May is here already! Tim Binns - From Tim s Desk As I write this article it is snowing outside. What a crazy spring! The good news is that nothing catches our Lord by surprise. He knows all things. He knows when things will happen and prepares for them ahead of time. Jonathan being called to another church was not a surprise to Jesus. He had this in His plans also. I got to meet with a wonderful group of leaders and parents who have a great burden for the youth in our church. I will be working with them to continue a great youth program. One thing that I learned in youth ministry is that the more adults involved the more you can impact teens. I really hated cancelling the last transitional meeting, but it would have been impossible for me to lead it. I had already schedule May 10 th as our next date and we will use that day to listen to the reports as well as discuss the kingdom results of our church. Many of you know my wife, Jan, and I were privileged to visit our daughter in East Asia. I have stories to tell that might bless you. I cannot share them on a Sunday morning where we record and place our messages on the internet, but I will share the story on May 6 at 6PM with a slide show as well as testimony time. I think you might be blessed that our visit turned into more than a vacation. That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and may share His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 3:10-11 Jonathan Thiede - My Two Cents Suppose I introduce you to two friends. The first seemingly knows everything about me. He knows where I was born, how long I lived in Kentucky, and where I went to school. He knows how tall I am to the centimeter, how much I weigh, what size shoe I wear, etc.. Now suppose my other friend doesn t know all this information, but he s someone I ve lived with for the past year. This is someone I ve told my deepest and darkest secrets. I ve told him all my fears, and all the sins I struggle with. Which of these two friends would you say *knows* me the best? What does it mean to know someone, and how is this accomplished? The 21 st century Christian church in America has praised the idea that being a Christian is a relationship with Jesus above all else. I would agree with this idea. However, I believe not many of us are growing in this relationship. It s my contention this is because we approach Jesus as my first friend did. We know all about Him, but we don t know Him. So, what does it mean to know Jesus? The answer might shock you. According to Paul in his letter to the Philippians, knowing Christ was about experiencing His power through suffering. Yes, suffering. Think about it. The people you are the closest to are the people you ve endured trials with. Without trial, there is no intimacy. I want to challenge us all (myself included) to stop looking at Jesus as a subject, and start walking with Him as our Savior. Be strong and courageous; don t be terrified or afraid of them. For it is the Lord your God who goes with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. (Deut. 31:6) Daniel Young - Grace Notes Our church has gone through a lot in less than a year. We have bid goodbye to Kevin Singerman and his family, good friends who felt God calling them to serve as missionaries in Africa. We have lost our beloved Pastor Ron. And now we also say goodbye to our new youth pastor Jonny Thiede, who feels God leading him to another church. A natural question on your mind might be why. Why is all of this happening to us? Feelings of disappointment, sadness, and abandonment are bound to rise up. But if we believe that God is directing all of these activities, then we know that He has a purpose in all of this. We may not see it yet, but God s goodness and His providence are still real. He has a reason for this season in our church. As Moses was preparing to die, he passed the charge of leadership to Joshua. And Moses told the whole nation of Israel to be strong and courageous. The same God who led Moses would also lead Joshua. The same God who led Israel through the Red Sea and the wilderness would lead them into the Promised Land. We may not know who the next lead pastor will be. But we know this: It is the Lord [our] God who goes with [us]. He will not leave [us] or forsake [us]. And this gives us reason to hope. And hope does not disappoint.
