Woodbine United Methodist Church November Newsletter From the Desk of Pastor Jan.. Did you know God created humanity for gratitude. We were created to appreciate God and to honor Him by giving our thanks and praise. Are we living up to His purpose in our thankfulness. Or are we living each day in thanklessness? If that is the case, then shame on us. Romans 1:21 served as a reminder of their lack of gratitude. although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. We may ask the question, Is that me, Lord? Surely I am not guilty by failing to give God praise and thanksgiving. Even though ingratitude began in the Garden with Adam and Eve, we have by choice continued to follow in their footsteps. And we not only fail to be thankful like we ought, but we also fail to get the balance right between physical and spiritual. We must remember to give thanks for the physical (materialism) but more importantly for the eternal (that which remains forever.) In our sin, we fail to get the proportions right. But we are redeemed by Thanksgiving. This special day reminds us to pause and reflect on all we have to be thankful for. As Christians we are thankful for all God s gifts, especially his eternal gifts, and especially the surpassing value of knowing his Son where the Spirit became physical. Thank God for the incarnation of his Son who came so that we may know how to live as thankful people..more than just one day a year. Jesus gave final instructions to his disciples, do this in remembrance of me. May we do all things by remembering our perfect Redeemer. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families. Yum, Yum! From the Children & Youth Director Youthdir@woodbineumc.com Maryann Becker 912-409-0586 The holidays are just around the corner and as usual it is a busy time of year for us all! There are several events, activities and a mission project planned involving the children within the next two months. Here are a few, starting with this month: Instead of Samaritans Purse this year, we will be supporting the Department of Family & Children s Services; by helping the less fortunate children right here in Camden County. I will be provided a list of children that will contain info such as gender, age, and a Christmas wish list. The Wednesday night children s group will then make angels with the information on them and hang on a tree. The Angel Tree will be placed in the Narthex around mid November, here is where you, the congregation come in at. We ask that you please open up your hearts and help a child to have a brighter Christmas by adopting an angel from the tree and purchasing one of the gifts for them, your gift may very well be the only one they receive. More information on collection dates and such will be provided at a later date. Another activity beginning this month will be the children making Christmas ornaments each Wednesday night to be used for the children s tree which they will decorate and display in the fellowship hall for their Happy Birthday Jesus Party. Each child may also bring a favorite ornament or small toy from home to share on the tree. The kids will be so excited to decorate a tree of their own! The month of December also brings about several events and activities; here is a quick glance at them, with more info to follow as time nears. December 1 WUMC Christmas float in Woodbine Christmas Parade December 12 Happy Birthday Jesus Party December 19 Holiday Movie Night, wear your favorite PJ s I pray each of you have a Happy Thanksgiving and an attitude of gratitude during this holiday season. Thanks be to God, Maryann 5
