Dear Friends, The winds of Spring have finally found their way down the Charles! I hope that you have been able to enjoy some of the sweet, fresh air. This was a busy week at St. Paul s. Last Sunday s Parish Town Meeting, the fifth in my two years here, was well attended. After my own report we had a full half hour s discussion about many elements of our life here. I am grateful for the participation and insights. At the Harvard Catholic Center, we also hosted next year s Freshmen during Visitas weekend at the 5:00pm evening Mass and for a spaghetti dinner. I am grateful to the undergrads who were so warm and generous in their outreach. I hope you have seen the good news about the new Head of School for St. Paul s Choir School. Dr. Thomas Haferd has a distinguished career in education, in working with boys of all ages, in Catholic formation and a background in music. We look forward to his academic leadership for many years to come. With that, please remember the Choir School Gala on May 5 and the upcoming Spring concert on May 20. Both of these give us the opportunity to support this school which is such a vital part of the St. Paul Parish mission. Two other meetings of note this week: the Parish Council had its monthly gathering to discuss many ongoing topics, with a particular emphasis on parish finances. I am grateful to Business Manager Tom Hogan for his participation in this conversation. On Thursday, we had our bi-annual meeting of the Senior Chaplain s Advisory Board for the Harvard Catholic Center. We are indebted to the members who travel from all over the country for their insight and passion for our work. Finally, I am a member of the Board of Religious, Spiritual, and Ethical Life at Harvard University. We meet several times a year and it is edifying to see steps being made in Harvard s openness and appreciation of these important dimensions of the students and faculties lives. Finally, this weekend we celebrate First Holy Communion on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Thanks to all who helped to prepare our children for this beautiful sacrament, our daily Bread. FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER WELCOME RECEPTION FOR FR. PATRICK! Join us on Sunday, May 6 as we formally welcome Fr. Patrick Fiorillo to the St. Paul Parish Community. APRIL 29, 2018 CHECK OUT WHAT S HAPPENING AT ST. PAUL S CHECK OUT WHAT S HAPPENING AT SANCTUARY LAMP The Sanctuary Lamp, which burns for eight days and nights at the tabernacle, symbolizes the presence of Christ and marks the boundaries of holy space in the Church. If you are interested in learning how to donate a Sanctuary Lamp, contact Nancy at (617) 491-8400 ext. 303. MASS INTENTIONS AT ST. PAUL S Mass Intentions for daily and weekend Masses are being accepted. Masses may be offered to remember those who have died, for those who are ill, as well as in thanksgiving for a birthday, anniversary or for a special intention. Please contact the Parish Office, (617) 491-8400 for details and to reserve a particular Mass. ST. PAUL S GIVING KIOSK The St. Paul Giving Kiosk is located in the vestibule! The device offers parishioners, and visitors, a means by which to make offertory donations via credit card. All donations made through the kiosk are credited to parishioner accounts. CENTERING PRAYER The Centering Prayer group meets on Thursdays from 6:30pm-8:00pm in Mary s Room (Room 202). Our meetings include lectio divina or readings from Fr. Keating or the Christian mystics, followed by a period of Centering Prayer. We are currently reading The Sabbath by Abraham Joshua Heschel. Readings are provided. All are welcome. For more info contact Susan or Janice (stpaulcentering@gmail.com). FOOD PANTRY The food pantry was blessed with an incredibly generous donation of treats from Cardullo's. It was like a treasure hunt as we opened boxes of gourmet chocolates, coffee, and other items - including some from Europe that we had never seen before. We also celebrated Easter with rotisserie chickens and canned hams, thanks to a few generous parishioners who contributed food and funds as well as the masons who coordinated the logistics. We are finding that even when the pantry is well-stocked, supplies of certain items are quickly depleted. Some of our greatest needs right now are shelf stable boxed milk, canisters of oats, crackers, cereal (other than plain Cheerios), jelly/jam, peanut butter, dried fruit, coffee, tea, and salad dressing. Thank you to all who help to keep our shelves stocked. St. Paul s Choir School Gala & Auction Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 7:00 PM Venezia Waterfront - Boston Visit www.saintpaulschoirschool.us for tickets! Items can be dropped off or mailed into the school office. If you have any questions, please contact Sylvia (sylviamlewis@yahoo.com) or Dianne (dflaherty@saintpaulschoirschool.us). Please support Saint Paul's Choir School so it can continue to fulfill its mission! Thank you. MAKE AN INTRODUCTION & CHANGE A LIFE Alumni (including our pastor, Father Kelly!) from every era of Saint Paul s Choir School have described how the school positively transformed their life s trajectory. Might you know a family with a boy in grade 2 through 7 that you could introduce to us? We are seeking boys who love to sing, and parents who would like a rigorous academic and Catholic education for their son, who may be exploring the benefits of an all-boys school environment, who may be attracted by the school s location in Harvard Square, who may desire that their son attend an elite high school eventually, and who may have mentioned that their son s current school isn t challenging enough or an ideal fit. To make an introduction, please contact Dianne Flaherty (admissions@saintpaulschoirschool.us). We appreciate every introduction - thank you! DO YOU KNOW A BOY WHO LIKES TO SING? If so, come to a St. Paul s Choir School Open House on Friday, April 27, or call (617) 868-8658 to set up an audition. The school is now auditioning students for grades 3-8. Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth. 1 John 3:18

Calendar listings and more information can be found on our new website: www.harvardcatholic.org LIVE THE LITURGY INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK "Let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth." Real love, especially unconditional love, cannot exist apart from action. We are called to bear much fruit and become Jesus' disciples. We live in a world that is suffering so badly. By our actions and the way we organize our lives, we can model the Gospel values that many no longer see as important. We can be healers who put mercy into action. We can choose to unconditionally respect human life and challenge those who do not. We can live nonviolent lives, resist the lust for power, and avoid greed in all its forms. It is difficult to live the Gospel message of love. We will often be met with rejection. We need to allow God to prune away everything that makes it difficult to love. Then we have to take the risk and call others to a higher standard, no matter the price.
