We are looking for men or women who want to serve their parish by being part of the consultative group of council members who help shape the direction in which our parish will move forward. If you know someone who you think would be skilled at this, or if you yourself would like to serve, please submit the name in the collection basket, mail it, or drop it at the rectory office. The Pastoral Council performs an important role in the pastoral care of our parish. Thank you for responding to the call. GOSPEL MEDITATION "Now what?" It's a difficult thing to hear, isn't it? The train comes late, a child unexpectedly cries, and the latest public policy debate flares up in the news. Life throws us curveballs, and we have no choice but to adapt. Jesus and the Apostles find themselves in that exact situation in today's Gospel. The Apostles have returned from their two-by-two missionary journey. As Jesus hears all of their stories, he knows they need time to recover and refresh. "Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." Their wilderness retreat is short-lived, however, as eager crowds discover their location. Jesus is well aware of the needs of his disciples. Still, as he looks out at the crowd, "His heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd." The rest break is over. "He began to teach them many things." For those of us who have experienced a taste of muchneeded relaxation only to have it taken away abruptly, perhaps we surmise what the Apostles might have been feeling in that moment. But Jesus isn't being inconsiderate of the Apostles needs. He offers them -- and us -- a lived lesson. St. John Paul II wrote, "The whole of Christ's life was a continual teaching: his silences, his miracles, his gestures, his prayer, his love for people, his special affection for the little and the poor, his acceptance of the total sacrifice on the Cross for the redemption of the world" (On Catechesis in Our Time, 9). In Jesus' choice to teach, we see all of these things: sacrificial love, concern for the marginalized, and priority of people's needs over personal preference. These aren't abstract ideals. They're lived realities as we strive to live and love like Jesus. When a new obstacle confronts you in your life, how do you respond?

Summer High School Mission Trip Mexico Maine July 22-28 Our teens are leaving today to Mexico Maine to help the less fortunate with building projects. This is a great opportunity for the teens to put their faith in action with corporal works of mercy. It also an opportunity to grow in their faith as prayer and faith are important aspects of this mission trip. 2, I encourage you to spend some time and pray for the mission they have taken on. and the work they are doing and their safe return. We are one community gathered in the name of God, one parish family consisting of so many different parts. Every one of us, from teenagers to the elderly, make up this body of Christ and it is up to all of us to be Jesus to the world! Volunteers Still Needed! I am very grateful to those who have stepped up and helped out in so many ways. Without the funds to hire a maintenance person, it is not possible for me to keep up with everything that needs to be done. Here are a few areas where I need your help on a regular basis: -Someone to vacuum MBS church carpet once a week. -Someone to vacuum OLGC church carpet once a week. -Someone to clean the bathrooms in the MBS hall before and after an event and weekly during the religious education season. -Several people to adopt a garden space at the churches to keep on top of the weeding and watering. -Someone to vacuum the office about once a week. We are a volunteer based parish Please consider helping if you are not yet part of the team of volunteers. 2018-2019 Faith Formation Registration has begun! We are looking for more religious education teachers. If you are a practicing Catholic, who attends mass each week, and would like to share your faith with our youth, and be a positive role model and catechist, please prayerfully consider being a religious education teacher / catechist. We will supply the materials needed. Adopt a Garden I m looking for an individual or family to adopt each one of the small gardens around the Churches to take care of them. Please contact the office if you would like to help make a difference- plant/weed/water for the Lord! Depending on the number of registrations and teacher availability, we would like to expand our Sun- Please Pray for Our Parish! That many people will return to the practice of the faith Do you know someone who is homebound and would like Holy Communion brought to them? Please let us know by calling the office. 617-479-9200 At Our Lady of Good Counsel Church: Mondays & Wednesdays 8-9 am M.B.S. on Tuesdays & Thursdays 8-9 am followed by the Holy Mass at 9am Also, Wednesday evenings 7-8 pm with confessions available.
