and should be a time of profound Christian unity, marked by a renewed commitment to Christ as you participate in the celebration of the Lord s Supper. Jesus instituted the first such meal and World Communion Sunday is a helpful way in which Christ calls us back together to celebrate the liturgy in remembrance of me. People who are going to end up in Glory, forever in paradise, are people who understand where the Christian rubber meets the road.where the talk or the show translates to the life that is truly hidden with Christ in God. Jesus is coming! Are you ready? pastorron
