November 2018 Tampa Bay Presbyterian Church, PCA Volume 13 Issue 11 From the Pastor s Desk By Rev. Freddy Fritz Tampa Bay Presbyterian Church Staff Rev. Freddy Fritz, Pastor Melissa Bayley, Office Administrator LeeAnn DeStefano, Office Assistant Joanne Campbell, Bookkeeper Ashleigh Kemp, NTCA Administrator Marianne Cali, Nursery Millie Myers, Music Director and Pianist Chris Christopher, Custodian Thanksgiving A favorite holiday for many Americans is Thanksgiving. This holiday occurs on the fourth Thursday in November. In preparing to write for this month s Trumpet, I came across a book by Ken Anderson titled, Where to Find It in the Bible. This book helps one locate specific Bible references to over 3,700 different real-life contemporary subjects, one of which is Thanksgiving. Let me list some of the topics that are covered under the subject of Thanksgiving, along with an appropriate Bible passage: Thanksgiving for God s provision: Proverbs 3:9 10, Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. Prayer after meal: Deuteronomy 8:10, And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless [thank] the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. Songs of thanksgiving: Psalms 33:2, Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! Thanking God for enduring love: Psalm 106:1, Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! 1

TBPC Ministries Adult Bible Fellowship Ed Jordan Thanksgiving leads to witnessing: Psalm 107:1 3, Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. Prayer of thanks before eating: John 6:11, Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. Key to answered prayer: Philippians 4:6, do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Overflow with thankfulness: Colossians 2:6 7, Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. Thankful for everything: 1 Thessalonians 5:18, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. If you are ever struggling to find ways to thank God, here are a number of ways in which you can give thanks to God this coming (and every) Thanksgiving. Hospitality Ministry Happy Happenings Acts 2:42: And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Band of Merry Bakers: The BOMBers have been doing an excellent job of providing goodies for Sunday mornings. Sadly, members of the male persuasion are underrepresented in the rolls. If you d care to join the group, male or female, young or old, you d be very welcome. We have 8 BOMBers, and would like to augment the squad to 12 to achieve a three-month rotation. See Lesley Schmidt in church, or send an email to jrslks92@yahoo.com for more information or to volunteer. Simple Soup Supper for Sunday Seconds: Our kick-off dinner on October 14 was a great start to our latest fellowship endeavor. 20 members of the TBPC family joined to share a delicious meal of minestrone (thanks to Randi), chicken noodle (thanks to Kim) and potato-cheese soups. Bread and dessert (thanks to Chris and the tea party ladies) rounded out the victuals. Plan on joining us on November 11 for the next installment of SSS4SS. RSVP on the pew cards with the number of adults and children (who will be eating) by November 4. Thanksgiving Service and Covered Dish Dinner: On November 18, starting at 5:00 pm, we will once again be able to share Thanksgiving with our brothers and sisters at TBPC. The evening will include a message by Dr. Stephen Clark, a sufficiency of delicious food, a time of praise through song, and a chance to recount this year s blessings. A sign-up board is available in the narthex. Please sign up, or send an email to Lesley, by November 11. Meet & Greet Café: If you are an early riser, we have a job for you! The morning set up for Adult Bible Fellowship and Meet & Greet Café starts at 8:00 am on Sundays. Additional adult or teenage helpers would be much appreciated. Not much early-morning thought is required, just willing hands. Paper Products: In the near future, our Styrofoam paper products will be transformed into actual paper products. This will allow us to be better stewards of God s creation by reducing our non-biodegradable garbage. As an added blessing, since there are fewer vessel-size options in paper, this will also allow us to be better stewards of storeroom space. 2 Cor 13:14: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 3

By Suzanne Swenson On October 13, 2018, the Women s Ministry held its fourth Sister-to- Sister event of the year. It was a tea party held in the TBPC sanctuary. Nancy Kirkpatrick set up a lovely tea station so we could have a spot of tea. Twenty-one ladies attended including 3 party crashers: Pastor Freddy, Jeff Montoney, and Diane Cunningham s grandson. We received a lot of wonderful feedback that I want to share with you regarding our Sister-to-Sister program: God is a relational being. He created us to be in a relationship with him and in community with each other. The part that warms my heart the most about the Sister-to-Sister events is when we gather compassionately together we are doing what the Lord has created and called us to do. I pray God continues to bless all of us as we learn more about him and learn how to graciously live together in community. Coleen Knecht. The fellowship was so much deeper than events we have had together. I was able to get to know my two sisters that I sat next to so much better. I had much more insight into their lives and what they do on an everyday basis. I feel so much closer to them. Nancy Kirkpatrick The Sister-to-Sister event was a real blessing! In a small group setting I was able to get to know a lady I had not known before. It was a time of great sisterhood. The ladies reached out to others who they had not gotten to know really well. It was a great devotional time too. Janice Thompson. I really enjoyed the Sister-to-Sister meeting. It was a nice and humble God time. I felt like sisters loved one another. It was very open and down to earth. We got to know each other better and I hope we continue to do so. Deborah Osibodu. What I enjoy about Sister-to-Sister is spending time with women of all ages and seasons of life, something we rarely can do on Sunday morning. I love to see how the women share parts of their lives that I would never know but for this time of fellowship and sharing a meal together. The testimonies are especially sweet that are shared by whoever leads the devotion. Lillian s referral to a John McArthur sermon about God s glory in our suffering particularly resonated with me; to know that our measure of suffering is directly connected to the level of worship we will give him in Heaven. This is a great encouragement to me! Karen Guest. 4

By Suzanne Swenson Sister-to-Sister Tea was a beautiful example of Christian fellowship. I was especially moved by how God grouped us randomly with the prayer partners we most needed to be with. Debbie Jordan. What a wonderful time of celebrating our sisterhood! I think that in addition to all the comments posted, a favorite part for me is to see the generations coming together. We had three different families represented that were either two or three generations, they are: Gertrude and Michelle Hunter, mother and daughter-in-law; Nancy and Nancy Jo, mother and daughter; and Diane Cunningham with daughter and grandson. It brought back fond memories of my mother and me attending events together. Happy thoughts. Suzanne Swenson. Thank you to all who made this event such a success. Mark your calendars for our next three Women s Ministry events. Save the Dates and come join us! 1. Women s Ministry (WM15) meeting is November 11 right after the Worship service 2. The annual Christmas Brunch will be held Saturday, December 1 at 9:00 A.M to 11:00 A.M. in the sanctuary. Tickets will go on sale after worship service at the Welcome Center, November 4, 11, and 18. They are $10.00. 3. Saturday January 17, 2019 for our next Sister to Sister Soups On brunch. Blessings to all, Suzanne Swenson 5

Tampa Bay Presbyterian Church New Members The following new members were introduced during the worship service on Sunday, July 22: By Certificate of Transfer Richard and Ginny Becker From Trinity Presbyterian Church (PCA) 19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. Ephesians 2:19-21 (NKJV) Taken from Discovering Church Membership, Class 101 by Rev. Freddy Fritz Key truths: The Church is a family; God expects us to be members of a family; A Christian without a family is an orphan. 6
