Parchment United Methodist Church 225 Glendale Blvd. Parchment, MI 49004 PUMC Connections Volume 23, Issue 11 From the desk of Reverend Thomas A. Davenport What is HOPE? For many people, HOPE is defined as a wish, or a possibility of something good in the future. This is not what the Bible means by hope. The biblical definition of hope is "confident expectation. Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 For many, HOPE is a deep and abiding trust in God for things that we cannot yet see! And yet, we know that God is with us all the way! Our Vision Planning Sessions over the past year have come up with the idea that Parchment United Methodist Church is able to offer HOPE to the world as well as our community! Come as you are! You are Welcome, you are Loved, and we offer HOPE! (Hope that looks like this ) Helping others Open Hands Prayerful Church Office: 269-344-0125 Office Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday parchmentumc@tds.net OR pastorthomm@hotmail.com www.parchmentumc.org Deadline for December Issue: Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018 E xcitement In the next few weeks, we want to talk and pray, and understand how this new vision might be lived out in the life of Parchment UMC. For as one of our group said, if it is just words and not actions, it will not mean anything. Hope comes with the courage to be bold! Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, 2 Corinthians 3:12. To be very forward with our hospitality, and welcome. To give generously to develop a new community, such as we had in the 1960 s! And it will take us all catching the vision! Pastor Thom Page 1

Community Thanks Dinner, November 18, 2018 at 1:00 pm This Photo by This Thanksgiving Season, we are grateful for so much! We live in a wonderful community, and we are blessed by God! This year, we want to share our joy with our neighbors! On Sunday afternoon, we are inviting 125 of our neighbors in the community for a free dinner. (everyone does need a ticket, however). In order to make this happen, we have formed several teams. Publicity, Setup, Parking greeters, Kitchen, Serving Table, Clean up, Desserts, and Table host/ess. Our team leaders are recruiting team members for this wonderful day! This is a gift to the community, and a day to welcome our neighbors. We know that for some, this is their regular Thanksgiving Dinner. We need you! Perhaps you can be a table host, or a parking lot greeter? We need about 16 pies or cakes. Everyone who helps will have a place at the table also! This is a great opportunity for every member to help out in big and small ways. Every hand is needed. We want to say to our neighbors, thanks for being part of our community! Pastor Thom Trunk or Treat 2018 Page 5
