VISION What we hope the future looks like! WE SEE A church passionately following Jesus. A Christ Centred Community that encourages continual growth and maturity in Christ while being equipped to relevantly share the Gospel to help people find and follow Jesus. We see a church where people find acceptance, love and connection through community. Every person is supported through, and involved in, pastoral care, small groups, worship and ministry opportunities. We seek to be united in one voice and one mind committed to this vision while celebrating our diversity. We see a church that prays. We see a church with evidence of the Holy Spirit and the power of God in our lives. We see people empowered by the Holy Spirit, using their spiritual gifts and actively serving in the church and the world. We see a church of servant leaders, continuing the great legacy of those before us, obedient to the call of God and raising up new leaders for generations to come. Our leaders serve Lifestreams locally and in the broader community, country and cosmos. We see a church breaking new ground and seeking God for new opportunities to build His Kingdom. This includes building a community hub in the heart of our city to be a light of hope for all those around us. We see a church growing globally passionately spreading the love of Jesus to every part of the world by building authentic relationships, breaking out of our comfort zones and welcoming all people. We commit to carrying the hope of Jesus to the ends of the earth and ministering to the oppressed and vulnerable so they can experience the love of God. Perth recognises that there are differing theologies with regards to baptism (including infant baptism). In the New Testament, it was people who confessed faith in Christ who were baptised and this is the basis of our practise at Lifestreams Christian Church South Perth. Please collect a Baptism Truth for Living pamphlet from the pamphlet racks in the foyer, or you can download a copy from our website www.lifestreamscc.com. I M A NEW CHRISTIAN CAN I BE AN ACTIVE MEMBER? Absolutely! Spiritual formation is a life-long, whole of life process. Active Members are committed to ongoing spiritual formation. They have fixed their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of their faith. DOES BECOMING AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF LIFESTREAMS CHRISTIAN CHURCH SOUTH PERTH MEAN THAT I HAVE TO CONTRIBUTE FINANCIALLY TO THE CHURCH? Perth does not exclude people from becoming Active Members on the basis of what they may financially contribute to the work and mission of Lifestreams Christian Church South Perth. However, we do affirm that people who are seeking to live in a Christ-like way will reflect the generous nature of God. We believe that giving financially is an outward expression of gratitude to God. Giving affirms our commitment to steward everything God has given. We are committed to reflecting the generous heart of God in our support of our Christ to Cosmos (C2C), building projects and in our financial gifts to the poor and marginalized (love offerings). OUR BELIEFS of Perth to embody. ABOUT ESSENTIAL BELIEFS - WE HAVE UNITY... ABOUT NON-ESSENTIAL BELIEFS - WE HAVE LIBERTY THROUGH ALL OUR BELIEFS - WE SHOW LOVE OUR CENTRE IS CHRIST; OUR BOOK IS THE BIBLE John 14:6, Acts 4:13, Philippians 2:5 11, Colossians 1:15 20, Colossians 2:16 17, 1 John 1:1 4, Revelation 1:8 The centrality of Christ is fundamental to Christian faith and doctrine. The Bible is primarily God s revelation to people in written form, which finds its fulfilment in Christ. Christ is God s ultimate revelation to people and our Christian faith is all about our relationship with God through Christ. CHRISTIANS ONLY, BUT NOT THE ONLY CHRISTIANS We are committed to being known simply as Christians like the early followers of Christ (Acts 11:26). We recognise that we are one part of the universal Church of Jesus Christ, that He loved and gave Himself for (Ephesians 5:25b). It is our desire to commit ourselves to the unity of God s people as Jesus prayed and longed for (John 17:13-23). ESSENTIAL BELIEFS About God Genesis 1:26 27, Genesis 3:22, Psalm 90:2, Matthew 28:19, 1 Peter 1:2, 2 Corinthians 13:14 God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He eternally exists in three (3) persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. About Jesus Christ Matthew 1:22 23, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1 5, John 14:10 30, Hebrews 4:14 15, 1 Corinthians 15:3 4, Romans 1:3 4, Acts 1:9 11, 1 Timothy 6:14 15, Titus 2:13 Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven s glory and will return again some day to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. A Perth Active Member: Knows they are a child of God (Conversion - John 3:1-7). Is committed to give verbal witness to their faith (Confession - Romans 10:9 10). Understands that their relationship and walk with Christ is central to everything, shaped by a regular commitment to reading the Word and Prayer. (Christ-like Character Galatians 5:22-25, 2 Peter 3:18). Is involved with other believers in an area of ministry (Congregation Romans 12:4 8). We encourage gatherings of small groups wherever and whenever. Believers can meet for mutual encouragement, accountability and support (Acts 2:46). People in these situations are welcome to be committed to Perth as General Members. Anyone who openly confesses faith in Christ Jesus is welcome to become a General Member. General Members are people who identify with the Vision, Mission and Values of Perth. General Members attend worship and prayer gatherings, small groups and ministry activities when they can. General Members are able to engage with most aspects of the Perth community. However, because General Members are unable to be regularly present with the Church community they are not able to hold leadership positions or vote at Perth congregational meetings. Belongs to a small group of other believers. There are many different opportunities for meeting in small 4 9

THE CHURCH S PURPOSE Jesus created the Church following His resurrection to continue His mission of saving the world from sin and death. Jesus outlined the church s purpose in The Great Commission captured in the Gospel Mark 16:15-16 He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Matthew 28:10b 12 NIV. The Bible also describes the Church as the Bride of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2) whom Jesus loves and gave Himself for (Ephesians 5:25). The Church is His Body (Romans 12:5, 1 Corinthians 12:12 27, Ephesians 3:6 & 5:23, Colossians 1:18 & 1:24) through whom He speaks and acts, by which He fills everything with His presence (Ephesians 1:23). It is through the Church that Jesus brings the principalities and powers into submission (Ephesians 1:22 23). Christians are therefore urged not to neglect gathering together (Hebrews 10:24 25). THE CHRIST FOLLOWER AND THE LOCAL CHURCH The Church is to help people to know Christ and to grow towards Christ likeness (spiritual maturity). Being a follower of Jesus (discipleship) is an interactive process which requires commitment and consistency. The Church is united when we are gathered and when we are apart. The Church at all times is bound together by Christ. This means that a Christ-follower is someone who is willing to: Commit to active participation in relationships within the Church that results in a desire to serve one another and to meet needs according to the gifts that God gives to every believer. Commit to the weekly gathering of the Church (Sunday Worship) and to small groups. MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS WHAT ARE THE MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP AND GENERAL MEMBERSHIP? Perth offers two forms of Membership: Active Membership and General Membership. Active Membership: There are eight (8) key characteristics that we encourage all active members About the Holy Spirit 2 Corinthians 3:17, John 16:7 13, John 14:16 17, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 2:12, 1 Corinthians 3:16, Ephesians 1:13, Galatians 5:25, Ephesians 5:18 The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives believers spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians we are to live under His control daily. About the Bible 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20 21, 2 Timothy 1:13, Psalm 119:105, Psalm 12:6, Proverbs 30:5 The Bible is God s Word to us. Human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit wrote it. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because God inspires it, it is the truth without any mixture of error. About Human Beings Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3 6, Isaiah 53:6a, Romans 3:23, Isaiah 59:1 2 People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God - called sin. This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life. About Salvation Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8 9, John 14:6, John 1:12, Titus 3:5, Galatians 3:26, Romans 5:1, John 10:29, 2 Timothy 1:12, Hebrews 7:25, Hebrews 10:10 14, 1 Peter 1:3-5 Salvation is God s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment a person receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith and this faith will be evidenced through the believer s obedient life. Salvation is sustained through the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. People Were Created to Exist Forever John 3:16, 1 John 2:25, 1 John 5:11 13, Romans 6:23, Revelation 20:15, Matthew 18:8, Matthew 25:41 46 We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in unison with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence 8 5

OUR EVANGELISM STRATEGY Our simple strategy to reaching people for Christ Bridge Building As followers of Christ, we are committed to building relationships of integrity with people in our world who don t know the Lord. OUR LEADERSHIP The leadership of Lifestreams Christian Church South Perth is first of all: Christ-Centred As a Church, we desire to reflect the priority of Christ in all we do and how we do it. No decision is ever made that would knowingly contradict any of Christ s teaching. Together we endeavour to discern through the leading of the Holy Spirit what God is saying to us as a Church. These teams are: Servant Leadership Team These people are Christ-like, gifted people who are called and appointed by the Church to provide oversight and governance of the Church. Ministry Leadership Team These people are our senior ministry staff.
