While all the numbers are not yet in, it looks like our gross receipts are close to last year s numbers, which were the largest gross amounts recorded in the history of the Queen of Heaven Carnival. I want to thank again Terry Goracke, this year s general chairperson, the Carnival Committee, and the hundreds of others who worked at the Carnival serving people directly or behind the scenes! As I begin to write this article on Monday afternoon, there are many very tired people who put in countless hours over the past few weeks, but a good number of them have been here since early this morning doing the clean-up and tying up many loose ends. It is often difficult to get volunteers for this, but the majority of the cleanup is already complete. I am impressed once again by the dedication and diligence of our Carnival Committee and workers. Thank you again for your hard work! On another front, we are sad to say that Betsy Amico, our Director of Youth Ministry, will be leaving her ministry at Queen of Heaven to take another position at Our Lady of Pompeii in Lancaster. We have been fortunate to have Betsy with us at Queen of Heaven for almost ten years and are very appreciative for her dedicated service. Her love of our youth, their families, and the church has been outstanding and will be hard to replace. Please join us in the parish hall following the 11:15 a.m. Mass on Sunday, July 22 for a farewell reception for Betsy to thank her for her good work here and to wish her the best in her new ministry. We have posted the job of Director of Youth Ministry at Queen of Heaven on our diocesan website. Please pray that we will be able to find a good person to follow on the good path that Betsy has begun. One item from the Carnival that has been carried into church this week is our prayer intention box that was at our parish booth in Midway 2. People had the opportunity to place their prayer intentions on a small piece of paper during the Carnival with the idea that we would pray for them this week at church. The prayer box is now in church placed before the altar. Please remember these intentions during Mass and other prayer times in your life. Finally, we are moving along with the creation of a new reconciliation room and adoration chapel. Construction is scheduled to start this coming week. God Bless! Fr. Greg P.S. Congratulations to our Carnival Raffle Winners! Ellen White, a WNY native who lives in Florida, was the winner of our $20,000 Give-away, and the Meegan Family from West Seneca won the Trip Raffle.

Is the Gospel telling us we should give away everything we own to follow Jesus? That would not be prac cal, of course. And it is not what God is calling us toward. This scripture challenges us to look at what distracts us from being closer to Christ. What do we need to "leave behind" so that we may be er fulfill the mission for which God calls us? Renouncing worldly goods has long been seen as a means toward spiritual growth. But perhaps material things aren't what we need to let go of. It may be our a tudes, bad habits, or selfishness holding us back. Give some thought to what you can leave behind to liberate your growth and bring you closer to God. Today's Faith Moment was provided by Christ the King Seminary. You can listen to Faith Moments on WBEN radio 930 AM, WLOF 101.7 FM, or at www.faithmomentsonline.org. Dear Queen of Heaven Youth Ministry Families, St Catherine of Siena said "If you are what you should be, you will set the whole world ablaze!" It is in the spirit of St Catherine I came to Queen of Heaven nearly ten years ago as the youth minister. In that time I have had the incredible opportunity to journey with each of you and your families, whether you have been with me this whole decade or we've only known one another a few months. It is with great hope for the future that I shared with Fr Greg last weekend that God is calling me out of youth ministry at Queen of Heaven. While there is certainly a sadness to leaving behind teens, families and a parish I have come to love so dearly, as I move into where God is calling me next, I am excited for what is to come - for both myself and Queen of Heaven Parish. I am confident that if the next youth minister receives even half of the love and support from the families here that I have had over this past ten years, the fire I hope I began will burn even more brightly. I will never be able to put into words what my time at Queen of Heaven has meant to me. Please be assured of my love and prayers for each of you and the community at Queen of Heaven. Blessings, Betsy Amico
