Live Nativity The Birth of Jesus Christ Mathew 2: 1-2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a band of scholars arrived in Jerusalem from the East. They asked around, Where can we find and pay homage to the newborn King of the Jews? We observed a star in the eastern sky that signaled His Birth. We are on a pilgrimage to worship Him. November is here; where has this year gone? We are all getting ready for Thanksgiving and thinking about the upcoming holidays. There s the turkey to cook, the potatoes to mash; all for the Thanksgiving feast. Then, there s the tree to decorate and the presents to buy and wrap; another meal to plan. Whew!! What a busy time of year. Let s all take a minute and thank God for being present in our lives and realizing it is all possible because of Him! This year, our Live Nativity mission is in jeopardy. We are in desperate need of narrators and shepherds. Without you, the Live Nativity s mission of sharing God s immense love with those in our community who do not regularly attend church is in danger. Without you, the Live Nativity can t go on. In Mark 16:15, Jesus told his disciples to Go into the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Won t you please consider signing up for the Live Nativity and spread the word of His birth this holiday season to those in our community? There really is a spot for everyone. The Live Nativity is on Thursday, December 7, and Friday, December 8, 2017, from 6-8 P.M. at Young s UM Rec Field. These 4 hours will be an opportunity for our guests, as well as ourselves, to disengage the hustle and bustle and the noise the Christmas season brings and allow us to reflect on the real reason for the season Jesus. The sign-up sheets are in both churches. Please prayerfully consider helping with the Live Nativity; you can sign up for either night or both nights. You will be blessed!! Thank you to all who have already signed up to help spread the word of the birth of our Savior to our community. The Live Nativity committee is so thankful for the support and participation in this awesome event from our church family at Young s and Shermans Dale UM Church. Judy Oberman

Hanging of the Greens & CHRISTmas Blessings The autumn season has arrived. With that thought in mind, our thoughts are turned toward our annual CHRISTmas Treasures Toy giveaway program on December 2, 2017, and our annual Hanging of the Greens service. This is the beginning of our advent season. It is a time of preparation and waiting, a time for adorning our homes and hearts in expectation and celebration of Jesus Birth. Christians throughout the world decorate their homes and churches in preparation for the festive family gatherings and church services that characterize the Christmas season. The Hanging of the Greens services will be held on November 26, 2017. The service helps today s Christians understand the meaning of Advent and its traditions. These holiday decorations renew the customs of Christians in centuries past. The scripture shares the origin and meaning of each symbol as it touches our lives today. By shedding light on our Advent traditions, we also shed light on God s gracious gift to his children, the birth of the babe born in Bethlehem so many years ago. Part of our Hanging of the Greens service involves decorating our Christmas tree, hanging the evergreens, and presenting the advent wreath and candles. This year we will be adding another tradition to our program. We are inviting all families to be a part of the CHRISTmas Treasures ministry by bringing a toy to share in the Christmas Treasures Toy giveaway program. The toys collected on Sunday, November 26 th, will be placed underneath the Christmas tree as a part of the service. The very next Saturday, December 2, the toys will be distributed at our annual CHRISTmas Treasures event. We know this will be a blessing to all involved, those that have donated toys, those that help with the event and of course, the recipient. Please prayerfully consider being a part of this vital outreach in our community by donating a gift on November 26 th. What a great way to show our community God s love in action! Please see George or Chris Binger or Brooke Haas for ideas on the toys that are needed most. Thank you. Ed & Kathy Bridge CHRISTmas Treasures CHRISTmas Treasures is once again gearing up for our annual toy give away day on Saturday, December 2, 2017. This event is held at the Shermans Dale Ambulance Building. Toys as well as other items are needed; if you would like to donate toys, please see Judy Oberman or Kathy Bridge for suggestions. Monetary donations are always accepted as well. If you are interested in helping the day of the event, please see Missy Black. God Bless. Missy Black

Reflections I recently found this article. I don t know who wrote it, but I found it interesting. The Mayonnaise Jar and Coffee When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar..and the coffee A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When he class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large, empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured I into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous yes. The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. Now, said the professor, as the laughter subsided, I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions, things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else the small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first, he continued, there would be no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical for your happiness. Play with your children. Take time for medical check-ups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand. One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. I m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there s always room for a couple cups of coffee with a friend. Please share this with someone you care about. I JUST DID. Ed Bridge
