In-depth Yoga Course
In-depth Yoga Course
I have felt enriched by the experience. I have always been interested in the philosophy behind yoga and I thought this was a good way to do it delve deeper with like-minded people. Jen M When the opportunity arose to join the In-depth Yoga Course with Simon I jumped at the chance. The course has inspired me to develop a more comprehensive and structured home practice. Sue P I have gained a deeper awareness of the abilities and needs of so many different body types and how the Iyengar method can offer something to everyone at all stages of life. Cam
In-depth Yoga Course with Simon Joannou Some of us start yoga because we are looking for an alternative to other forms of exercise, some of us want to better manage the stresses of daily life, and some of us have an injury or illness to deal with and start up yoga in the hope of working towards recovery. If you practice yoga regularly, you ll know the great benefits it can bring to your life. If you are looking to deepen your practice and gain knowledge about the philosophy of Iyengar Yoga the In-depth Yoga Course offers a structured program focussing on the practical and philosophical aspects of yoga. Taking place over eight weekends throughout the year, the In-depth Yoga Course is a great opportunity to challenge yourself, enrich your practice, and take a step further in your personal journey of self-discovery.
About the Course The In-depth Yoga Course takes place over eight weekends throughout the year. This one-year course focuses upon developing a deep understanding of the practice of asana and pranayama, which is strongly underpinned by an exploration of yoga philosophy throughout each weekend.
The In-depth Yoga Course combines practical sessions, self-reflection and group discussions with suggested reading and assignments in order to foster a more meaningful understanding of yoga practice and principles. Emphasis is also placed on experiencing and taking on the role of the yoga practitioner.
Times 5.30-7.30pm Friday The Friday night session is typically a practice-based session. Some short discussions generally take place however the focus is on practicing a prescribed sequence for that session. 5.30-7.30pm Saturday In the Saturday session we take an in-depth look at the sequence practiced on the Friday. Students are used to demonstrate certain poses and there is plenty of group discussion and time for questions. We also begin some theory work and group presentations in this time, based on set readings or home practice.
7.30-9.30am Sunday The early morning Sunday practice is a LED backbend practice at the studio. 1.00-4pm Sunday The Sunday afternoon session is mostly theory based. During this time we discuss asanas and yoga philosophy based on practice and readings.
Course content Each weekend has a structured focus whether it s standing poses, backbends, pranayama or yoga for men s and women s health. Teacher Training & the In-depth Yoga Course What s the link? Before we become teachers of yoga we need to become practitioners. We need to understand the subject of yoga from a physical, emotional, and philosophical perspective. The In-depth Yoga Course forms the foundation of development for students wanting to embark on Teacher Training. Students wishing to go on to train as an Iyengar Yoga Teacher can continue their professional development and training with Simon, working towards accreditation with the Iyengar Association of Australia which is recognised as an international certification. Many people who undertake the In-depth Yoga Course do not wish to follow it with Teacher Training. They choose to do the Course for the development of their own personal practice.
Testimonials Jen M Works full time I came to the course after attending classes for many years. I like that the home practice for homework has allowed me to start to practice at home, something I ve always struggled with. I like being able to pull out the mat anytime, now I can do that. It is challenging to do something different. I feel that I am challenged each session doing something that is beyond my comfort zone. Everyone in the group is likeminded regarding yoga of course, but it is so great to meet a group of various ages and walks of life who are all interesting and delightful in their own way. Sue P long-term MYC student I have had an interest in yoga for many year (more than I d like to admit!) I had previously done yoga mainly in the Ashtanga style and taught for years in corporate and gym environments. Since starting Iyengar my interest has deepened and I wanted to learn more about it. One of the most rewarding aspects of the course has been the development of a deeper understanding and insight into the practice and philosophy of Iyengar yoga. I have also gained an understanding of how important pranayama is in the practice of yoga.
Cam Yoga teacher I teach yoga from other traditions, though I was drawn to the depth of study of the Iyengar method. I came to the course looking to deepen my understanding of the principles and benefits behinds the physical practice of asanas and learn modifications to suit all body types or people with injuries or other limitations. New layers of understanding are continually placed on top of the last each weekend of the course and a more complete picture of key aspects is developed. For me, this has allowed me to see where I can or should take my practice on any given day, as well as how alternate series might be more beneficial at times. I ve noticed that since starting the course I am far more present in my practice these days. In-depth Yoga Course Whether you are considering becoming a yoga teacher or simply hoping to enhance your own personal practice, In-Depth Yoga Course provides the ideal opportunity to take the next step in your yoga journey.
