TRINITY REFORMED CHURCH MAY 2018 connections The Brass is Coming That s right, Jubal Brass is coming to Trinity Church at 6 pm Sunday, May 20 to present a concert and join us in a hymn sing!! Formed in 1975 by Paul Hoelzley and John Scrippes, Jubal Brass was born to utilize the talents of many people who no longer had an outlet in which to play their brass instruments. Various conductors have directed Jubal Brass through the years. The current conductor is Dr. Mark L. Taylor who took over the group in 2015. Instruments represented in the group include euphonium, tuba, trumpet, French horn and trombone. These instruments are beautifully played by a tool engineer, retired Army staff, professional musicians, music teachers, a chief financial officer, chemical engineer, mechanical engineer, solution architect, band director, math teacher, science teacher, software engineer, president and associate professor. These amateur and semi-professional brass players present a repertoire of familiar hymn arrangements, classical compositions and contemporary praise pieces. Circle May 20 on your calendar, invite family and friends and be blessed with an evening of wonderful music. The offering will help support the work of Jubal Brass and these on-going special events.

August 16 SUMMER MISSION TRIP Los Angeles/Orange County, CA Thursday July 19, 2018 Thursday July 26, 2018 Being the Church Where You are Planted Here s how YOU can help: PRAY for trip participants: Beth Borgman Gregg and Sally Harper Cindy Jansen Tim and Jenna Kroll Maddie Lambert Dianne Moker Mary Naber Pastor Phil Quinn John and Diane Taylor Pastor Deb and Pat Yurk PROVIDE new socks for adults who live on the street. (Suitcase is displayed in the welcome area) COME TO THE PENTECOST LUNCH on May 20 following the first service. Hear about our mission trip. Burgers, hot dogs, potato salad and dessert provided. Free will offering to support the ministries we will be visiting.

3 New Socks for California Socks, Socks and More Socks This July, your California Mission Team will be visiting various ministries that work with homeless men and women. One of the most pressing needs of those that live on the street is Socks! The cost of doing laundry is prohibitive for most folks, so they wear their socks until they wear out or are given another pair. White cotton socks are the favorite for healthy feet but all are appreciated. Socks may be deposited in the suitcase found near the Connection Café. We thank you and hundreds of feet thank you!

4 PENTECOST SUNDAY LUNCH MAY 20, 2018 Between Services (10:30am) Hosted by the LA Mission Team. We will be cooking burgers and hot dogs on the grill. Come hear about our upcoming trip the week of July 19-26. We will be taking a free will offering in order to gift the ministries that we will be partnering with. Hope you will join us! Financial Update The Stewardship team is grateful for your generous and ongoing commitment to ministry here at Trinity Church. As of the end of our first quarter of 2018 we have received contributions totaling $146,750. Our distributions as of the end of the first quarter totaled $129,041. This leaves us with a balance of $16,944. Every gift is important to our ministry here at Trinity, as these gifts allow us to proclaim in word and deed the message of salvation in Jesus Christ. Thank you for your partnership in this important ministry. GRADUATE RECOGNITION SUNDAY Trinity will honor all 2018 high school, college, grad school etc. graduates on Sunday, June 3 at both the 9:30am and 11:10am worship services. If you or a family member are graduating, please contact Pastor Phil Quinn or the church office by Tuesday, May 15. Trinity Vacation Bible School Save the dates of July 30 - August 3 for Once Upon A Time VBS. Stay tuned for more details to come!!

SPORTS MINISTRY Community Co-ed Softball Brian VanNuil Last summer was an overwhelming success on the ball field. Maybe not in Detroit, but right here in Holland, behind East school. Food, fun and encouragement! Here are some of the things I have learned about Thursday night softball with Trinity: Everyone is welcome. If you are playing or cheering on, we would like to see you there. No one is ever picked last. It doesn t matter if you are a star player or if you are not so good. Everyone plays and everyone is supportive. You don t need equipment. You re welcome to bring your own but there is plenty to go around if needed. There is plenty of great food. You can bring a dish if you like but it s not required and the hotdogs are always provided. It is fun! It s great to fellowship with friends in a different atmosphere and you can learn something new about someone. If you are looking for something to do on Thursday night, or if you just don t want to cook, come out and join us during June and July from 6-8pm. 5 Basketball Pastor Chris DeGraaf Tuesday Night basketball at Trinity finished up another season of some great games and ministry at the end of April. Over the past year there has been an average of over 25 men and a few women who have played every week here in our church gym. Those who gather each week have the opportunity to play basketball, meet and interact with one another, receive prayer and hear the gospel message. Tuesday night basketball is a very important ministry to Trinity church because it gives us a contact point with many young men and women who benefit from this positive church experience. I want to especially thank Pastor Phil for his presence at basketball over the course of the year. Thanks also to Kelli Green for getting our drinks and snacks ready every week. Another thanks goes out to James Lacey for running the gym on the nights when I was unable to be there. It is my prayer that we as a church will continue to lift up all these young people over the course of the summer. Lord willing, basketball will resume in September. Blessings.
