January 24, 2016 2 Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable. In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the good news of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action. January 24, 2016 4 Time, Talent & Treasure Fostering Stewardship as a way of life Thanks for Giving First Fruits & Taking a Step!!! We all are stewards of the Church. Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who invite a new family in town to supper, actively celebrating a corporal work of mercy as they provide welcome to a stranger. January 24, 2016 7 The way we came to know love was that He laid down His life for us; so we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If someone who has worldly means sees a brother in need and refuses him compassion, how can the love of God remain in him? Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth. 1 John 3: 16-18 RESPECT LIFE NEWS LOVE THEM BOTH! Saturday, February 13, 9:30-10:30 AM, 180 Sunrise Highway, W. Islip 11795 celebrating the spirit of St. Valentine s Day. Unborn babies need love too. Signs provided at site. (Sponsor LICL 631-243-1435) Some pro-life thoughts: I do not hesitate to proclaim before you and before the world that all human life from the moment of conception and throughout all subsequent stages is sacred, because human life is created in the image and likeness of God and when God gives life, it is forever. Saint John Paul II Roe vs. Wade, the court case that legalized abortion 43 years ago, was a declaration of war on defenseless baby boys and girls in the womb whose only crime is that they exist. If it be necessary to go against the current of what is sometime being thought and said on all sides, then let us never grow weary of repeating it-all human life must be absolutely respected. In fact, abortion and euthanasia are murder. Pope Paul VI US ABORTIONS SINCE 1973, ROE VS WADE, AS OF 1/17/2016 at7:23 PM is 58,636,461. (Source: usabortionclock.org) Each Abortion Results in Death for a Precious Baby Having Been Given an Eternal Soul Made in the Image and Likeness of God!!! More than ever we need to pray that everyone will respect all life. Our St. Francis of Assisi Baby Corner especially needs Huggies, Luv s, and Pampers diapers sizes 4 and 5, unscented baby wipes, unscented shampoo, unscented baby wash, and money for formula. We thank Our Lord through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Francis for all the blessings bestowed upon our Baby Corner. Need assistance? Wish to join our St. Francis of Assisi Respect Life Committee? Please call our rectory at 631-757-7435. Intercessions for Life: Third Sunday in Ordinary Time For all Catholics: May our hearts be open to God s call to bring comfort to those who are vulnerable and oppressed. We pray to the Lord. Word of Life: The concerns for non-violence, sustainable development, justice and peace, and care for our environment are of vital importance for humanity. They cannot; however, be understood apart from a profound reflection upon the innate dignity of every human life from conception to natural death: a dignity conferred by God Himself and thus inviolable. -Pope Benedict XVI, Welcoming Celebration by the Young People, July 17, 2008 (2008 Libreria Editrice Vaticana.) The Life Center of Long Island at 631-243-2373. Call for help with a crisis pregnancy, healing after an abortion, or to donate baby equipment. Please do not bring cribs, car seats, etc. into our Church; rather call the Life Center to make arrangements. The Life Center s Life Line is open 24 hours, 7 days a week at 631-243-0066. Please continue to pray each day for our precious babies born and unborn and their parents!!! Pray the rosary for the conversion of America s heart to end abortion.
