cross point November 2018 Visit us online: Cross Point Baptizes Five Cross Point had reason to celebrate on September 30! Five individuals were baptized, including two children, one teen, and two adults. Baptism is a special time in the life of a believer as it symbolizes their new life in Christ and is a public profession of their faith in Him. If you have received Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life and have never been baptized, we invite you to consider it! It truly is a special experience! If you would like additional information about baptism or would like to sign up to be baptized, please contact the church office at: (304) 252-6684 or send us an email to: office@beckleycrosspoint.org. Adventure Alley Families Enjoy Some Autumn Fun Hay rides through Little Beaver State Park, face painting, roasting marshmallows, decorating pumpkins, yard games, grilled hotdogs and other yummy food, and lots of laughter was the scene in the Beaver area on October 13th. Our K-5 group and their families were invited to a Fall Family Mixer at the home of Greg and Rhonda Duckworth on this very chilly Saturday evening. It was a wonderful time for everyone to talk, eat, and get to know other families and leaders in the lives of Cross Point s Children s Ministry. The turnout for this event was great and the children s ministry would like to thank everyone who helped, in any way, to make this family night a success! We especially appreciate Jason and Shannon Bess who shopped and prepared all of our delicious food, Erin Duckworth and Caroline Ringwald for manning the paint stations, and to Pastor Vondie Cook for the tractor and his awesome driving skills on the hayride! Women s Book Club The Women s Book Club will meet on Tuesday, November 27 at 10:30 AM in the Conference Room. This will combine our November and December meetings. We will have a Christmas brunch that morning. Our book selection will be a fun one entitled, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Copies of the book will be available in the conference room if you missed the October gathering. Operation Warm Update During the month of October we partnered with the local Fire Fighter s Association and the Beckley Fire Department to help provide 500 coats to children in Raleigh County. Cross Point s goal was to help sponsor 100 of those coats. Our church family went above and beyond and sponsored 128 coats. Because of your generosity, 128 children in our community will have a warm coat this Winter! Thank you for helping to make an impact in our community! Christmas Child Shoeboxes For a number of years Cross Point participated in Operation Christmas Child to help pack and collect shoeboxes for children around the globe. The last few years participation from our church family decreased and we have had more participation in other outreach opportunities. This year Cross Point will not participate in the Christmas Shoebox outreach. Instead we are participating in Operation Warm to help provide coats to children in our community and in the Stockings for Veterans Outreach to help provide stockings to veterans in the VA Hospital. Those wishing to participate in the shoebox outreach can still do so. National Collection Week is November 12-19. Chick-fil-a in the Beckley Galleria will be a collection site and they also give a free sandwich coupon when you drop off a shoebox. First Baptist Church in uptown Beckley is also our regional collection center and you can drop off your shoeboxes there. Operation Christmas Stockings for Veterans Looking for a way to say Thank You to our heroes? Calfee Funeral Home and Cross Point Church are partnering together to show our appreciation to our veterans. You may pick up a stocking at the display in the lobby along with a list of suggested items. Fill the stocking and return it to the church by December 16, 2018. The stockings will then be delivered to the Beckley VAMC where they will be given to patients at the hospital as well as out-patient clinics. Our goal is to stuff 100 stockings for veterans in our community to help spread some Christmas cheer and show our appreciation. Will you do your part to help us reach the goal? No Service on Wednesday November 21 As is our custom, we will not have our midweek services and activities on Wednesday November 21, the day prior to Thanksgiving. This gives our families time to prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday. cross point November 2018 6
Daylight Saving Time On Sunday November 4, 2018 we get to fall back one hour. Don t forget to set your clocks back 1 hour before going to bed Saturday night. This is also a good reminder to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors. Touch LIFE Prayer Ministry My House will be known as a house of prayer, Jesus said in Matthew 21. Touch LIFE Prayer Ministry invites you to join them in praying for the lost. We all have family and friends that do not know the Lord Jesus Christ and the forgiveness of sin only He can offer. Who can you pray for? Touch LIFE Prayer Ministry meets the first Sunday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in Room 105 for a time of prayer for salvation for the lost. Live from Bethlehem A Children s Play On December 2, our Adventure Alley kids will be performing in their annual Christmas pageant! This year s play is Live From Bethlehem by Cindy Hansen and Bob Latchaw. This year s performance is about three firstcentury TV reporters who are chasing a big story on the census. However, while reporting on this, they stumble upon the story of a lifetime, the birth of the Messiah! See their exclusive interviews with Mary and Joseph, the shepherds and from eyewitnesses present at the manger. Plan to attend and invite friends! You will be encouraging our Cross Point kids as they creatively share the story of Jesus birth and will be sure to enjoy participating as you are invited to sing along to traditional Christmas carols between acts. Prayer Chain Prayer is a powerful tool we have as Christians. As a church family we can help lift each other up in prayer. One way we do this at Cross Point is through our Prayer Chain. The prayer chain is a group of people who have opted in to receive prayer requests. When an urgent prayer request is received, it is sent to this group using our church notification system. Each member then receives the request so they can begin praying for the need. Individuals who would like to be added to the prayer chain should contact Justin Davis in the church office at (304) 252-6684. To submit a prayer request, follow this procedure: Monday-Thursday 9:00a.m. 3:00p.m.: Call the church office at: (304) 252-6684. All other times, call Justin Davis at (304) 575-2363. If no answer, leave a message and Justin will put it on the prayer chain as soon as possible. Rent A Youth Is there a job on your to do list that you just don t have time or you don t want to do? Why not rent one of our youth to help with your chores? Money raised from Rent A Youth helps our youth attend various youth activities. If you are interested in renting one or more of our youth, see Pastor Rob. Don t Throw Away Those Cans! The youth ministry has been collecting aluminum cans to be recycled to raise money to support youth activities. You can drop off your aluminum cans at the church during office hours (Monday Thursday 9AM-3PM). There is a collection can near the gym. Help support our youth and save our environment!
