From Bad to Worse By Pastor Dennis Felder November 11, 2018 Scripture: Numbers 21:4-9 (NIV) How to know if your day will turn from bad to worse: I. If you start by being. Numbers 21:4 They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; It is not sinful to be impatient, but if not controlled properly it will lead you down the road of sin. Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. If you do not get your impatience under control, then you will become critical. II. Then you become. Numbers 21:5 They spoke against God and against Moses, and said, Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food! When life does not go your way, it is easy to start criticizing others. Philippians 2:14-15a Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. John 6:30-33 So they asked him, What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Jesus said to them, Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. If you do not control your impatience, then you will become critical, and when you become critical, God will set you straight. III. Then God will set you. Numbers 21:6-7 Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. The people came to Moses and said, We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us. So Moses prayed for the people. Your attitude/behavior can cost you everything. Romans 6:23a For the wages of sin is death... Many people today give up on God. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. When your day goes from bad to worse, remember that God can turn your worst day into a great day.

IV. God can make your day. Numbers 21:8-9 The Lord said to Moses, Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live. So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived. 2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. John 3:14-15 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him. It is time to lookup and see Jesus. Sermon Notes: If you would like to listen to the sermon on-line, please visit our website at www.usbchurch.org.

Thanksgiving Eve Service On Wednesday, November 21, from 7 p.m. 8 p.m., our USBC family will be creating new memories to share with others. For our Thanksgiving Eve Service, like last year, we will gather in the church s Fellowship Hall. During this hour of reflection and celebration, we will create yummy desserts to share with one another, share Thanksgiving memories, sing festive music, and express our thankfulness for one another and for our Lord and Savior. The church will be providing all food/dessert supplies for each person to create a crafty dessert. All the recipes will be simple to make. Once completed, we will share the sweet treats with one another. As we are making our tasty treats, everyone will have the opportunity to share stories involving Thanksgiving memories. We will sing songs and read Scriptures that will help to develop and maintain a heart of Thanksgiving during this special season. The only thing that you will need to bring is yourself. Everyone one is invited! Museum of the Bible On Sunday, December 2, we will be visiting the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. Following our worship service, we will have a quick lunch, carpool to the Shady Grove Metro Station, and arrive at the museum around 2 p.m. The cost will be $10 per person and you will be responsible for purchasing your fare to ride Metro. However, lunch will be provided by the church. If you would like to attend, please sign up in the church s foyer. Here is a brief description of the museum: Museum of the Bible aims to be among the most technologically advanced and engaging museums in the world. Showcasing rare artifacts spanning 3,500 years of history, the museum offers visitors an immersive and personalized experience with the Bible, and its ongoing impact on the world around us. If you would like more information about the Museum of the Bible, please visit their website at www.museumofthebible.org. The Menorah Within the Jewish faith, it is very common to light a Menorah during the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. This Jewish holiday is observed during the Christian celebration of Christmas. Often, in certain public displays you will see a Menorah next to a Christmas Tree. For many Christians, we do not understand the purpose or meaning of the Menorah. On December 8 at 4 p.m., our very own Brian Altman will be sharing with our church the history, the meaning, and the purpose of the Menorah. Brian will teach us the significance of the Menorah in the Jewish faith and how it has been observed and celebrated. In addition, we will learn how the Christian faith can embrace its meaning. To celebrate the lighting of the Menorah, we will observe this special occasion just like Jewish families will be doing. When lighting the Menorah they also celebrate by eating fried foods. So, we also will be serving up some delicious fried desserts to satisfy our taste buds following the lighting of our Menorah Christmas Decorating It is that wonderful time of year again CHRISTMAS! As we prepare for the all the Christmas activities at the church, we will be decorating our church building for this festive season. On Saturday, November 24 at 10 a.m., we need your help in putting up our Christmas decorations. If you can help with our Christmas decorating, please sign-up in the church s foyer. Q & A Time for I SERVE Today, immediately following the worship service, we will be having a follow up Q & A time for I SERVE. Join us to help better understand our ministry opportunities and how you can make a difference.
