ORDER OF WORSHIP May 26, 2013 9:00 am Welcome to First Worship! We extend a welcome as broad as the outstretched arms of God, who calls us to be here together to rejoice in God s glorious presence. Welcome to children of all ages to all the children of God, each one of us. If you are an old friend or here for the first time, we welcome you. Our worship is an intergenerational experience and we want children to feel fully included. We remember that worship offers us all a special place to be with God. In this space we talk a little more softly and walk a little more quietly. We are listening for God. PRELUDE RINGING IN THE HOUR Spirit of God

Little Dresses for Africa and other places where little girls need HOPE and LOVE In January 2013 the Wednesday morning knitting and sewing group decided to rise to the challenge of making 100 pillow case dresses for the little girls in Africa. We are grateful to the Village Church Women and the Friends of Fumbelo for their support. There were generous donations of pillowcases, remnants, elastic, trim and bias binding - all much appreciated. Special thanks to the loyal women who sewed diligently all winter until we surpassed our goal and completed 135 dresses. Great teamwork! Please join us in the Common to view samples of our completed project. It s Family Promise Hosting Time Again! Can you imagine not having a place to call home, trying to take care of children, maintain some sort of lifestyle, and trying to find a job to get all these things? This is a day in the life of the people we host in Family Promise. You can make a small difference in their lives by volunteering for a couple of hours in June. June 2 through 9 our classrooms will once again be transformed into bedrooms; which we try to make as comfortable as possible for our guest families. You can help by cooking, serving, doing laundry or preparing the rooms. Thank you for your past efforts in this program and we look forward to working with you in June. For more information, call Ruth Breden: 781-235- 0193 (ruthbreden@aol.com) or Margaret Taylor: 781-237-1708 taylorcpa@hotmail.com. UCC Scarf Project In a colorful, symbolic move to take a stand against bullying and violence, the UCC is collecting rainbow-colored scarves, knitted, woven or crocheted by people who want to join in and support the cause. The UCC is looking to collect 3,000 scarves in time for General Synod 2013, beginning June 28 in California. Each scarf will be given to an attendee who will pledge to take action against bullying and other types of violence. Scarves are being collected in a basket on the table in the church foyer. The scarves must be approximately 6"x60" in rainbow colors, finished and handed in by June 14. For more information, call Ruth Breden 781-235-0193, or Bobbie Hayes 781-235-1059 (Knitting Group of Village Churchwomen). 7th & 8th Grade Youth Group No Meeting Tonight. High School Youth Group No Meeting Tonight. For information about youth programs, contact Pam Emslie at 781-235-1988 x15 or pam@wellesleyvillagechurch.org.

Memorial Day Monday, May 27 The Church Office will be closed. BULLETIN NOTES All are invited to join the Prayer Walking Group! We meet every Friday morning at 9 am in front of the College Club Building on the Wellesley College Campus. We begin by gathering to share prayers of joy and concern and then we pair up to walk around beautiful Lake Waban. This walk takes about an hour. There is also always an option to go for a slower, shorter walk on the paved sidewalks around the campus. If you have questions or would like more information please contact Diane Anderson at diane@wellesleyvillagechurch.org. Village Church Moms' Dinner Tuesday, May 28, 7 pm We will have our next dinner at the home of Kim Reohr. This casual, come when you can group, welcomes moms of all ages for monthly get-togethers away from the family, usually for a dinner in someone's home or a restaurant, or perhaps for a service opportunity. It's a great way to meet new friends and other Moms at our church. If you are not already on our email distribution list or if you are interested in attending the dinner on the 28th, please email Lyanne Cochi at m-lcochi@comcast.net. We hope you can join us! Cereal Sunday June 2 Just one box of cereal per Village Church family per month and we ll fill the Wellesley Food Pantry cereal shelves for a year! Food may be dropped off in the designated box in the Cloister and in the basket at the Village Common entrance. Fourth Grade Bibles for Grownups Wednesdays, June 5, 12, and 19, 7 8:30 pm Where does the Bible come from? Who wrote it? Where and when did all those stories take place? What's the difference between the Old and New Testaments? When were the gospels written, and why there are four of them? Why do we still read this ancient book, and how do we figure out what it means? If Sunday School feels like a long time ago, or if you've always wondered what we teach our kids about the Bible, or if you have some burning questions of your own, or if you've never thought much about it, you are warmly invited to join this three-session introduction to our scriptures. No background is required; bring your Bible if you have one. Please contact Jocelyn Gardner Spencer to sign up (jocelyn@wellesleyvillagechurch.org or 781-235-1988 x25). Usher Teams for September Please consider being an usher, either regular or substitute, starting September 2013. Each Team ushers once every 6 weeks. Substitute ushers fill in when regular usher is unable to do so on a given Sunday. If you enjoy being with people and want to do some wonderful work, join a Team. The duties are not strenuous and the existing team members guide you easily through the responsibilities. We welcome your participation. If you have an interest, please call Roger Regnier to discuss at (781) 235-7205 or email at rogerregnier541@msn.com. Look forward to hearing from you soon.
