In his message for this year s celebration on October 21, Pope Francis explains that life is a mission. Each one of us is called to reflect on this fact: I am a mission on this Earth; that is the reason why I am here in this world (Evangelii Gaudium 273). Focusing on young people, he notes: In speaking to you, I also address all Christians who live out in the Church the adventure of their life as children of God. I invite all of us in this diocese to see World Mission Sunday as a special moment to live out the mission we share as God s children, the mission to bring the Gospel to the whole world. I encourage you to be a voice for mission through your prayers and through support of the priests, religious and lay pastoral leaders who work tirelessly, day in and day out, proclaiming the Gospel, building the Church, and serving the poor in more than 1,100 mission dioceses in Asia and Africa, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe. The prayers and material aid generously given to the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith on World Mission Sunday continue to support the preaching of the Gospel to every nation. Our Diocese has a special concern for the missions as currently we sponsor five mission trips a year: two University mission trips to Bolivia and the Philippines and three medical and construction trips to Bolivia, the Philippines and to the Navajo Nation. We are also exploring new mission sites which we hope to begin in 2019. A portion of this important collection also supports our mission efforts. Mission revitalizes faith, Pope Francis reminds us, quoting Saint Pope John Paul II in Redemptoris Missio (#2). May you know of my personal gratitude for your generous response on this unique day for the entire Church, and throughout the year, as you are able. Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon, Bishop of Joliet REBATE AMOUNT: none yet. Find us (and like us!) on Facebook. www.facebook.com Type Christ the Servant Catholic Church into the search bar.

Support legislation that will work toward eliminating domestic violence or support domestic violence survivors: This could include legislation on gun control, funding for victim assistance services, or protection for people evicted from their homes due to domestic violence or stalking-related incidents. 2. Call your representatives: Make sure your local and state representatives know where you stand on legislature and encourage them to support your cause. 3. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper: This can be especially effective during October, which is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month or April, which is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Daily, she ministered to those most would consider the poorest in the world. So when she spoke to Harvard graduates in 1982, she did speak of poverty, but not a far away place. She called abortion one of the greatest poverties. A nation, people, family that allows abortion, that accepts that, they are the poorest of the poor. And in 1979, upon receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, she said: These nations are afraid of the little ones the unborn and children must die because they don t want to feed and to educate one more child. In 1994, at the National Prayer Breakfast, attended by congressional leaders and President and Mrs. Clinton, Mother Teresa made a direct plea to the American people: I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child. And if we as a nation accept killing our own children, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? And in a 2014 address, Pope Francis stated: It is therefore necessary to express the strongest possible opposition to every direct attack on life, and the unborn in the mother s womb is the example of innocence par excellence. ~by Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, Columbia Magazine Submitted by Dave A Sacramental Information RITES OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Adults interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith, the celebration of Baptism, Eucharist and/or Confirmation are invited to contact the parish office.
