Constitution of the Latter-day Saint Student Association PREAMBLE The Latter-day Saint Student Association (LDSSA) is established by the [Raleigh LDS Institue of Religion] Institute of Religion to help students attending a college or university have a balanced secular and spiritual educational experience during their years of formal education. I NAME The name of this organization is the Latter-day Saint Student Association (LDSSA) adjacent to [ North Carolina State University ], [ Raliegh ], [ North Carolina ]. II PURPOSE To encourage and support members of LDSSA in achieving their academic goals and maintaining a balanced life while on campus. To encourage members of LDSSA to become an influence for good by participating in activities and service on campus and in the community. To provide students with meaningful service opportunities and social and religious activities that are consistent with LDSSA standards. To promote traditional moral values. III MEMBERSHIP Membership shall be open to all students enrolled at [ North Carolina State University ] who espouse the purposes ofldssa as stated herein. Membership in LDSSA will not be denied to anyone on the basis of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, color, age, gender, marital status, citizenship, sexual orientation, or disability. Notwithstanding any other provision, members shall abide LDSSA standards which are the standards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. All officers shall be students at [ North Carolina State University ]. Officers shall be a president and other such officers as the president and advisor(s) determine necessary. The following are additional offices required by the school: [Vice Presidents ]. The president is nominated by the advisor[s] and confirmed by a vote of LDSSA members. The president nominates other officers who are then confirmed by a vote of the members. Officers shall be voted upon annually for each school year or more often if necessary. The duties ofthe president shall include directing the meetings and activities ofthe organization. If applicable, the president or his or her designee shall represent the LDSSA at any inter-student organization meetings at the school. Other officers shall act under the direction of the president, among other things, to plan and publicize meetings and events, to recruit members, and to maintain account of LDSSA funds. V FINANCES LDSSA does not charge membership dues, nor does LDSSA charge fees to participate in LDSSA activities. LDSSA may accept voluntary contributions from individuals to help cover the cost of meals provided in connection with some LDSSA activities. Church Educational The oflcsus SYStem of Latter-day Saints THE LATTERrDAY SAINT STUDENT ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION PREAMBLE Recognizing the needs of college students, and the challenges they face, the Latter-day Saint Student Association of The Church Educational System is hereby established for the purposes set forth herein. I.... The name of this organization shall be The Latter day Saint Student Association (herein sometimes referred to as the "Association" or "LDSSA"). Each campus organization of the Association shall be identified by its college or university locations, e.g. the Latter day Saint Student Association at North Carolina State University. II PURPOSES and PRINCIPLES The Latter day Saint Student Association is an approved program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that seeks to meet needs of individual college campus students. It only functions on campuses where an. L.D.S. Institute of Religion exists. Some of the purposes of LDSSA are as follows: a. Help all Latter-day Saint college students stay closely affiliated with the Church, succeed in their studies, and achieve a balanced life while on campus. b. Correlate Church-related activities on cxfllege campuses under the direction of the Institute of Religion Council and with the approval of the Institute of Religion Advisory Committee. c. Motivate Latter day Saint students to become a powerful influence for good on the college campus. d. Provide Latter-day Saint students with meaningful activities which are consistent with Church

standards.. The Latter-day Saint Student Association seeks to reach and assist each student through the following: a. By correlating with priesthood leaders. b. Individual student involvement. c. Flexibility in organization and function to meet local needs. III MEMBERSHIP.. All members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints who are students at North. Carolina State University are members of the afore mentioned Association. Membership shall be open to all other students regardless of race. color. or creed who desire to belong to this Association and are willing to maintain church standards. IV ORGANIZATION... The Director of LDSSA serves on an international level and is appointed by the Administrathmi of the Church Educational System. He and a board. that is called to assist him. serve as a resource to CES Administrators. priesthood leaders, and area advisors. Among those who serve on this board are the national presidents of Lambda Delta Sigma and Sigma Gamma Chi. and other representatives as needed. On the local campus. the Latter-day Saint Student Association operates as part of the Institute of Religion under the direction of the Institute of Religion Council. A student president presides over an LDSSA council. The director of the institute of religion associated with the campus. or a designated member of his faculty. serves as the adviser to the council. In addition to the president. the membership of the council consists of the other Association leaders. representing all Latter day Saint organizations that function on. or are impacted by the campus. These may include. but are not confined to, the Lambda Delta Sigma sorority, the Sigma. Gamma Chi fraternity, young single adults. married students. campus stakes or wards, and other special interest groups. While each of these organizations operates as an independent agency. each is responsible to correlate programs and activities through the LDSSA council. jointly striving to meet the needs of the individual Latter day Saint student. FINANCES..... Financial procedures followed by the Latter day Saint Student Association council shall be approved by the Institute Director and Institute of Religion Advisory Committee. Procedures and reporting are to be :hi agreement with and follow CES policies and CBS financial guidelines for LDSSA. Procedures should also comply with policy established by the college/university administration. If these are in conflict with CBS policy, CES administration will assist in resolving the issue. CES policy authorizes institutes of religion to charge an institute fee when students register for institute classes. As approved by the Institute of Religion Council. funds from institute activity fees may be appropriated to LDSSA to assist in funding activities. The Institute Director shall insure that all funds are properly accounted for. Financial policies governing the Association should be consistent with the guidelines approved by the Church Board of Education. As approved by the Institute Advisory Committee, some fund raising events may be held to cover costs of LDSSA leadership conferences or workshops. other activities, and for appropriate charitable purposes. Lambda Delta Sigma and Sigma Gamma Chi may also sponsor fund raising events within these same guidelines. Fund raising projects should not subject the Church to property tax, sales tax, or use tax. All activities and programs of LDSSA are funded by the institute. VI AMENDMENTS and BY LAWS This Constitution may only be amended by the Church Educational System Administration. Local campus by laws may be appended to this Constitution upon the approval of the local Institute of' Religicwi Advisory Committee. By laws must be consistent with the spirit and principles set forth in this Constitution.

The program of the Latter-Day Saints Student Association shall be developed by the Executive Committee and Student Council of the Student Association within the framework of policy established by the college/ university administration. The presidents of each local Latter-Day Saints Student Council will also serve as International Delegates. IV FINANCES Section l. The financial policy of the local Latter-Day Saints Student Association shall be determined by the local Executive Committee of the Student Association within the framework of policy established by the college/ university administration and executed by the Latter Day Saints Student Council. V AMENDMENTS AND BY-LAWS Section l... Recommended amendments must be approved by two-thirds majority of the local Latter-Day Saints Student Association membership. Proposed amendments with supporting evidence shall be submitted to the International Executive Officers and Advisory Committee for action. Any proposed amendments made or accepted by the International Executive Officers and Advisory Committee will be submitted to the International Delegates for ratification. A two-thirds majority vote will be required for ratification. Local campus by-laws may be appended to this Constitution on approval of the International Executive Officers. By laws should be consistent with the spirit and principles set forth in this Constitution.
