Dear Parents and Students, General Information We are so excited about our CIY Move trip this summer! If you are unfamiliar with this event, CIY Move is a 5-day, High School-only event designed to amplify Christ s call on students lives to become kingdom workers. CIY Move does this by providing worship times, small group times, free time, and an environment for Youth Groups to do various things together. It is a great time for students to worship together and discover ways that God can and will use them for His kingdom. Plus, it s just a fun trip! As you can see, the dates for this trip are July 30-August 4, 2018 thought we return early the morning of August 4. In this packet, I have done my best to include all the information you need to know, starting with the checklist below. Of course, I m sure questions or concerns will come up as the event gets close. I d love to hear those, so feel free to call me, email me, or set up a time to meet. That said, let s have a look at the checklist *Before the Event* 1. Register online with ECC by visiting the SIGN UP link on the High School page at www.eaglechristianchurch.com. 2. Fill out the medical release form attached to this packet (unless you have a form on-file) and submit it to Matt or the church office along with a $50 deposit by June 16. If you are reading this after June 16, you can still come! Just let Matt know ASAP (there will be a price increase of up to $75 depending on the date). 3. Fill out the CIY Medical Release form. The link is also on the High School page of the ECC website. 4. Submit final payment to Matt or the church office by July 30. You will be alerted to the balance you still owe a week before the trip. 5. Pack and get stoked! See the list of things to bring that is included in this packet. *Cost to Attend* 1. Please see the next page for our price breakdown. *On Monday, July 30* 1. Please arrive at Eagle Christian Church no later than 6 AM on Monday, July 30. We will make sure everyone is here, go over trip expectations, and head out on a charter bus. *On Saturday, August 4* 1. We will aim to arrive back at ECC around 6 AM on Saturday, August 4. We will drive the night of August 3 and return early August 4. We usually have students notify their parents 20-30 minutes before arriving. So, those are the basics. Have a look, check the FAQ section, and let me know if you have any questions! Thanks, Matt and Chris

Cost and Scholarships What to Do at Move

The Theme: Contrast *Day 1 - Contrast* Jesus is Real and Knowing Him Brings Joy Jesus was/is an actual person. John touched him, listened to him, saw him with his own two eyes. The Jesus that John is telling people about is for everyone from all walks of life and all stages of faith. No matter where you are in your faith journey, Jesus is applicable. John is sharing and proclaiming this REAL Jesus to his readers, because doing so will bring joy to John as well as his readers. As we get MOVE started this year, we want everyone who comes to know that the same Jesus John is writing about is still very much alive and very real just as he was then. No matter where a student falls on the faith spectrum, there is something for them this week. JESUS is for them this week, and He wants them to have joy. It seems like in verses 3 & 4 of chapter 1 John is saying, We want you to be in our group we want you to join us, have fellowship with us and if you have fellowship with us then you ll have fellowship with God and with His Son Jesus and that will bring ALL of us joy! We want to invite students in to the experience of MOVE, and to have fellowship with one another, as well as with God. There is much joy to be had this week together and with Jesus. Key Passages: 1 John 2:12-14, *Day 2 - Light/Dark* Jesus is Faithful and His Grace Obliterates Your Darkness - Step into the Light In so many ways, John isn t telling us anything new. Those reading John s letter would know the two great commandments: LOVE GOD & LOVE OTHERS. So how are your relationships? How is your relationship to God right now? What does your relationships with others reveal? As we begin the week, we need to be willing to be honest about where we are because that s the only way that real change can happen. Life in the dark is miserable. When we live in the dark, we do not have fellowship with others, and we do not have fellowship with God. There is no darkness at all in God. Claiming to be in the light doesn t make it so we have to be honest about the darkness we live in and step out of it. Yes, we ll be exposed for who we actually are but we will also find forgiveness and the reasons we had to staying in the darkness will be obliterated by the grace of the gospel of Jesus. When we confess our sins, Jesus is faithful to forgive. Key Passages: 1 John 2:7-11, 1 John 1:5-10 *Day 3 - Believe/Deny* God s Love For Us Is Not Affected by the Quality of Our Belief - It is Really the Other Way Around Belief is active, not a one-time occurrence. John implores his readers to remain to keep going, keep believing. All of this hinges on who we believe Jesus to be He is the one in whom we place our faith and trust. Eternal life is continual belief in Him. Life in this world is a continual battle between belief and denial and overcoming it can only be done by faith in Jesus. God s love for us is not affected by the quality of our belief it really is the other way around. Even as we pursue the light and battle against the darkness, we can sometimes get caught up into thinking that our belief is the thing we should hope in, rather than the one in whom we believe. God is calling us to believe in His Son, Jesus. When we believe in Him, we find that we can truly love one another. Our hearts often condemn us reminding us of our failures and ventures into the darkness. But God is greater than our failures and fears. Do you want a heart that can be at rest? Then let that heart believe in Jesus.

Key Passages: 2:21-25, 1 John 3:19-23 *Day 4 - Obey/Rebel Jesus Died For Rebels. Overcoming Rebellion Comes Through Faith in Jesus. Sometimes the answer itself is really easy. Living it out not so much. The reality is that if you believe in Jesus, you should obey Him and do what he tells you to do. Rebellion is a lack of belief. Overcoming our rebellion doesn t happen by doing better and trying harder it comes by belief in Jesus. Here s the reality: We re still going to mess it up we re still going to rebel. Even though we take steps, we still fall short and rebellion and disbelief creeps in. In those moments, we need to know what it means for Jesus to be our Advocate. Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for our sins the one perfectly obedient to the Father. Key Passages: 1 John 5:1-5, 1 John 5:13-15, 1 John 2:1-6 *Day 5 - Love/Fear* Perfect Love Casts Out Fear Those who know they are loved by God are fearless. They literally have NOTHING to fear God loves them and has sent Jesus to prove it. They live lives of fearless love that points others back to the Father. The calling is to love the way Jesus did by being willing to suffer, to sacrifice that others might be drawn closer to God. Loving like Jesus means you lay your life on the line it goes beyond words and talking. Loving like Jesus is active, self-sacrificing, truthful love. Key Passages: 1 John 4:7-21, 1 John 3:16-18

1. What is a typical day like at CIY Move? Frequently Asked Questions next:gen High School July 31-August 5, 2017 A normal day will include breakfast, CIY s Morning Show, a morning worship session, small group time, lunch, class electives, free time, dinner, an evening worship session, and youth group time. During free time, we will have some time to chill, but we will also take some time to explore the Corvallis/Portland area. We have some other things planned, but we don t want to give away too much! 2. I m a parent, and I am not sure that CIY Move is safe. What can you tell me about that? We understand. It seems sketchy to send a student on a trip in a bus to Oregon with a bunch of other High Schoolers and also with Matt. But, we take their safety, security, and experience very seriously. We will be taking adult leaders on the trip who will be assigned a group for the week. Those leaders (each leader usually has around 7 students) keep track of students and make sure things are happening in a safe way. Each leader has cell phone so they are connected. We also do things like roll call anytime we enter the bus or move somewhere together as a group. Rules and boundaries are clearly stated at the beginning of the trip and with each stop. Our housing arrangements at Oregon State University are in safe and secure dormitories. 3. Why does CIY cost between $325 and $400 this year? What is included in that? This cost includes CIY s price, which includes programming, meals, worship, and lodging. It also includes transportation to CIY Move, and we actually give some of this money back to students on the way to CIY and on the way back to Boise for meals. This helps make sure that no student goes hungry during the trip! Students are encouraged to bring extra money for t-shirts, music, extra food, or anything else they might want to buy. 4. I m not sure I can pay that much. Can I get any help or raise any money? We do have scholarships available for CIY Move. We do ask that each student pay as much as possible, so that we can bring as many students as possible. If your family needs assistance for CIY Move, please contact Matt or Chris or submit the scholarship request form found on the next:gen table by the Gym. 5. How do we travel to CIY Move? We want students to have a safe and comfortable trip to CIY; therefore, we don t take our old school bus. We will actually rent a charter bus that comes with a professional driver who will take care of us all week! 6. What about things like cell phones, ipods, or game consoles? Here s the deal. We live in a world where cell phones are pretty necessary. They help parents feel better and give students an important means of communication during the event. So, cell phones and ipods are allowed (let s face it it s a long drive and being able to zone out once in a while is good). Please leave handheld game consoles at home, though. They aren t really necessary. That said, while cell phones are allowed, students are discouraged from using them during worship, small groups, and youth group time. Take the time to enjoy the people around you you can cruise Facebook, play Minecraft, or text the fam some other time. If we see excessive phone

use, we will be asking you to take a break from it. In some scenarios where a student will not stay off of their phone, a leader may ask to have it for the duration of whatever part of the program we are doing. One final note: An unfortunate thing in today s world with cell phones is the easy access to sexually explicit images or pornography. We also recognize that bullying cyber and in-person is a real, serious thing. Any student caught sharing, viewing, or looking up sexually explicit images or pornography or bullying others will lose their cell phone privileges, and Matt will contact their parents regarding this. We ll handle it with grace and love but we take these things very seriously. In some cases, students may need to be sent home. 7. Why should I go to CIY Move? Simply put, CIY Move is a chance to experience God in a fresh, exciting way with other people. Yeah, you can do that at home or at youth group but often we don t. Sometimes, getting away from distractions can be one of the greatest things for our walks with God. In addition to this, CIY Move is just a fun trip; it s a blast to be together, explore the area, watch CIY s Morning Show, and possibly even visit the beach!
