PASSING THE PEACE LIVING THE WORD One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you All: And also with you *SONG OF RESPONSE Christ Be Beside Me [pp. 9] OFFERING/OFFERTORY *DOXOLOGY Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. ~ Amen PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. ~ Amen. GOING FORTH TO MINISTER *CLOSING HYMN Oh Christ, the Great Foundation [443] *BENEDICTION *SUNG BLESSING [388 V. 1] O Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end; Be Thou forever near me, my Master and my friend; I shall not fear the battle if Thou are by my side, Nor wander from the pathway if Thou wilt be my guide. POSTLUDE Nancy DeKraay *Please stand as you are able. [Bold type] indicates text to be spoken or song to be sung by the congregation. AUGUST 27, 2017 9:30 A.M. 12

GATHERING WITH PRAISE PRELUDE Nancy DeKraay FIRST THOUGHT Jesus is the one who came to reveal God. When you think of it that way, the gospel becomes a rather beautiful and comforting story, because this man, Jesus, was so caring and gentle, going around teaching and preaching and healing. He was a blessing to everybody he met, regardless of who they were. So we can say to ourselves, This is the way God is; not cruel and judging and harsh, but caring and lifting and loving. It s a beautiful thing to believe in such a God. Fred Craddock One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. CALL TO WORSHIP One: Whoever you are and whatever you have done All: We find in God a loving heart and a forgiving spirit One: Wherever life has taken you and however you found faith All: We give thanks to God who seeks us out and loves us forever. One: With our questions and our confusion All: We trust that God listens and understands One: To God we now offer the worship of our lips and the service of our lives OPENING HYMN O For a Thousand Tongues [466] *PRAYER OF THE DAY WELCOME Welcome! Whoever you are, wherever you come from and whatever you have done or failed to do, welcome to this place where we celebrate the love of God and are inspired by the hospitality of Jesus Christ. May you find God s love, peace and grace as we worship together. CALL TO CONFESSION PRAYER OF CONFESSION Georgia Herrera We look for you in all the wrong places, God of the lost, and wonder why we cannot find You. We wander the corridors of power, while You are on the sidewalks, beside the homeless. We sit at the head tables of the world, while You are handing out soup to the hungry at the kitchen's backdoor. We applaud those who win the race, while You are cheering on those in last place. In forgiving us, God of new life, You would transform our cold hearts into those melted in service to others. In granting us mercy, You challenge us to think of all those we have ignored. In gifting us with grace, You enable us to proclaim Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, as the hope, the joy, the peace the world seeks. ~ Amen ASSURANCE OF PARDON (Let us continue to pray in silence.) One: Friends, hear the good news of the Gospel. All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. *ACT OF PRAISE [138 V. 1] Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee; Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three person blessed Trinity. PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION TIME FOR ALL AGES PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE Matthew 16:13-20 [N.T. p. 18] SERMON And Your Answer Is.? Rev. Gillian Weighton 2 11

As we look to the new session of Sunday School, we are looking for volunteers to teach our children. If you are interested and can help out, please contact Pastor Gillian. Also, do you know of a 3 or 4 year old child that will be attending Sunday School this Fall? We are in need of a head count for the School Kaleidoscope Program. If you are aware of a 3- or 4-year old that could be attending Sunday School, please contact the Church office(262.632.1686) or Meg Daniels (262.497.0610), as soon as possible. We would like to schedule teachers for Kaleidoscope, but will only staff this classroom if we have children to participate. Please join ANGELS FOR ALZHEIMER S for the Walk to End Alzheimer's or, if you can t walk, consider making a donation. The forms are located in Ihrman Hall. Even a small step can make a HUGE difference! The September First Presbyterian Book Group meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Vi Shufelt s home 1916 Wisconsin Avenue, #308. The book is The Little Red Chairs by Edna O'Brien, a captivating Irish story by a celebrated master story teller about love, loss, betrayal, identity and redemption. All are invited to these Book Group meetings - male and female - whether you have read the book or not. For more information please contact Vi at 262.681.1109. The Memorial Committee oversees funds that are donated in honor of or in memory of church members. The Committee directs those funds toward projects that enhance the beauty and historical value of the Church, contribute to the mission and programs of the Church, and respect the memory of the people for whom the money was donated. Rather than going towards routine maintenance, we try to support things that have lasting impact and durability. The Committee operates in response to requests from Church members. If you have requests, suggestions, need more information, or would like to help with the our committee (we are in need of new members!), contact Royce Earnest: rearnest1@wi.rr.com 6 7
