G-d dwelt in Solomon s Temple I. G-d DESIRES to dwell with His A. G-d dwelt in Solomon s Temple 1 Kings 8 1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers' households of the sons of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the L-rd from the city of David, which is Zion. 1 Kings 8 4 They brought up the ark of the L-rd and the tent of meeting and all the holy utensils, which were in the tent, and the priests and the Levites brought them up. 5 And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who were assembled to him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and oxen they could not be counted or numbered. 1

1 Kings 8 6 Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the L-rd to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the house, to the most holy place, under the wings of the cherubim. 7 For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim made a covering over the ark and its poles from above. 1 Kings 8 9 There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, where the L-rd made a covenant with the sons of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. 10 It happened that when the priests came from the holy place, the cloud filled the house of the L-rd, 1 Kings 8 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the L-rd filled the house of the L-rd. 12 Then Solomon said, "The L-rd has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud. 13 "I have surely built You a lofty house, a place for Your dwelling forever. G-d dwelt in the wilderness Tabernacle Exodus 40 1 Then the L-rd spoke to Moses, saying, 2 "On the first day of the first month you shall set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. 16 Thus Moses did; according to all that the L-rd had commanded him, so he did. Exodus 40 17 Now in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was erected. 18 Moses erected the tabernacle and laid its sockets, and set up its boards, and inserted its bars and erected its pillars. 19 He spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent on top of it, just as the L-rd had commanded Moses. 2

Exodus 40 33 He erected the court all around the tabernacle and the altar, and hung up the veil for the gateway of the court. Thus Moses finished the work. 34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the L-rd filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the L-rd filled the tabernacle. Exodus 40 36 Throughout all their journeys whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel would set out; 37 but if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day when it was taken up. 38 For throughout all their journeys, the cloud of the L-rd was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel. G-d dwelt in Solomon s Temple o B. G-d dwelt in the Wilderness Tabernacle C. G-d will dwell in Jerusalem Zechariah 12 9 "And in that day I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. Zechariah 12 10 "I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. Zechariah 14 2 For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city. 3 Then the L-rd will go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fights on a day of battle. 3

Zechariah 14 4 In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south. 9 And the L-rd will be king over all the earth; in that day the L-rd will be the only one, and His name the only one. Zechariah 14 16 Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that went against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, the L-rd of hosts, and to celebrate the Feast of Booths. Revelation 21 1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from G-d, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. Revelation 21 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of G-d is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and G-d Himself will be among them. I. G-d DESIRES to dwell with His A. G-d dwelt in Solomon s Temple o B. G-d dwelt in the Wilderness Tabernacle C. G-d will dwell in Jerusalem D. G-d dwells in us today John 14 16 "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. 4

1 Corinthians 6 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from G-d, and that you are not your own? Leviticus 23 34 "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to the L-rd. Leviticus 23 39 'On exactly the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the crops of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of the L-rd for seven days, with a rest on the first day and a rest on the eighth day. 40 'Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the L-rd your G-d for seven days Leviticus 23 41 'You shall thus celebrate it as a feast to the L-rd for seven days in the year. It shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 'You shall live in booths for seven days; all the native-born in Israel shall live in booths Leviticus 23 43 so that your generations may know that I had the sons of Israel live in booths when I brought them out from the land of Egypt. I am the L-rd your G-d.'" 5

Exodus 17 6 "Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. Numbers 20 11 Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank. Exodus 16 14 When the layer of dew evaporated, behold, on the surface of the wilderness there was a fine flake-like thing, fine as the frost on the ground. Exodus 16 15 When the sons of Israel saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "It is the bread which the L-rd has given you to eat. Numbers 11 9 When the dew fell on the camp at night, the manna would fall with it. Numbers 11 31 Now there went forth a wind from the L-rd and it brought quail from the sea, and let them fall beside the camp, about a day's journey on this side and a day's journey on the other side, all around the camp and about two cubits deep on the surface of the ground. Numbers 11 32 The people spent all day and all night and all the next day, and gathered the quail (he who gathered least gathered ten homers) and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp. B. G-d taught His people in the desert 6

Deuteronomy 8 3 "He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the L-rd. 5 "Thus you are to know in your heart that the L-rd your G-d was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son. Deuteronomy 8 6 "Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the L-rd your G-d, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. Deuteronomy 29 5 "I have led you forty years in the wilderness; your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandal has not worn out on your foot. B. G-d taught His people in the desert C. G-d cared for His people s welfare Nehemiah 9 19 You, in Your great compassion, did not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of cloud did not leave them by day, to guide them on their way, nor the pillar of fire by night, to light for them the way in which they were to go. 20 "You gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, Your manna You did not withhold from their mouth, and You gave them water for their thirst. Nehemiah 9 21 "Indeed, forty years You provided for them in the wilderness and they were not in want; their clothes did not wear out, nor did their feet swell. 7

B. G-d taught His people in the desert C. G-d provided for His people s needs D. G-d cared for His people s welfare E. G-d provides and cares for us today 1 Timothy 6 10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. Nehemiah 9 20 "You gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, Your manna You did not withhold from their mouth, and You gave them water for their thirst. 21 "Indeed, forty years You provided for them in the wilderness and they were not in want; their clothes did not wear out, nor did their feet swell. Timothy 6 11 But flee from these things, you man of G-d, and pursue righteousness, G-dliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Matthew 6 30 "But if G-d so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith. Matthew 6 31 "Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing? 33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 1 Peter 5 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of G-d, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 8
