Be Filled With the Holy Ghost! April 6, 2016 Hymns 88, 119, 461 The Bible Acts 10:38 1st God (to oppressed), 38 for God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed for God was with him. Matt. 4:23, 24 2nd and And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. John 14:9 (to saith), 12 1st He, 16 I, 17 (to 1st ;), 25, 26 Jesus saith He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Matt. 28:16 (to the), 16 disciples, 18-20 (to :) Then the disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: Acts 14:8-10, 27 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother s womb, who never had walked: The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles. I Cor. 2:9 Eye, 10, 13 Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words
which man s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. Acts 2:1, 2, 4-7 (to 2nd,), 8 how, 42, 43 (to 1st And), 43 many AND when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? And they continued stedfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. Rom. 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy SH 559:10-12, 14-16 The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, as when a lion roareth. It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear. Then is the power of Truth demonstrated, made manifest in the destruction of error. SH 588:7 (only, to ;) HOLY GHOST. Divine Science; SH 558:10-16, 17 To mortal sense Science seems at first obscure, abstract, and dark; but a bright promise crowns its brow. When understood, it is Truth s prism and praise. When you look it fairly in the face, you can heal by its means, and it has for you a light above the sun, for God is the light thereof. It brings the baptism of the Holy Ghost, whose flames of Truth were prophetically described by John the Baptist as consuming error. SH 497:3 As, 5 We As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life. We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God s image and likeness. SH 332:19 Jesus Jesus demonstrated Christ; he proved that Christ is the divine idea of God the Holy Ghost, or Comforter, revealing the divine Principle, Love, and leading into all truth.
SH viii:12-15 The question, What is Truth, is answered by demonstration, by healing both disease and sin; and this demonstration shows that Christian healing confers the most health and makes the best men. SH 42:28-31 Jesus had taught his disciples the Science of this proof. He was here to enable them to test his still uncomprehended saying, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also. SH 43:11-12 Jesus last proof was the highest, the most convincing, the most profitable to his students. SH 271:11-16 In Latin the word rendered disciple signifies student; and the word indicates that the power of healing was not a supernatural gift to those learners, but the result of their cultivated spiritual understanding of the divine Science, which their Master demonstrated by healing the sick and sinning. SH 43:3 The magnitude of Jesus work, his material disappearance before their eyes and his reappearance, all enabled the disciples to understand what Jesus had said. Heretofore they had only believed; now they understood. The advent of this understanding is what is meant by the descent of the Holy Ghost, that influx of divine Science which so illuminated the Pentecostal Day and is now repeating its ancient history. SH 146:23 Divine Science derives its sanction from the Bible, and the divine origin of Science is demonstrated through the holy influence of Truth in healing sickness and sin. This healing power of Truth must have been far anterior to the period in which Jesus lived. It is as ancient as the Ancient of days. It lives through all Life, and extends throughout all space. SH 473:8-10 God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power. SH 285:27-31 As mortals reach, through knowledge of Christian Science, a higher sense, they will seek to learn, not from matter, but from the divine Principle, God, how to demonstrate the Christ, Truth, as the healing and saving power. SH 110:25 Jesus demonstrated the power of Christian Science to heal mortal minds and bodies. But this power was lost sight of, and must again be spiritually discerned, taught, and demonstrated according to Christ s command, with signs following. Its Science must be apprehended by as many as believe on Christ and spiritually understand Truth. SH 232:9-13 Scripture informs us that with God all things are possible, all good is possible to Spirit; but our prevalent theories practically deny this, and make healing possible only through matter. These theories must be untrue, for the Scripture is true.
SH 331:13-14, 16, 22 The Scriptures also declare that God is Spirit. Everything in God s universe expresses Him. He fills all space, and it is impossible to conceive of such omnipresence and individuality except as infinite Spirit or Mind. Hence all is Spirit and spiritual. SH 223:8-9 If Spirit is all and is everywhere, what and where is matter? SH 223:7 (only) Matter does not express Spirit. SH 72:18-19 Spirit is not made manifest through matter, the antipode of Spirit. SH 78:21 (only), 28 Spirit is not materially tangible. Spirit blesses man, but man cannot tell whence it cometh. By it the sick are healed, the sorrowing are comforted, and the sinning are reformed. These are the effects of one universal God, the invisible good dwelling in eternal Science. SH 504:29-31 Material sense is nothing but a supposition of the absence of Spirit. SH 492:3-6 For right reasoning there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence. In reality there is no other existence, since Life cannot be united to its unlikeness, mortality. SH 445:15-18 You render the divine law of healing obscure and void, when you weigh the human in the scale with the divine, or limit in any direction of thought the omnipresence and omnipotence of God. SH 223:2 Paul said, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Sooner or later we shall learn that the fetters of man s finite capacity are forged by the illusion that he lives in body instead of in Soul, in matter instead of in Spirit. SH 335:7-13 Spirit Spirit, God, has created all in and of Himself. Spirit never created matter. There is nothing in Spirit out of which matter could be made, for, as the Bible declares, without the Logos, the Æon or Word of God, was not anything made that was made. Spirit is the only substance, the invisible and indivisible infinite God. SH 287:13 God being everywhere and all-inclusive, how can He be absent or suggest the absence of omnipresence and omnipotence? How can there be more than all? SH 465:16-4 Question. Is there more than one God or Principle?
Answer. There is not. Principle and its idea is one, and this one is God, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Being, and His reflection is man and the universe. Omni is adopted from the Latin adjective signifying all. Hence God combines all-power or potency, all-science or true knowledge, all-presence. SH 274:25-26, 30 The conventional firm, called matter and mind, God never formed. This suppositional partnership is already obsolete, for matter, examined in the light of divine metaphysics, disappears. SH 475:7-11 The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness. The likeness of Spirit cannot be so unlike Spirit. SH 29:30-32 Man as the offspring of God, as the idea of Spirit, is the immortal evidence that Spirit is harmonious and man eternal. SH 170:28-31 The description of man as purely physical, or as both material and spiritual, but in either case dependent upon his physical organization, is the Pandora box, from which all ills have gone forth, especially despair. SH 425:14-20 (to.), 21-26 If the body is diseased, this is but one of the beliefs of mortal mind. Mortal man will be less mortal, when he learns that matter never sustained existence and can never destroy God, who is man s Life. When this is understood, mankind will be more spiritual and know that there is nothing to consume, since Spirit, God, is All-in-all. God is more to a man than his belief, and the less we acknowledge matter or its laws, the more immortality we possess. Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered. Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew. SH 172:10 Spirit can form no real link in this supposed chain of material being. But divine Science reveals the eternal chain of existence as uninterrupted and wholly spiritual; yet this can be realized only as the false sense of being disappears. SH 510:2 How much more should we seek to apprehend the spiritual ideas of God, than to dwell on the objects of sense! To discern the rhythm of Spirit and to be holy, thought must be purely spiritual. SH 295:5-8 God creates and governs the universe, including man. The universe is filled with spiritual ideas, which He evolves, and they are obedient to the Mind that makes them. SH 516:4-8 The substance, Life, intelligence, Truth, and Love, which constitute Deity, are reflected by His creation; and when we subordinate the false testimony of the corporeal senses to the facts of Science, we shall see this true likeness and reflection everywhere.
SH 496:15-19 Hold perpetually this thought, that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being. SH 358:9-13, 15 Christian Science, understood, coincides with the Scriptures, and sustains logically and demonstratively every point it presents. Otherwise it would not be Science, and could not present its proofs. It presents the calm and clear verdict of Truth against error, uttered and illustrated by the prophets, by Jesus, by his apostles, as is recorded throughout the Scriptures. SH vii:27-8 Since the author s discovery of the might of Truth in the treatment of disease as well as of sin, her system has been fully tested and has not been found wanting; but to reach the heights of Christian Science, man must live in obedience to its divine Principle. To develop the full might of this Science, the discords of corporeal sense must yield to the harmony of spiritual sense, even as the science of music corrects false tones and gives sweet concord to sound. SH vii:1-2 To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings. SH 570:23-24 Those ready for the blessing you impart will give thanks.
