Dear Parents & Friends of Kuyper, Thursday 7 June 2018 Song Writing Time Song writing is a wonderful expression of creativity and challenge. The author has a unique opportunity to comment on things around them. It brings together ideas, passions, words, melody and rhythm. It offers opportunity to both the songwriter and the audience to enjoy talents and story. It gives insight to things around us. In staff devotions this year, we have been enjoying looking closely at the Psalms. As a boy, King David honed his musical and song writing skills. Along with his love for God, David s skills in song-writing caused his compositions to be more than mere entertainment. They became Biblical songs of worship and praise to the Creator. Below is a song we have been learning and singing in Primary Music lessons and Assemblies (have you been to one yet?). If you would like to know how the song goes, ask a Primary Student to sing it to you. All the Time VERSE 1 All the time, I can talk to you In the sunshine and the rain All the time, I can tell You anything About the laughter and the pain CHORUS Every night and every day (echo) Talk to Jesus, pray, pray, pray (echo) Every night and every day (echo) Talk to Jesus, pray pray pray VERSE 2 All the time, I can talk to you In the darkness and the light All the time, I can tell You anything When I m getting it wrong or getting it right Now it s your turn to write a new verse or two. Can you see the formula? NEW VERSE All the time, I can All the time, I can So you just need two new ideas or lines with a rhyming couplet. It s really clever if your new idea contains some sort of opposite as well, e.g. darkness and light or sunshine and rain and, bingo, a new verse! Easy right? If you want to hear your verses sung at an assembly or special event, email them verses to rweule@kuyper.nsw.edu.au Rob Weule Teacher, Year 4 & Primary Concert Band 294 Redbank Rd Kurrajong NSW 2758 T 02 4573 2999 E admin@kuyper.nsw.edu.au W www.kuyper.nsw.edu.au

Reminders Our School Cross Country raised $1,202.60 for Run 4 Bibles. Thank you everyone who participated and donated. Great effort! As we near the End of Term 2, we wish to remind families that half of the school fees for 2018 should be paid. Please contact Tina in the Office Monday Thursday if you need to discuss. If you are on SchoolEasyPay, relax! You will be up to date. Would anyone be able to lend the school a large enclosed trailer for the band tour to Orange Christian School 16 18 August? Choices include: BBQ meat lovers or cheese pizza minis Chicken and vegetable stir-fry (GF) or vegetable stir-fry (GF,V) On the day, students are encouraged to dress respectfully in outfits from other cultures and donate a gold coin. Thursday 7 June 2018 Kaila Block is in Year 2. The sport that Kaila participates in after school is Dancing. Kaila dances at Jem s Dance Studio for one hour on a Wednesday afternoon and does Tap, Jazz and Ballet. Kaila has great enthusiasm for dancing. She loves it because it's fun, you always learn new things and you can do the splits! She enjoys Tap Dancing the most because it s noisy and it s fun when they do the tap-step-heel. Last year, Kalia danced at the CDA (Creative Dancing Academy), where she danced in The Eisteddfod Troop competition and had an amazing dance concert at Panthers. At the end of last year, Kaila danced in a concert and received a trophy for doing an excellent job at tap-step-heel. Everyone at Kuyper can't wait to hear more about your fun and exciting dancing journey in the future! Written by Grace Prevost, Year 10 Congratulations to our State Cross Country representatives who ran last Friday at the CSSA carnival at Horsley Park. Absent from the picture: Liam Hodges Congratulations to Katie Sinfield, who came 5th in her event and will now compete at CIS.

Kuyper COLOURING and DESIGN COMPETITION For Students Prep to Year 12 Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. As people who are made in God s image, it is important that we consider the impact of our words on others. This applies whether those words are spoken or written, private or public, face-to-face or on social media. A good guide is to ask ourselves: If God were listening to me right now, would He be pleased with what I m saying? Of course, He is listening, all the time! Students will enter the competition as Infants (Prep 2), Primary (3 6) or Secondary (Year 7 12) Students may choose to design or colour or both Design submit by Friday 15 June 2018 On A4 paper Use black pen or Artline Use the words from Psalm 19:14 and create a design that includes the text and pictures Do not colour it in! The winning designs from each level will be photocopied and distributed to the classes in their level to colour in. Colour submit by Friday 6 July 2018 Colour in the winning design for your group. Use textas, coloured pencils, water colours or mixed media. Entries will be displayed around the school. Winning entries will be published in the newsletter.

Saturday 30 June, 5-9pm Join us for a fun night of food, fire, family and friendship as we light up the bonfire at the back of the top oval. Bring a pocket full of gold coins for hot food and drink, and a generous spirit for warm fellowship around the fire. All proceeds from the night will go towards subsidising the cost of our Concert & Performance Bands attendance at the Christian Education National (CEN) Music Festival in August. We still need volunteers to assist with the BBQ, and the sale of food and drink. If you can help please respond via this link http://www.volunteersignup.org/7rmb3 Japanese Student Visit 18 22 August 2018 It s that time of year and we are looking for Kuyper families to host our Japanese visitors. We have 13 students, aged between 14 & 16 years who will be visiting Kuyper from 18 22 August to improve their English skills and learn about Australia. We are looking for families to host 1 student each. You can specify whether you would prefer to host a boy or a girl. You would need to provide your student with a bed, all meals, and transport. They can share a room with your child/children. For hosting, your family will be paid $50 per night. The students will arrive on Saturday 18 August, around midday. They will take a pre-arranged tour with their group on Sunday and attend Kuyper Christian School from Monday Wednesday afternoon, departing 22 August, around 3pm. Kuyper hosts a group of students every year and it is an enjoyable time for all concerned. If you have any questions, or to apply to host, contact Es Stewart in the Office or email admin@kuyper.nsw.edu.au
