The Assembly will have its elections this Tuesday, May 15 th. Please bring your fellow 4th Degree brother knights. We need enough members to elect the new incoming officers. The elections will be conducted by the Area District Secretary. If you would like to put your name in nomination for an officer position, please e-mail Rick Bentine at FNmta2506@gmail.com Mother Teresa Assembly 2506 Suggested Officer Slate for 18-19 Faithful Navigator Faithful Captain Faithful Pilot Faithful Admiral Faithful Purser Faithful Scribe Faithful 3 Year Trustee Faithful 2 Year Trustee Faithful 1 Year Trustee Faithful Outer Sentinel Faithful Outer Sentinel Faithful Inner Sentinel Faithful Inner Sentinel FAITHFUL CAPTAIN S REPORT SK Adrian Rodriguez, PGK SK Bob Fries SK Kenneth Myers SK Rick Bentine, PGK SK Oliver Iheme SK Raul Medina SK Robert Font, PFN, PGK SK Jorge Gonzalez, PFN, PGK SK John Parker, PFN, PGK SK Billy Kornegay, PGK SK Marty Martinez SK Manuel Ojeda, PGK SK Roger Fulton The month of May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world [pay] to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Christians, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance". (Paul VI: Encyclical on the Month of May, no. 1) For the elections. I pray that whoever is chosen to lead our assembly, may God inspire them through the Holy Spirit to remain strong and fight temptation and forces of greed. I also pray for a victim of greed, a century old supporter of the K of C, Lynch & Kelly. Amen. Faithful Navigator SK Rick Bentine, PGK Faithful Captain SK Adrian Rodriguez, PGK

Page 2 PILOT S REPORT FAITHFUL PILOT REPORT I have been reflecting on the last year of service as Faithful Pilot to your Assembly. It has been an enriching experience. Over the years, I often find myself avoiding service because I allow my self-appointed busy life to dominate my schedule. But when I stop to think about the service that I have done. It is always of more benefit to me than I first expected. Faithful Pilot SK Robert Bob Fries To be sure, there are more opportunities than I can successfully accept and be able to perform at a competent level. I have had to turn down more than I can accept, but with careful consideration and prayer, I try to keep my hands and mind from being idle. Please see continuation of report on Page 7. FAITHFUL REPORT THE ADMIRAL S TABLE We are soldiers of Christ: In the 800s, Danish Vikings occupied considerable portions of England. A fierce Viking chieftain, Guthrum, was intent on conquering the kingdom of Wessex led by Saxon King Alfred. Over some years the two sides collided in a series of combats culminating with the Battle of Ethandun in 878 when, at last, the Christian army defeated the Viking hordes. Faithful Admiral SK Robert Font PFN Guthrum became convinced that God was on Alfred s side and negotiated for peace at the Treaty of Wedmore. But perhaps even more impressive was Guthrum s conversion to Christianity, taking the Christian name of Æthelstan and undergoing baptism where King Alfred himself acted as godfather to his new adopted son. As Knights of Columbus, we are ourselves soldiers of Christ. We have been called the strong right arm of the church. In the modern world we spread our Lord s message through charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism, the four cornerstones of our honorable order. We set the example for others to follow as we honor our Lord Jesus; always defending His holy name.

Page 3 FAITHFUL COMPTROLLER S REPORT Current membership stands at 214. The next Exemplification will be late September or early October. Plans are in progress. Notices of Suspension were sent last month to those who have not paid their dues this year. 13 members have not paid their dues which is unusually high. Please remind any Fourth Degree members in your Councils to keep their membership current. In the past I remember Veteran Groups selling poppies during May for Memorial Day. Though you don t see much of that any more, we still need to remember what Memorial Day means. Here s a poem by John McCrae: In Flanders Fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you, from failing hands, we throw The torch, be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. UPDATE!!!! LADIES APPRECIATION NEW PRICE DROP!!! Page 4 The End of the Boy Scouts/ by SK Adrian Rodriguez Well, if you haven t heard yet, the Boys Scouts of America have officially done it. The oldest youth group in the US has undergone a sex-change operation of sorts by declaring itself a gender neutral outfit. Such a move does a considerable disservice to both American men and women. (1) Founded in 1910 by William D. Boyce, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) provided a rite of passage to adulthood for millions of young men in the United States. This group has been known for its specific and unique character-building attributes (such as Civic Duty, Patriotism, and Self- Reliance) that the original founders believed to be crucial characteristics for making men of boys.(1) How long can a nation that insists on turning biological fact into fiction in order to create an artificial equality be expected to survive? Not very long, I would guess...there comes a time in the history of every nation when a particular movement, failing to understand the will of the people, pushes the boundaries of acceptability too far, thus endangering the very society it wishes to help. It appears American society has reached that point with the emasculation of the Boy Scouts it is high time for some sort of push back. (1) Created in 1910 to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes, the BSA, on May 23, 2013, tragically voted to welcome into its ranks open and avowed homosexuality (boy-on-boy sexual attraction and behavior), thereby disavowing the morally straight Scout Oath its members have been sworn to uphold for over a century. (2) Is there any chance of finding a new, safer, and morally sound alternative to the former Boy Scouts of America? Fortunately, the answer is YES!! TRAIL LIFE USA The mission statement is very simple and clear: To guide generations of courageous young men to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others and experience outdoor adventure. (2) Trail Life USA is a Christian adventure, character and leadership movement for young men. The K-12 program centers on outdoor experiences that build a young man s skills and allow him to grow on a personal level and as a role model and leader for his peers. Living the Trail Life is a journey established on timeless values derived from the Bible. (2) Trail Life s Membership Standards state, without equivocation, The basis for the program s ethical and moral standards are found in the Bible. In terms of sexual identification and behavior, we affirm that any sexual activity outside the context of the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman is sinful before God and therefore inconsistent with the values and principles of the program.(2) Countless men and boys who once called themselves Boy Scouts will now proudly bear the title of Trailman. If you would like to contribute to this Newsletter, whether it be a story, photo, or an special event taking place at a local parish, please contact Newsletter Editor SK Adrian Rodriguez at AdrianKofC@gmail.com LADIES AUXILIARY FOR THE 4th DEGREE For the Fraternal year coming up in 2018-2019, I would like to know if there is any interest from our better halves to form a 4th Degree Lady s Auxiliary Club. This post was originally placed in last month s Newsletter, however, we thought we would mention once more to see if there is any interest. In our assembly, we have heard from SK Larry J. Weygandt, USCG (Ret) of the many great works done by his wife, Lady Diane Weygandt, specifically with regards to her involvement with Soldiers Angles and her Military Chaplain Support Ministry. If there is any Sir Knight or Lady who wishes to look into the chance of participating in these types of works or even hosting an Auxiliary Club, please contact the Sir Knight Adrian Rodriguez for more details at AdrianKofC@gmail.com KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS 4TH DEGREE ASSEMBLY www.mtassembly2506.org

Page 6 PATRIOT OF THE MONTH By: SK Bob Fries Mr. Daniel Shays (1747 1825) Born to parents of Irish descent about 1747, Shays grew up in humble circumstances near Hopkinton Massachusetts. At the outbreak of the American Revolution he responded to the call to arms at Lexington and served as second lieutenant in a Massachusetts regiment from May to December 1775 and became captain in the 5th Massachusetts Regiment in January 1777. He took part in the Battle of Bunker Hill and in the expedition against Ticonderoga, and he participated in the storming of Stony Point and fought at Saratoga. In 1780 he resigned from the army, settling in Pelham, Massachusetts, where he held several town offices. Prosperity reigned in America at the signing of the peace (1783) but was soon transformed into an acute economic depression. Property holders apparently including Shays began losing their possessions through seizures for overdue debts and delinquent taxes and became subject to debtor s imprisonment. Demonstrations ensued, with threats of violence against the courts handling the enforcements and indictments. Shays emerged as one of several leaders of what by chance came to be called Shays Rebellion (1786 87), and after it was over he and about a dozen others were condemned to death by the Supreme Court of Massachusetts. In 1788 he petitioned for a pardon, which was soon granted. At the end of the rebellion Shays had escaped to Vermont. Afterward he moved to Schoharie county, New York, and then, several years. He died September 29, 1825, Sparta, New York SCRIPTURE VERSE OF THE MONTH Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2: 9-12 CHALICE PRESENTATION On 4/28/18 we presented a chalice in memory of SK Paul Hoke to St. Anthony Catholic Church. The following Color Corp members took place in the event (see image): White capes: SKs Robert Font, Rick Bentine, Jorge Gonzalez, Pat Fletcher. Red capes: SKs Felix Ogbeide, Frank Lopez. Purple cape: SK Raul Medina.

Page 7 M OTH ER TER ESA ASSEM B LY # 2506 (GAR LAN D, TEXAS) REPORT CONTINUED - FAITHFUL PILOT REPORT The point here is to encourage you to step up your service, especially to our Church. I have found that my service to my fellow Catholics has always been more rewarding than other jobs. In that light, I want to ask you to be more active in our Assembly and in your Councils and Parishes. This month we will be nominating officers and I challenge you to make our Assembly better, by being willing to serve. If you cannot serve as an officer, your help on a committee or other activity is always needed. Make your life better by making other s lives better. AROUND THE ASSEMBLY - EVENTS, NEWS, COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS ASSEMBLY MEETING Next meeting will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018. ASSEMBLY WEBSITE This year, we will be placing more emphasis on email communication and the Assembly webpage. We strongly encourage that members go onto the page and familiarize themselves with the contents and be active in providing input and content for both the webpage and newsletter. Please follow the link to our webpage at www.mtassembly2506.org REMINDER: We in the 4th Degree participate in the Chalice Fund. When a Sir Knight passes, a chalice or ciborium is engraved with the Sir Knight s name and presented to a church, priest or mission designated in advance by the Sir Knight and his family. In this way, every time the chalice or ciborium is used in a mass, the Sir Knight is remembered. ASSEMBLY EVENTS ASSEMBLY MEETING FOOD SCHEDULE Please remember if you would like your Council s event mentioned here in this MONTH Council Newsletter, please send us your submission before the 29th of each month.
