Covered Dish Dinner This Wednesday, August 15, 5:45 P.M. All are Welcome to a Covered Dish Dinner for the whole community, Aug. 15 at 5:45 P.M. in! Invite your friends and neighbors and bring a dish to share. The Evangelism folks are planning a great, fun evening for everybody. We hope you will come and join us! In accordance with our status as an Earth Care congregation, we invite participants to bring plates, cups, silverware, etc. that can be taken home

for washing and reuse. Sunday Worship August 19, 10:00 A.M. A Joint Worship Service of Montreat Presbyterian Church and the Crossroads Antiracism Training Event When churches and other groups come to spend time in Montreat and worship here on Sunday morning, we reach out and invite them to join us in planning and holding worship together. This Sunday, Aug. 19, we will be joined in our 10:00 A.M. worship service by leaders and participants from the Crossroads Antiracism Training Event in Montreat! Pastor Keith is working with their leadership team, and we are sharing in worship design and leadership. Holy Communion will be part of our service. The Rev. Mamie Broadhurst will preach from Matthew 15:21-28. Vivian Hare will be our guest pianist, David LaMotte will be a guest musician, and we will be with many other friends worshiping God together. Please join us! All are welcome. Coming Soon! Montreat Wednesdays starting in September and a Morning Bible Study in October This September, we will begin our Montreat Wednesday series with a study of the Gospel according to Luke. Four presentations led by members of our community will take place on Wednesday evenings in September, followed by a conversational Bible study on Thursday mornings beginning in October. The Kerygma resource on Luke's Gospel, Good News for All, will be a guiding resource (purchase optional). Montreat Wednesdays will resume on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 5:00 P.M. in the Allen Building. As always, all are welcome! Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry Updates SVCM continues to be blessed by your continued financial support and many donations.

The Full Fund continues to provide critical help as 65 households received power bills ranging from $400-2000 the first half of 2018. Cheryl hopes to winterize some of these homes. The Postal Carrier Food Drive in May collected 9,300 pounds of foodthe most in 12 years. The Black Mountain Elementary School K-Kids raised funds to give $1,000 to "Hope for Tomorrow" campaign, Bounty and Soul and Black Mountain Counseling Center. The Second Loaf benefited 20 of the neediest families with left over food this summer. We are excited that six homeless mothers and their children have now moved into their new apartments. A Visit with Calvin Chesnutt Janie & Randy Moore recently visited Calvin at his new home in Iowa and posted this picture with a brief note: Had a wonderful evening swapping stories with Calvin in Iowa!
