MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE Sunday, November 11, 2018, 10:00 a.m. ORGAN PRELUDE: Chorale Prelude on O Jesus, Thou Art Standing Gordon Young (1919-1998) ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP: from www.worshipconnection.cokesbury.com Leader: Welcome this day to a celebration of hope and abundance. People: We have come from a busy week in which we have been pulled this way and that, with demands on our lives, our time, our energy. Leader: Come and rest in the Lord who heals and restores you. People: We need this restoration in all of our lives. Leader: Pour out your needs to the Lord who will always hear and respond. People: Lord, we praise you and seek your calming spirit in our lives. We give ourselves to you. Leader: Let us come with heart and soul and mind and strength, and let us worship God. *HYMN: Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty PH #251 blue Verse 2; sing 3 times, as a meditation Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore thee, Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be. OPENING PRAYER (written by Ronald S. Beebe) Holy God, we come before you with awe, for you are great in love and power. Some of us may come with reluctance and some with joy; some with sadness and others full of fear, yet we know you receive us as we are. Mighty God, stay with us always, as we worship and as we share the risk and challenge of living our faith. By your powerful Spirit, turn

our fear to courage and our confusion to confidence. Touch us, O God, with your healing fire. Speak to us through your Word. Send us back into the world renewed and eager to do your will. We pray in the name of Jesus, who taught us to pray THE LORD'S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen. *GLORIA PATRI: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen CHILDREN S SERMON Rev. Marlayna and Erica Williams After the children s sermon, children and youth may follow Miss Erica to the Chapel. MORNING PRAYER Joys and Concerns Pastoral Prayer Silent Prayer ANTHEM: Stayed On Jesus Spiritual Arranged by Alice Parker (b. 1925) Rebecca Shrimpton, soprano O I Woke up this mornin With my mind, and it was stayed on Jesus. Hallelujah. Can t hate yo neighbor in yo mind if you keep it stayed on Jesus. Hallelujah. O the devil can t catch you in yo mind if you keep it stayed on Jesus. Hallelujah. Makes you love ev rybody in yo mind when you keep it stayed on Him. Hallelujah. O I woke up stayed on Jesus. Hallelujah, Lordy: my mind is stayed on Jesus. Hallelujah. SCRIPTURE READING: Mark 12:38-44 38 As Jesus taught, he said, Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39 and to have the best seats in the synagogues

and places of honor at banquets! 40 They devour widows houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation. 41 He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. 43 Then he called his disciples and said to them, Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44 For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on. SERMON: Giving Our All to God MOMENT OF MEDITATION TESTIMONIAL: Bethany Woods OFFERTORY OFFERTORY ANTHEM: What Gift Can We Bring Words and Music by Jane Marshall (b. 1924) What gift can we bring, what present, what token? What words can convey it, the joy of this day? When grateful we come, remembering, rejoicing, what song can we offer in honor and praise? Give thanks for the past, for those who had vision, who planted and watered so dreams could come true. Give thanks for the now, for study, for worship, for mission that bids us turn prayer into deed. Give thanks for tomorrow, full of surprises, for knowing whatever tomorrow may bring, the Word is our promise always, forever, we rest in God s keeping and live in God's love. This gift we now bring, this present, this token, these words can convey it, the joy of this day! When grateful we come, remembering, rejoicing, this song we now offer in honor and praise! *DOXOLOGY: Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise God all creatures here below, Praise God above ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. PRAYER OF DEDICATION

*HYMN: God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending NCH #565 black *[The Removal of the Flame, which symbolizes the Spirit of God accompanying us out into the world] *BENEDICTION *CHORAL RESPONSE BELLS OF PEACE At the request of the Amaral Bailey Post 113 American Legion in Manchester by the Sea, we will be ringing our church bell at the end of worship 21 times at 11 am on November 11 th to commemorate the 100 th anniversary of the ending of World War 1. Format of the study is as follows: we begin with sharing joys and concerns, we have a time of prayer (where people are free to pray silently or out loud), and then 2 volunteers read the text out loud, while we all notice which words the Spirit draws our attention to. (This way of reading Scripture is called Lectio Divina. ) We each have the opportunity to share with others the words speak to us, as well as ask questions about the text. We also discuss how the text might apply to our lives today. The study is led by Rev. Marlayna. All are welcome to join us! No prior knowledge of the Bible is necessary. Email or call Rev. Marlayna for more information.
