May 11. - Mrs. Mary Eccleston, seventy-five years old, died Tuesday morning after an illness of three months. She was born in Prock, LaFayette county, Missouri, Dec. 25, 1840. Her former husband was William A. Baker, now deceased. Nine years ago, she was married to M.M. Eccleston and since that time they have resided on the home place in east Junction. Funeral services will be held Wednesday from the family residence, Rev. J.A. Bennett officiating. Interment in the Looper (sh/be Luper) cemetery. Those surviving are a husband, five sons, Harden Baker of Palouse, Washington, Alfred Baker of Idaho; Fred Baker of Eugene, James and Drew Baker of this vicinity. ~~~END~~~ Note: Mary J. Prock was the daughter of John and Frances Prock, who were natives of Tennessee but who migrated to Lafayette County, Missouri. Mary J. Prock was married about 1859 to a Mr. Bushnell. They had one child, Mary "Amelia" Bushnell, who was born in Lane County, Oregon about 1861, before Mr. Bushnell died. On 03 Nov 1861, widow Mary J. Bushnell married widower William Albert Baker, Sr. In addition to the four children from his first marriage and her daughter from her first marriage, they then had ten more children. William A. Baker died 17 Jul 1899. At the age of 67 in about 1907, widow Mary J. Baker married 70-year-old widower Marshall M. Eccleston. Baker, who died at Silver creek June 16, as previously reported in The Times Herald, did not die a natural death and that the symptoms of his brief illness indicated poisoning. Acting Coroner M. L. Sizemore and Doctors Marsden and Volp went over last Friday, summoned a jury and exhumed the body and made a thorough examination, with the result that death was from a ruptured aneurim [sic] of the aorta, and all parties suspicioned are thoroughly exhonorated. Mrs. Baker came to Oregon from Iowa in 1875 and has lived in Lane county practically all the time since.
