PAGE 5 The Jewish Association is partnering with the United Nations Information Centre outreach program to remind and inform the school children of the Philippines about the Holocaust. The outreach program was created by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 60/7, adopted on November 1, 2005. In addition to the above program, we are meeting with various officials in the Department of Education to have the program adopted in all Philippine schools. After making a request to the Holocaust outreach programme in UN New York, they have agreed to send the "Shoah in Europe" exhibit to Manila. We are one of only a few countries where the travelling exhibit will be brought. It will be on display at the Department of Foreign Affairs for one week starting February 9. Then will be moved, for greater visibility, to the PhilPost, Main Post Office.

PAGE 6 BOOKS FROM OUR LIBRARY Every month we will review a book which is in our library. We encourage everyone to use our library. According to Rabbi Talmid, we have the largest library in Southeast Asia. It is here for your reading and learning pleasure. REMEMBER NEVER TO FORGET THE LIFE STORY OF ISRAEL LIOR BY LAUREN AND PHILIPPE LIOR- LIECHTENSTEIN When Israel arrived in Auschwitz he had the number 87584 tattooed on his arm like animal. Those days in the camp seemed like the end of the world, with the madness of death and hatred everywhere. It was easy to cross the line between good and bad, to forget mercy, friendship and forgiveness in order to survive, to steal the last morsel of bread from a dying man. But Israel did none of that; he kept his human dignity, optimism and hope. He never forgot that in him was a man of value and honour. When they were freed and the spirit of revenge came over others, made them drunk with hatred and wanted blood, Israel kept his spirit and soul. He went to Israel to follow his Zionist dream and start a family. He did not become a bitter man, but looked at the world with optimism, always moving. with hope. He carried the pain of his story in his heart in silence until the day came to tell his story. This is the story of a man who remained a man in spite of everything. This is Israel s legacy."
