A Word from the Director of Missions In our Potomac Baptist Association Semi-Annual Meeting held at Bayside Baptist Church on April 24th, a motion was proposed by our PBA Trustees and adopted by the voting body to sell the house and supporting buildings that are deeded to the Potomac Baptist Association located at 8468 Old Leonardtown Road, Hughesville, MD 20637. Please pray for this process as our trustees carry out actions to facilitate this. By selling our facility in Hughesville, we believe we will be able to reduce operational costs of our office and in turn maximize the use of the funds given by the churches in order to have greater effectiveness in networking together on mission missions and evangelism, church planting, and church support. A good example of this can be seen as you read Pastor Steve Fehrman s Missions Priority Team Report in this PBA On Mission Update. Through the cooperative gifts from our PBA Churches we have helped provide 30 mission trip scholarships to date for folks in our churches. However, we have tapped out our available funds for additional requests that we may receive for this year. By selling the building, our potential funds for networking on mission will be much greater. We will be able to increase our mission trip scholarships significantly. This is but one example of how we can maximize our cooperative giving in the PBA. I would like to express a special word of thanks to Pastor Vic Simpson, of Emmanuel Church for leading our monthly PBA Minister s Meetings throughout this year. Vic has led our Pastor s with excellence each month with interesting and relevant topics of discussion that have been encouraging and helpful for our Pastors. Each month we have travelled to various local churches throughout the Southern Maryland region and our meetings have been well attended. Thank you Pastor Vic and thank you Pastors for your involvement! Congratulations to Hughesville Baptist Church in the recent calling of a new Senior Pastor, Dr. J. Derek Yelton. Pastor Derek and his wife Joy are coming from Beechmont Baptist Church in Louisville, KY where he has served as Senior Pastor for the past 10 years. Originally from South Carolina, Derek has more than 22 years of Pastoral experience and holds a Master of Divinity degree, Doctor of Ministry Degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Joy currently works as counselor and plans to continue working in that field in Maryland. They intend to begin their ministry at HBC around the first weekend of August.

How God is at Work in PBA Church Planting by Pastor Chris Snider, PBA Church Planting Team Leader God is moving the hearts of his people in Southern Maryland toward church planting. There has been an explosion of gospel-fueled effort to see the gospel go forth through planting healthy local churches. The PBA Church Planting Team has been working hard to serve the churches of our association by assisting your efforts to plant reproducing local churches. Over the past several months, we have met with several churches and pastors who desire to plant new churches. Many of these pastors are coming from our very own PBA churches. One of these is Charlie Brown, Associate Pastor at Dunkirk Baptist Church. Charlie believes God is calling him and his wife to plant a church in downtown Baltimore. We are excited to help him think through this new work and have partnered to pray for them as they make this transition. We have also begun the credentialing process with three churches: West Charles Community Church in Nanjemoy, LaPlata Baptist Church in La Plata, and Redeeming Grace Baptist Church in Callaway. We plan to recommend their affiliation in our next PBA Team Council meeting, and once the credentialing process is complete, we plan to present them at the Annual Meeting in October. In addition to the work in Southern Maryland, members from FBC St. Charles and Leonardtown Baptist Church helped to serve alongside our church plant in Baltimore, Jesus our Redeemer. The members helped paint a local elementary school as well as helped with community outreach during Crossover. Friends, what we do would not be possible without the regular teaching of God s Word through your churches. God uses gospel preaching to stir the hearts of his people to see the lost saved. We believe that this fresh excitement toward church planting is because pastors and local churches have been faithful to preach and apply the gospel. We are merely partners with you in the work that God has given each of your local churches. Therefore, if you have a desire to see the gospel continue to penetrate the lostness of Southern Maryland and are unsure of where to start, please reach out to our team. We exist to assist you to be faithful witnesses of the gospel in your community, your county, and across North America. We pray that God would be glorified through your work in planting healthy local churches. Respectfully Submitted, Pastor Chris Snider
How the Potomac Baptist Association of Churches are Networking Together on Mission by Pastor Steve Fehrman, Missions Priority Team Leader The PBA Missions Priority Team has been active these past few months. The Missions Team approved multiple scholarships, (approximately 30 at $300 each) for short-term volunteers from several PBA churches. The churches of the PBA are reaching people in various nations. I know of teams going to Burkina Faso (West Africa), Ghana (Africa), India, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Thailand, and Mexico. Leonardtown Baptist church recently ministered in Mexico. Brother Keith joined the team and was able gain firsthand knowledge of that work. In addition, Keith and Pastor Adam from Leonardtown conducted conversations with the IMB missionary serving in Mexico, which also help with the Mexico mission strategy. This week, a group from Southern Calvert Baptist and Dunkirk are going to minister in Guatemala with the Hope of Life ministry. Pastor Steve Fehrman is soliciting interest from other PBA church members on their interest in going to Guatemala to build a house for a poor family on the Hope of Life compound. Several other churches have already built homes. For approximately $9,000, Hope of Life will gather the materials and have them on sight upon team arrival. The construction team can arrive on Saturday and by the next Saturday a family can move into their new home. If you or your church is interested in joining in this ministry, contact Pastor Steve Fehrman @ 410-326-6533. Finally, we are seeking ways to inform and network mission work between our PBA churches. If you have a mission project or seek volunteers to join your church in a mission project, please contact Brother Keith or Pastor Steve. Continue to pray for your PBA as we seek to network together on mission. Sincerely, Pastor Steve
