Worthy Master s Report 4 th Quarter 2013 I would like to start off this newsletter by stating how appreciative Susan and I were for the support the District and friends provided us at the passing of my father, Harry Wasmund. For those Color Corpsmen who participated at the Casket Watch and Funeral Mass, thank you so very much. I cannot begin to say how many comments we received regarding the participation and professionalism the Color Corps demonstrated. I would like to thank those Assemblies who participated in the BBQ that was hosted by Bishop Gallagher Assembly 0482 in July for the troops being deployed overseas. Those men who did attend had a great time cooking and serving the troops and were later thanked by being given an opportunity to fire weapons at the firing range. This goes to show that good things happen to those who answer the call. Those who attended the Fall Exemplification had the opportunity to meet, listen and provide their best wishes to our new VSM, Donald L. Hall. The VSM stated to me and others how welcomed he felt and was pleased with the fine showing of 101 candidates at his first Exemplification as VSM. Thank you to those Color Corpsmen that came to help out. I was told that the Color Corps looked sharp at inspection and all were in compliance to Supreme s regalia guidelines. The Provincial Meeting will take place at the Sterling Inn in Sterling Heights on October 11-13 th. I thank those Assemblies who took out an ad in the Souvenir Book. I strongly encourage the officers of the Assembly to take advantage of the training sessions being held on Saturday. This is your chance to ask questions on issues you have experienced. The cost for the training is $10/pp if you not attending the banquet. The Fall Harvest District Meeting will be back at DeCarlo s Banquet Center. Awards will be given out during dinner. The ladies will be packing boxes for the troops during our meeting. I strongly encourage the Assemblies to purchase provisions listed on the separate attachment as to what the troops can use. These boxes are sometimes the only connection they have with home. There will be a 50/50 raffle to generate funds to cover the postage of the boxes. The Spring Exemplification will be held on March 8, 2014. More details can be found within the newsletter. Please consider taking out an ad for your Assembly and solicit from businesses you patronize. There will be a basket raffle so please give some thought to your theme for your basket. Susan and I would like to wish you and your family a safe, happy and health holiday this season and look forward to seeing you at the Provincial and District meetings. Fraternally yours, Clifford F. Wasmund

Page 2 4 th Quarter 2013 2013 Fall Exemp Exceeds the Century Mark Pledge of Allegiance I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag of the Unites States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, One Nation Under God, Indivisible, Yes, it is true! This Fall s Exemplification class exceeded 100 candidates, if only by one. Even though this was not a record number for a One Day Exemplification, which was held by the Fall class of 2007 with 115 candidates, it is encouraging to see a positive trend in larger classes starting to emerge and an honor towards our Class Honoree District Friar, Rev. Thomas Sutherland. This may be the result in the approved economy, but I am hoping that it is the result of Assemblies beating the proverbial bushes at their Councils and asking the Third Degree members to join. The new Vice Supreme Master Donald L. Hall, attended his first Exemplification as VSM of the Fr. Hennepin Province. Don stated that he felt very welcomed by the District. It was also the Supreme Director Thomas Wegener s and State Advocate Tony Vittorini s birthday that day to which they were presented with a cake. As it turns out, the day before was FM Walter Winkle and the State Deputy Michael Malinowski s birthday the following Monday so they joined in the celebrations. Approximately 60+ Color participated in the ceremony and more than half of the candidates and their wives attended Mass following the banquet. Spring Exemplification March 8, 2014 As mentioned in the 3 rd Quarter newsletter, the 2014 4 th Degree Spring Exemplification location has moved and will be held at DeCarlo's Banquet and Convention Center located at 6015 East Ten Mile Road (E. of Mound Road), Warren 48091. The move is to give our Candidates the best value for their money and this location is the most centralized location for those traveling from all directions within the District. The price for the candidate will be $70.00; Priests are free. There will be a Ladies Program which is also free of charge. The cost of the dinner for wives and/or friends will remain the same at $30.00 per person. Should the candidate choose to purchase a class photograph, which is optional, the cost is only $6.00. All Sir Knights are encouraged to ask a 3 rd Degree member from their Council to become a Sir Knight this coming Spring. Our Class Honoree will be announced in the near future. The Program and forms can be found on the website under the Forms tab. Ultrasound Machine Presentation With Liberty and Justice for all. Color Corps from Bishop Gallagher Assembly 0482 participate in an Ultrasound Machine dedication

4 th Quarter 2013 Page 3 Commander Gary Beasley and Color Corpsman Wally Wolfe from Fr. John Hardon Assembly 3099 participate in Piquette Square Veterans 2 nd Annual Patriot Day Observance that was held on September 11, 2013. Milford Assembly Makes Donation to Homeless Veterans Fr. John A. Hardon Assembly #3099, honored the Veterans for their service and sacrifice at the Piquette Square for Veterans in the city of Detroit. This facility provides housing and comprehensive support services that help 150 formerly homeless veterans. Assembly leader, Dennis Haas (Faithful Navigator), presented a $5000.00 check to the Veterans Resource Facilitator, Chery Allen. The veterans, Assembly members, ladies of the Assembly, and the Color Corps all participated in the event. Following the presentation, the Assembly provided pizza and beverages for our Veterans living at the center. The Veterans thanked were very appreciative as the Assembly thanked them for serving our Country. Chalices Looking For a Home At the District meeting in May, a discussion took place concerning a number of Assemblies who stated that they had chalices to donate to a Priest or Missionary but had no idea who to send them to. At the same time a number of Assemblies said that they knew of Priests heading overseas that could hand deliver those chalices to priests in Africa, India and other countries. It was agreed that Chalice Chairman PFN Richard Fron would be a so-called Clearing House for Assemblies to donate chalices to and to advise Richard of a Priest that would be going overseas and could hand deliver these chalices. Richard s contact information can be found on the last page of this newsletter.

Page 4 4 th Quarter 2013 2013 Fall Harvest Meeting Reminder The Fall Harvest District Meeting will be held on November 3 rd @ 2:00 PM at DeCarlo s Banquet & Convention Center in Warren. The invitations to the Assembly are being sent to the Navigator this week. Like last year s meeting, we will discuss the State of the District in regards to supporting Supreme, State and District Programs, and an open forum for questions and answers. This year the Assembly Awards will be presented at the dinner. The Faithful Navigator, Comptroller and Commander are expected to attend while other Assembly officers and members are also encouraged to participate. Like last year, the dress attire will be sport coats (tie optional). Our District continues its partnership with Desert Angel and plans have been confirmed to hold our 3 rd Annual Packing Party for the ladies. DeCarlo s has offered a large room so there will be ample room for them to pack boxes. This year s goal is to exceed 155 boxes from last year. Monetary donations are also needed to assist with the postage. A list of the items needed for the boxes can be found within this newsletter. Officers of New Assembly Installed The charter officers of the new Assembly, Fr. Vincent Capodanno 3392 were installed on June 29, 2013 at St. Perpetua Church in Waterford. Master Clifford Wasmund (left) presents the Assembly Charter to FN Dennis Haas and Assembly Friar Fr. Jack Baker. The new Assembly officers and members. Coats for Homeless Vets If you recall, we had a coat drive for the homeless Vets in the Detroit area which turned out to be fairly successful. Even though only eight Assemblies participated, we did collect 711 coats which accounted for nearly 43% of the total coats collected by the AMVETS. This year we are planning on conducting the collection again and ask that this be a Districtwide initiative. For those Assemblies that did not participate, this would be your second chance of helping our homeless Vets. The project is easy to do and step-by-step instructions/ideas will be included in the packets the Navigators will receive at the District Meeting. All we are asking is for a few men in each Assembly to chair the project. It does not take too much time or effort, just the initiative. Samples of the articles and signs for the boxes can be obtained by contacting the Master. The efforts of the Knights of Columbus and AMVETS helped homeless Vets not only in the Detroit area but also in Grand Rapids, Bay City, Saginaw and Grand Rapids.

Page 6 Ladies Corner 4 th Quarter 2013 Congratulations to the ladies installed as the new Officers of our LOTAs for 2013-2014. I hope to see the LOTAs get involved in District activities this year. THANK YOU to all the 130 ladies who attended the Ladies Program during the Fall Exemplification held on September 21 st. This was the largest group of ladies we have ever had and it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and new First Ladies attend. We were fortunate to have Christopher Fletcher from Washington DC who is President and Founder of The Phenix Foundation as our guest speaker. We will be holding our 3 rd Annual Packing Party with Desert Angels on November 3 rd at DeCarlo s Banquet Center. A list of the items needed can be found on the website under the Forms tab. Our goal is to exceed the 155 boxes we packed last year. Lady Susan Mailing of Donation Checks and Forms It still seems as though donations for Guest House, Holy Cross Children Services or the Military Chaplain Scholarship Program get mailed to the incorrect person or the check is made out incorrectly. At the May 18 th District meeting, I included in your package a flyer that provides the correct information as to who the check should be mailed to and how the check should be made out. Listed below is the information once again for your reference. (Details for the Military Chaplain Scholarship Program are provided in the following article.) Military Chaplain Scholarship Program - Update Listed below are the donations received to date. We are at 46% to the District s five-year goal of $20,000. I would ask those Assemblies who are less than 40% to go back to your membership and discuss the need to submit a donation and support this program. Remember, your Assembly would be supporting both your active military personnel overseas and Seminarians.
