When David Keith retired at the end of 2014 we began to consider how we might best continue what David did so well and expand on that. David always extended a warm welcome to all our visitors and guests in our Sunday morning services and this welcome continued through letters and notes that he would send out on a regular basis. He also worked very hard to get people connected to Sunday School and Ministry opportunities. As we go forward we want to continue and expand those areas of emphasis so that the new minister will have oversight of the entire Discipleship Path including Sunday School and Home Groups. We also see a great need to do more outreach in the community. So, our new minister would be in charge of Outreach and help new Christians move all the way from being far away from God to being a growing follower of Jesus who is becoming more like Jesus every day. Sometimes people want to have a growing relationship with God but they don t know how to get there. Our new staff person would be dedicated to helping people find and follow that path. Some of David s responsibilities have been given to other staff members, volunteers and the elders. Initially this position will be called Connection/Discipleship Minister because those are the main areas of focus. congregational meeting continued on page 2 The Rock / May 2015 Page 1 check for updates... To be more specific, these are some of the Core Responsibilities as outlined in the job description: Lead a Connection Ministry Team of leaders in pursuing appropriate excellence for all of our outreach, and discipling activities. Oversee all aspects of the recruiting, training, equipping, and assessment in the Outreach, Small Group and Education Ministries. Create and oversee hospitality efforts including Sunday morning and special event hospitality, general greeting of members, and with an intentional focus on visitors and guests. Provide visitor information to staff as needed to arrange for awareness and/or correspondence. Gather information from tear-offs or other means. Increase the congregation s involvement in outreach, small groups and education. Recommendation of Larry Vinson to the Congregation for Approval. The Search Team considered over 60 applications, conducted numerous interviews by phone, skype, and face to face, contacted references and arranged for background checks. The Search Team unanimously recommended Larry Vinson to the Elders for their consideration. After interviews, questionnaires and meetings with Larry Vinson the Elders unanimously recommend Larry Vinson to the congregation for their approval. If approved Larry Vinson will start immediately. Who is Larry Vinson? Larry Vinson is the person recommended by the Search Team and Eldership to be approved to serve in the capacity of Connection/ Discipleship Minister. With the retirement of David Keith, those responsibilities have been reconfigured with the rest of the staff. Larry would assume some of the responsibilities vacated by David with some expansion of certain key roles. Larry Vinson received his Undergraduate Degree from Cincinnati Christian University, Cincinnati, OH and his Master s Degree in Theological Studies from Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He has served in full-time ministries in Ohio, Minnesota, and Indiana. As a member of the Minnesota Army National Guard Larry served our country for 10 years and was deployed overseas during Operation: Iraqi Freedom. Larry accepted Christ at the age of 12 and comes from a family of 11 children, he being the youngest. Larry has been in the ministry in either part or full time for the last 14 years. He and his wife, Heather, have been married for 10 years and have 5 children: Noah (9) Felicity (8) London (5) Jovie (3) and Silas (1). One of the greatest deciding factors in the selection of Larry Vinson was his obvious passion for sharing the gospel to the lost and helping Christians deepen their walk with Christ. Our plan is for the Vinson s to be in services this Sunday, April 19 at both services for the Congregational Meeting. The Rock / May 2015 Page 2 check for updates... CornerstoneRock.org

Terry Holt and Tom Tiearney have agreed to co-lead this ministry again this year and we are looking for volunteers to help with garden maintenance (watering; weeding) and the harvest of the crops. Terry and Tom should get the planting completed by mid-may, so there will be a need for garden maintenance from that point on. If you can commit to garden maintenance once per week throughout the growing period (June- September), or if you can help harvest the crops (July-October), please check that area on the Sunday Worship program tear-off and provide your phone number and/or email address. Watch for periodic garden updates on the worship center screens during Sunday mornings prior to each service starting May 17. The Rock / May 2015 Page 5 check for updates... CornerstoneRock.org

Summer Intern Eli Razo Cornerstone feels that it is important to train up the next generation of Church leaders. One of the ways we do this is through having interns. We invite them to come and see what every day ministry looks like and learn from the great staff that we have here. This summer we are pleased to have Eli Razo from Johnson University. Here is a little bit about Eli... I am interested in this internship to serve God in an effective manner that also serves to further develop my ministry skills. Youth ministry is essential to church building and I am especially called to youth ministry, as I have seen the power of early Christian education through my own life and the life of youth that I have served. Through my time in church and several different organizations I have acquired an ability to be flexible and adaptive while maintaining a creative and fun-loving attitude towards my service. I have spent time serving in leadership positions such as serving in my local Fellowship of Christian Athletes branch, mission trips, and currently as the club leader for Youthreach. I have developed patience through these leadership opportunities. Lastly, but most importantly I have learned to take great joy in serving God and teaching of his love and power. Thank You Notes... Dear Cornerstone Family, It is wonderful to be back in church among our brothers and sisters in Christ. It was nice to receive so many warm smiles, handshakes, and welcome back hugs. We appreciate the concern, support, encouragement, cards and many prayers for us during this life storm. We clung to this specific Bible verse, Isaiah 41:10, to renew our strength and lift our spirits. We also thank Tim for his numerous hospital visits and prayers. What a wonderful church family we are so blessed to be a part of. Dear Cornerstone, In His love, Ray and Judy Crady Thank you so much for all the prayers, kind thoughts, cards, and flowers after the death of my dad. A special thanks to everyone who came all the way to First Christian Church in Brazil for the services. God Bless You, Vicki Tirey and family I am currently studying at Johnson University to attain a degree in youth ministry, and I would love to put into practice what I have been studying. I am extremely eager to serve God through this ministry opportunity. I believe that I can bring a lot of energy and organization to Cornerstone Christian Church through this internship.
