The Parable of the Pearl (also called the Pearl of Great Price) and the Parable of the Hidden Treasure both illustrate the great value of the Kingdom of Heaven. The phrase "Pearl of Great Price" has also been interpreted more widely to apply to things of great value in a number of religious contexts. The pearl itself is a beautiful, single entity, formed through suffering in the heart of the oyster and, like the Church, will be put on display in a coming day. Unlike precious stones which must be cut and polished to reveal their clarity and beauty, the pearl is perfect as it comes from the oyster. In this same way, the Kingdom of God is like the Pearl of Great Price.

PAGE 2 FROM THE PASTOR My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope that your summer is going well and that you are enjoying this beautiful time of the year. Things are getting back to normal around the parish following the Festival. Thank you once again to everyone who supported this important event in our parish and community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and the families of the downed airliner in the Ukraine. Let us pray for an end to violence in that part of the world, the Middle East, and throughout our troubled world. It was wonderful having Abbé Weaver home and sharing his thoughts at Mass. Thank you for your kind generosity in assisting him with his studies for the Holy Priesthood. We are very proud of him and Brother Daniel. I also want to thank Abbé Weaver for the beautiful Altar Cloths that he made for the parish. We will enjoy them once again this weekend and then will use them for special feasts. I am making a special request to any sewers in the parish: I am in need of a few parishioners who love to sew and who would be willing to offer their time and talent for a special project for the parish. Please call me at 216.382.7601 if you are able to help. SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE... Please remember your parish when you are traveling and bring your envelopes to church either before you leave or when you return. Our expenses continue throughout the year. Unfortunately, as you know in your own families, bills do not take a vacation. Thank you for your kind consideration. Collection figures were not available at the time the bulletin was submitted to the publisher. They will be included with next week s amounts. Thank you for supporting your parish. Father Ireland from the voices of the children... and submitted by children who used their offering envelopes last weekend... (Reproduced as the children wrote them.) I played board games with my sister even though I wanted to play on the computer. I was kind to the younger kids I met this week. Thank you, children, for sharing these. Father Ireland Next Saturday is the First Saturday of the Month As is our practice there will be a morning Mass at 8 o clock (in the Extraordinary form) followed by the Rosary and Devotions. Please plan to attend. May God s blessings be yours this week. Father Ireland AN INVITATION TO SERVE... Are you naturally caring? Compassionate? A giving person? Were you blessed with parents or other role models in life from whom you learned that the joy of living is gained through giving? If you answered yes to either of these questions, look for an Invitation to Serve from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in September. If you would like more information now, call 216.696.6525, ext. 3150, or you may reach the Society at their e-mail address: info@svdpcle.org. ENTHRONEMENT OF THE SACRED HEART... If your family would like an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus enthroned in your home, please call Father Ireland at the Parish Office (216.382.7601) to arrange for him to come to your home and lead this beautiful devotion. Let us place ourselves under the watchful eye of Our Blessed Mother, who invites us to Love with the Heart of Jesus.
