Saint James the Great Anglican Church Smiths Station, Alabama A Mission of the Anglican Province of America Fr John Klein can be reached at (334) 663-2985 / kleinjw@tigermail.auburn.edu Newsletter #18 - October 20, 2017 Traditional, orthodox Anglicanism Catholic and Evangelical for modern people. On Friday, October 6, 2017, the primates of the Anglican Province of America, the Anglican Catholic Church, the Anglican Church in America, and the Diocese of the Holy Cross, after the
approval of their Houses of Bishops and the concurrence of their Clergy and Laity, signed the concordat, in which the churches also pledged to seek full, institutional, and organic union with each other. The concordat reads as follows: We acknowledge each other to be orthodox and catholic Anglicans in virtue of our common adherence to the authorities accepted by and summarized in the Affirmation of St. Louis in the faith of the Holy Tradition of the undivided Catholic Church and of the seven Ecumenical Councils. We recognize in each other in all essentials the same faith; the same sacraments; the same moral teaching; and the same worship; likewise, we recognize in each other the same Holy Orders of bishops, priests, and deacons in the same Apostolic Succession, insofar as we all share the episcopate conveyed to the Continuing Churches in Denver in January 1978 in response to the call of the Congress of Saint Louis; therefore, We welcome members of all of our Churches to Holy Communion and parochial life in any and all of the congregations of our Churches; and, We pledge to pursue full, institutional, and organic union with each other, in a manner that respects tender consciences, builds consensus and harmony, and fulfills increasingly our Lord s will that His Church be united; and, We pledge also to seek unity with other Christians, including those who understand themselves to be Anglican, insofar as such unity is consistent with the essentials of Catholic faith, order, and moral teaching. (signed) The Most Rev. Brian R. Marsh The Most Rev. Mark D. Haverland The Most Rev. Walter H. Grundorf The Rt. Rev. Paul C. Hewett Fr Klein writes: Why is this of the greatest importance? First and foremost, Jesus Christ wants his Church to be one. We believe in One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. This united witness enables us to speak with one voice to a confused and chaotic world. The synergistic effect of this union will enable our missionary efforts. And this is a testimony to the greater willingness to "deny self, take up the cross, and follow Jesus" as we have been called to do. In short, this action is a modern miracle that advances the cause of Christ, restores to orthodox Anglicanism greater credibility, and enhances our evangelistic efforts. Thanks be to God.

Amen. Summary of the Law (priest) Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ saith. THOU shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. Kyrie eleison (sung in unison) Lord, have mercy upon us. (repeat 3 times) Christ, have mercy upon us. (repeat 3 times) Lord, have mercy upon us. (repeat 3 times) We are creating a user-friendly Newcomers' Booklet. This is only for new visitors. The rest of us are mastering the Prayer Book.
We continue studying Rod Dreher s new book: The Benedict Option. Come join us every Sunday at the coffee hour class following our 11:00 a.m. (ET) Eucharist; we would love to have you do so. "If today's churches are to survive the new Dark Age, they must stop 'being normal'. We will need to commit ourselves more deeply to our faith, and we will need to do that in ways that seem odd to contemporary eyes. By rediscovering the past, recovering liturgical worship and asceticism, centering our lives on the church community, and tightening church discipline, we will, by God's grace, again become the peculiar people we should have been." Rod Dreher in The Benedict Option, p. 102
Saint James the Great pray for us: That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen
