2018 AARDAHL AMBASSADOR Fall is an amazingly bizarre time of the year. The leaves of the trees change from green into brilliant colors that are beautiful. The fields are ripe with crops. The air is cooler, crisper and the bugs are gone. And there is the anticipation of all of the holidays, starting with Halloween. And yet, we are also surrounded by the end of things. The leaves are changing color because they are not receiving as much sun and so they are dying and will fall off of the trees. Those fields and gardens that we worked so hard to plant and cultivate are emptied and covered with stalks and scraps. For the hunters, while there is beauty and majesty of being in the woods and bagging a deer, there is death for that deer. And the cooler weather is just an indicator of what will soon be here. That s right, that other four-letter word that begins with S and ends with now. I am one of those who has trouble seeing the beauty of fall because I know what is coming. Winter is coming. Whiteness, starkness & death. For me, fall is like riding up that first hill of a rollercoaster. You know that the freefall is coming, but still you dread it. But we still get on the roller coaster because we know that in the end, it will bring us back to where we began and it will be a fun and exciting ride. It is a cycle that repeats itself over and over again, just like our seasons. I try really hard to remember what is on the other side of the cycle of seasons, but it is hard. Sometimes, we need to just sit in that season and not look forward or backwards, but just live it. And realize that we are not stuck in that season. Time is marching forward and the seasons will repeat, it is a cycle. And sometimes, we need the darkness and cold so that when we are on the other side and there is light and warmth, we can enjoy it even more. Thank God!
