10AM SERVICE AT ST JOHN'S ASHFIELD 25 OCTOBER 2009
Welcome! Today's service leader is Blake Hatton Words in bold are said together. 1. Song: That's Why We Praise Him He came to live live a perfect life He came to be the living word of life He came to die so we'd be reconciled He came to rise to show his power and might (Chorus) That's why we praise him, that's why we sing That's why we offer him our everything That's why we bow down and worship this king 'Cause he gave his everything 'Cause he gave his everything He came to live live again in us He came to be our conquering king and friend He came to heal and show the lost his love He came to go prepare a place for us (Repeat chorus) Ha-le, Ha-le-lu-jah! Ha-le, Ha-le-lu-jah! Ha-le, Ha-le-lu-jah! Ha-le, Ha-le-lu-jah! (Repeat chorus twice) Words & Music by Tommy Walker 1999 Doulos Publishing/WeMobile Music Used By Permission - CCLI Licence No. 231282 2
2. Song: Never Alone We're not alone, for Christ is here Immanuel - our God come near We're not alone, for to our world Jesus has come, eternal Word. And as he speaks, our souls laid bare Naked, ashamed, sin is made clear And yet he clothes us in his love Never alone, Christ is with us, he's with us. The longest walk, earth's darkest day The pressing crowd, his mounting pain A heavy load of grief and shame Breathless that we should breathe again. "Father forgive them," comes his cry Silence from God blackens the sky. A creeping dread in every heart Lost in the world now God departs, God departs. The dawn will come, the sun will rise Out of the grave we ll see hope s light. Tomb opened wide, stone rolled away Morning has come, a brand new day. "He isn t here," the angel said. "He is alive - no longer dead!" Our hearts are lifted, souls raised high Christ is with us, Christ is our life, he s our life. Never alone is now our cry In joy, in grief, in lonely sin. Never alone, for Christ is ours He lives in us, we live in him. And 'til we reach that final day When fears are gone, cast far away We'll live secure, trust in his love, Never alone, Christ is with us, he s with us. 4. Confession of sins God of all mercy, we humbly admit that we need your help. We have wandered from your way. We have sinned in thought, word and deed, and have failed to do what is right. You alone can save us. Have mercy on us, wipe out our sins and teach us to forgive others. Bring forth in us the fruit of your Spirit that we may live the new life to your glory. This we ask in the name of Jesus our Saviour. Amen. 5. Declaration of God's forgiveness 6. Prayers for the church and the world 7. The Lord's Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. 8. Success Survey 9. Bible Reading Mark 12:28-34 After the reading: This is the word of the Lord thanks be to God (p.825) 10. Sermon: How to be truly happy - Andrew Katay 4
11. Song: Consider Christ Consider Christ, the source of our salvation That he should take the penalty for me Though he was pure, a lamb without a blemish, He took my sins and nailed them to a tree (Chorus) My Lord and God You are so rich in mercy Mere words alone are not sufficient thanks So take my life, transform, renew and change me that I might be a living sacrifice. Consider Christ, that he could trust his father in the garden of Gethsemane Though full of dread and fearful of the anguish, he drank the cup that was reserved for me (Repeat Chorus) Consider Christ, for death he has defeated and he arose, appeared for all to see And now he sits at God's right hand in heaven, where he prepares a resting place for me. (Repeat Chorus) Words by Bryson Smith Music by Philip Percival 1996 Plainsong Music Used By Permission - CCLI Licence No. 231282 12. Announcements 5
13. Offertory Song: When I Survey the Wondrous Cross During this song a collection is taken for the financial needs of the church's ministry. If you are a visitor today, or contribute by direct deposit, feel free just to pass the bag along. When I survey the wondrous cross On which the prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ my God All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to his blood. See from his head, his hands, his feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down Did e'er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all Demands my soul, my life, my all. Words by Isaac Watts, 1707 Music: Traditional Celtic Public Domain 14.
