All children are welcome here, but we know that a fussy baby is much louder to a parent s ears than to any of ours. If you have need: We have a nursery down the main stairs and to the left. It is staffed with volunteers, who will gladly care for any little ones who show up at the beginning of the service. If there are none, the volunteers will come up to the sanctuary, the nursery room will remain available. There is also a diaper change station in the Nursery and in both downstairs restrooms. We have a speaker in the narthex so that you DIY soothers can listen while you walk the little ones around. Worship Service Notes ANNOUNCEMENTS LIFESTYLES FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS & SERVICE Good Samaritan will begin collecting non-perishable foods as part of a donation to the Life Styles Food Pantry. Donations will continue through Sunday, November 18. Donations can be placed in the large baskets available in the narthex storage closet. Additionally, on Sunday, November 18, Pastor Mark Gaskill will lead the congregation in a Blessing of the Food ceremony as part of the 10:15 worship service. Everyone in attendance is encouraged to have one item of food to donate during the service. Baskets will be located at the front of the sanctuary for donations to be submitted as part of this ceremony. Anyone with questions regarding the program can contact Jack Tuttle. SAFE NIGHTS SAFE NIGHTS will be housed at Good Samaritan from Sunday, Nov. 11 th to Sunday, Nov. 25 th. FRIENDS WHO LUNCH The Friends Who Lunch will meet together Tuesday, November 13 th, with a luncheon at Szechuan Garden in Waldorf. They will meet there at 12:00 noon. NEW ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS November/December there will be a new Adult Sunday School Option, led by Michele Gaskill on Nov 11, 18, 25, Dec 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. Our resource will be: Amazing Grace, A Vocabulary of Faith by Kathleen Norris, from the New York Times-bestselling author of The Cloister Walk, a book about Christianity, spirituality, and rediscovered faith. Struggling with her return to the Christian church after many years away, Kathleen Norris found it was the language of Christianity that most distanced her from faith. Words like "judgment," "faith," "dogma," "salvation," "sinner" even "Christ" formed what she called her "scary vocabulary," words that had become so codified or abstract that their meanings were all but impenetrable. She found she had to wrestle with them and make them her own before they could confer their blessings and their grace. Blending history, theology, storytelling, etymology, and memoir, Norris uses these words as a starting point for reflection. We will be reading some chosen excerpts aloud and discussing what they mean to each of us individually and as a church body learning to be disciples. Purchase of book is optional. CHILDREN IN CHURCH We have recently decided to make a change to the way we encourage our younger members to be a part of Sunday morning worship. We will no longer be running our Children's Church program following the Children's time. Instead we will be offering an expanded nursery program, and some new options for those kids who are trying to learn to participate in the "grown-up" part of church. Here are some guidelines: Children who are in Kindergarten or below are welcome in the Nursery. We have added an extra adult volunteer and are ready with some "big kid" activities. For those who are growing out of nursery we have made some space in the sanctuary for them to be able to sit and do some activities. The target age of the activity table in the back of the sanctuary is 1st-3rd Grade. There will be an adult volunteer sitting near the table to help keep things "decent and in order," as is the Presbyterian way. Kids who would like to make use of the table are asked to behave themselves, share, and participate in songs and other parts of worship, but they will be given things to help them keep the fidgets at bay. Our Children's Bulletins will be available at the table and on clipboards that kids who would like to stay with parents or grandparents can take to their seats. Parents are encouraged to make the ultimate decision about what is best for their child, our age guidelines are flexible, not written in stone. As with all changes there are ups and downs and we welcome feedback on what might improve our ministry to the little ones. *Apostle s Creed (Ecumenical) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again, he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. FIRST READING DEUTERONOMY 6:1-9 Now this is the commandment the statutes and the ordinances that the LORD your God charged me to teach you to observe in the land that you are about to cross into and occupy, 2 so that you and your children and your children s children, may fear the LORD your God all the days of your life, and keep all his decrees and his commandments that I am commanding you, so that your days may be long. 3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe them diligently, so that it may go well with you, and so that you may multiply greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has promised you. 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. 6 Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. 7 Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. 8 Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, 9 and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. SECOND READING MARK 12: 28-34 28 One of the scribes came near and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, he asked him, Which commandment is the first of all? 29 Jesus answered, The first is, Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; 30 you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. 31 The second is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. 32 Then the scribe said to him, You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that he is one, and besides him there is no other ; 33 and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love one s neighbor as oneself, this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. After that no one dared to ask him any question.

We are pleased that you have chosen to worship with us today. There are fellowship pads at the end of the row, please pass them, and sign them, so that you can learn the names of those who are sitting near you and so that they can know yours as well. Provide other information as desired. After the service, talk to old friends and meet some new ones. We have snacks and coffee downstairs. We have a platform lift for anyone who doesn t do well with stairs, see an usher for assistance. Please be mindful that as we prepare for worship we are entering sacred space and sacred time. Please turn off cell phones and refrain from using other electronic media. * * * * * * * * The flowers on the Retable this morning are in celebration of Janice Eargle s birthday * * * * * * * * Today's Volunteers: Greeters: Phyllis and Tom Ruble (10:15); Acolyte: Mary Ellison; Ushers: Bill Koennel and Jack Crews (10:15); Readers: Sandy Webb (8:00), Grover Baldwin and Peggy Hancock (10:15); Children In Church: Alan Luton; Nursery Volunteers: Margaret Beigel and Henry Buntz; Coffee Hour: Heather and James Kriebel * * * * * * * * Mon. At The Cross (Love Ran Red) There s a place where mercy reigns and never dies. There s a place where streams of grace flow deep and wide. Where all the love I ve ever found Comes like a flood, comes flowing down. CHORUS At the cross, at the cross, I surrender my life. I m in awe of You. I m in awe of You. Where Your love ran red and my sin washed white. I owe all to You. I owe all to You, Jesus. There s a place where sin and shame are powerless. Where my heart has peace with God and forgiveness. Where all the love I ve ever found Comes like a flood, comes flowing down. Here my hope is found. Here on holy ground. Here I bow down. Here I bow down. Here arms open wide. Here You saved my life. Here I bow down. Here I bow I owe all to You. I owe all to You. Jesus, Savior of the world. Jesus, Savior of the world. Your love ran red. Your love ran red. At The Table I won t hunger anymore at His table. I won t hunger anymore at His table. Come all you weary, come and find. His yoke is easy, His burden light. He is able; He will restore at the table of the Lord. There is peace at the table of the Lord. There is peace at the table of the Lord. I won t worry anymore at His table. There is healing at the table of the Lord. There is healing at the table of the Lord. I won t suffer anymore at His table. Come all you weary, come and find. His yoke is easy, His burden light. He is able; He will restore at the table of the Lord. Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I m found, was blind but now I see. Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed. CHORUS My chains are gone, I ve been set free. My God my Savior has ransomed me. And like a flood, His mercy rains unending love, amazing grace. The Lord has promised good for me, His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures. CHORUS (sing twice) The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, the sun forbear to shine. But God, who called me here below will be forever mine. Will be forever mine. You are forever mine.
