LEAD Ministry Areas //CrossTrainers CrossTrainers exists to create loving, Christ-centered mentorships between college students and at-risk kids and teens in our community. These college students meet oneon-one with their assigned youth multiple times per month as a means to demonstrate the love of Jesus and help them grow into the young man or woman they were always intended to become. 36 Hour Prayer Watch- Individually praying for the Wednesday night service (30 min) //Sparrow s Nest The Sparrow's Nest offers a very practical opportunity to experience cross-cultural mission work for an extended period of time (a year). It is a ministry in Athens that does homeless ministry during the day and at-risk youth ministry in the afternoons. We have a tutoring program on Wednesdays for Clarke Middle students where tutors do basic homework help while aiding students in preparing for high school. We particularly need leaders to serve in our youth program. Our Thursday youth group has roughly forty students in it 6th grade through 12th grade, and we need leaders to aid in the programming and lead small groups, creating an environment for encountering God and mentoring them as they seek him with their lives. This is a real way to explore what it means to invest in understanding and loving cross-culturally in order to see God's Kingdom advance in a community that is longing for it. Weekly Time Commitment: 3-5 hours Thursday Youth Group (2 hours) Wednesday tutoring (2 hours, optional) //Youth As the leaders of the youth ministry, our purpose is to give youth a true knowledge of God as we intentionally build relationships with them. We desire to live and lead as an example of Christlikeness and Godliness as we join with them in fellowship, worship and Bible study. We partner with local youth pastors and help invest in their youth groups in 4 different churches in or near Athens. In participating in weekly and monthly events and gatherings at the churches, youth leaders will also be a part of our 7-8 Lead Prayer on Wednesdays as well as our weekly discipleship meetings. Weekly Time Commitment: 4-5 hours Athens First Leaders Sunday Morning (9:45 to 10:45) First Word in our Sunday School program. We use the LIVE Curriculum for each grade level. Opportunities to lead the lesson will be divided between the 3 teachers for each grade. Sunday Night (5:45 to 7:30) Encounter is our Sunday Night worship program. The students come together for fellowship, games, worship and small groups. Leaders will
have the opportunity to lead the small groups for different grade levels. The small groups will be centered on the message for that particular night. Wednesday Night (6:00 to 7:15) Engage is our Wednesday Night Bible Study. We take the students downtown to eat dinner and at the dinner table we discuss the lesson for that night. College leaders will lead the lessons with the youth. Leaders will be dismissed in time to attend leadership prayer. Retreats and Other Special Events We have retreats in the Fall and Spring semesters. Leaders are also welcome to attend any of our summer retreats and outings. Leaders are not expected to pay for any retreat or special event. The cost will be fully covered by the church. Leaders are not required to participate in all activities. Each leader will be required to attend one of the meetings. If the leader desires to commit to more than one night, they need to be fulfilling all of the requirements of leadership. (Wednesday Night leadership prayer and worship, discipleship, etc.) St. James Leaders: Weekly: Youth activities on Sunday nights, 5-8, and Wednesday nights, 5:15-7:30. Sunday nights begin with a leader meeting and a student leadership meeting and then are made up of dinner, games, devotion, and small group time. Wednesday nights are made up of dinner, hang out time, worship, and a message. Monthly (in addition to weekly activities): Youth events once/month. These events are encouraged as outreach opportunities for the youth. Sunday nights are the non-negotiable because that's when our small groups meet so the minimum commitment is Sunday night, 5-8, and anything in addition to should not take priority over that. Madison First UMC Leaders: Weekly: Youth activities on Sunday nights, 5-8. Sunday nights consist of dinner, games, devotion, and small group time. Monthly: There are youth events every month which serve as community building and outreach opportunities for the youth. //Worship Being a part of the lead area of worship gives students the opportunity to grow in an understanding of what it means to worship in spirit and in truth, and lead others to do the same. Our goal is to see musicians grow in musicality, character, and their relationship with the Lord.
Also, since unity and community is such an important part of a worship team, students will be required to be at several large group meetings each semester. These are mandatory to play, and will be a time of fellowship and learning together. Roles and Responsibilities/Weekly Time Commitment: 6-8 hours Wednesday Night Wesley Service (1.5 hours) Practice (2 hours on weeks you play) Large Group 6x a semester (2 hours) **Worship is for those who have completed a tryout and have been accepted onto the team by a worship director**
