Series at a Glance for Kid-O-Deo About this Series: What would you do if someone told you where to find buried treasure? Would you eat lunch, maybe take a nap, then go get it? No! You would probably go as fast as you could and dig it up! The Bible says that wisdom, the power to make good choices, is like treasure. Making wise choices isn t something you should put off until later; you can start right now. In this series we will look at some of Israel s kings and see how they used the greatest treasure: Wisdom. Memory Verse: Search for wisdom as you would for silver. Hunt for it like hidden treasure. Proverbs 2:4. Weekly Overview: Lesson: Topic: Big Idea: Lesson 1: June 10/11 : Lesson 3: June 24/25 Lesson 4: July 1/2 What s Wisdom Worth? Saul- 1 Samuel 13 The Treasure Map Jehoshaphat- 2 Chronicles 19-20 Wise Friendships Abigail- 1 Samuel 25 Wise Actions Solomon- 1 Kings 6; Proverbs 9:10; Ecclesiastes. When hunting for the greatest prize, I will learn how to be wise. If it s wisdom that you want to find, you can ask God to be your guide. A helping hand and good advice, a wise friend is beyond price. My hands and feet are important too, I can be wise in what I do. Lesson 5: July 8/9 Lesson 6: July 15/16 Wise When I m Afraid David- 1 Samuel 17 Wise Words Josiah- 2 Kings 22-23 God will help when I m afraid, a wise choice can still be made. I can make a wise choice with my hands and my voice! 2

Treasure Hunt Series at a Glance for Kid-O-Deo (continued) Week 1: June 10/11- What s Wisdom Worth? King Saul isn t the greatest example of wisdom. Some of the choices he made were silly, and even hurtful. Looking at his story can help us answer the question What s wisdom worth? How important is it to be wise? King Saul, with all his money, power, and fame, couldn t get away with being foolish. Because of his not-wise choices, he lost everything. Wisdom is just as important for us to practice today. Like our memory verse says, wisdom is even worth more than treasure! Week 2: - The Treasure Map If wisdom is as valuable as treasure, where s the treasure map that leads us to wisdom? How can we find out what the wise choice is? We are all still learning, which means we make unwise choices sometimes. However, we have a perfect and wise guide to help us God! King Jehoshaphat learned to follow and obey God every time he needed wisdom. When he needed to make important decisions, the first thing Jehoshaphat did was ask for God s help. Week 3: June 24/25- Wise Friendships Once you have wisdom, how do you use it? One place wisdom is really important is with your friends. When we make wise choices in our friendships, we can have friends that are fun to be with, help us make good choices, and care about us. David learned the value of wise friendships when a woman named Abigail helped him make a wise choice. Whom do you trust to help you make wise choices? Week 4: July 1/2- Wise Actions King David s son, Solomon, was known as the wisest man in the world. He wrote entire books on making wise choices. We have some of those books in our Bible! By looking at the books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, we will find out how Solomon used the wisdom that God gave him, and learn about some wise choices we can make today. Week 5: July 8/9- Wise When I m Afraid It is hard to be wise when things are going wrong. For a boy named David, following God meant standing up to someone much bigger and stronger. Even though he was scared, David trusted Go to help him make a wise choice. Then, he obeyed what God told him to do, with an amazing result! Even when we are afraid, we can make wise choices with God s help. Week 6: July 15/16- Wise Words Some of the most powerful things you have are the words you use. There are lots of ways we can be wise with our words, but one of the most important is telling the truth. King Josiah told everyone that he was going to follow and obey God, but that meant making a lot of tough choices. When he found God s law, he could have hidden it and acted like everything was fine. Instead, Josiah told the truth and started following God s law, even though it was difficult. 3

What You Need to DO and KNOW Each Week Opening Do This: Create excitement in the room by being enthusiastic as you gather everyone together near the stage. As Kid-Os are entering the large group room, give high-fives, thumbs-up, welcome the Kid-Os by name, dance to and follow along with actions in the song, and get Kid- Os ready to listen and engage. Know This: Creating an environment with lots of energy can help get the Kid-Os excited for what is to come. Interacting with Kid-Os can help them feel known and more comfortable in the environment. Some Kid-Os may still be shy or stand-offish, and that is okay. You will use the time throughout large group to earn their trust and help them engage in the activities and learning. Welcome & Rules Do This: Keep your energy-level high, and get Kid-Os excited to learn together. Go over all three rules in order, but feel free to use various questions or statements to help reinforce the rules. Know This: During this time, you are working to get the Kid-Os excited for the remainder of large group. You can help reduce some of the anxiety Kid-Os may have by giving them a preview of what you ll be talking about later on. Worship Songs Do This: Perform the provided actions to the songs and demonstrate enthusiastic worship for the Kid-Os. Encourage the Kid-Os to join in, sing louder, or do specific actions, but do not force them to participate. Help the Kid-Os engage in singing while continuing to direct them toward God. Know This: Not every Kid-O is going to sing or do actions to the songs. That is okay. Some Kid-Os may be shy or are not interested in singing and worshipping at this point. Memory Verse Do This: Repeat the verse with the Kid-Os three or four times. The first time use very quiet voices, the second time use normal voices, and then we always end using our SUPER, DUPER loud voices! Know This: Do what you can to make this time fun while keeping the Kid-Os focused. Another volunteer approved by kids staff could also lead through this. Kid-O-Whampus Do This: Dance and get Kid-Os excited during the Kid-O-Whampus Rap. Participate in the actions and lead kids as needed. Know This: Some Kid-Os may need more encouragement than others to get involved, but as long as you look like you re having a blast, most of the Kid-Os will get excited about this too. Prayer Do This: Encourage the Kid-Os to be respectful of God and others especially if there is still talking or other distracting actions/noises going on in the room. Know This: We ask Kid-Os to fold their hands and close their eyes so they are less distracted and are being respectful of those around them during prayer. 4

Opening Song 3:00 (Roll when directed) Kid-O-Deo Theme Song Video (Auto advance) Kid-O-Deo Slide Welcome 3:00 Welcome to Kid-O-Deo! My name is, and I am so excited for this awesome time. We get to sing some songs about God, hear an amazing story from the Bible, and maybe even do something fun later called Kid-O-Whampus! Let s start with three things you need to know. They re our three rules in Kid-O-Deo. Rule #1: When I m talking you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place! It s important to have rules, because when we follow them everyone gets to learn and have fun together. Today, we get to go on a treasure hunt! We are going to be looking for something really important, something the Bible says is like a treasure. That thing is called wisdom. Wisdom means choosing to make good choices. One of the wisest and best choices we can make is to learn more about God every day. Can you repeat that after me? I can learn, I CAN LEARN, more about God, MORE ABOUT GOD, every day! EVERY DAY! Worship 3:00 Learning about God can be amazing! One way to learn about Him is to sing songs. We call that praising or worshipping God. This song is about how we can praise God every day. Let s stand up and sing. 6

Song 1: Praise the Lord Every Day (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Bible Adventure 5:00 I love singing with all of you. You can sit down, but keep your eyes open. Somewhere around here is a piece of a treasure map. It s got some steps for us to follow as we learn about God. We are looking for the first piece of the map, so we need to find the big number one. Where is it? Do This: Before the service, hide the pieces of the map where kids can see them. Find the piece of the map with the number one on it, and show it to the kids. Place it on the Velcro board. This piece of the map says that the first step to finding our treasure is to go on a Bible Adventure. Can you all stand and march to our Bible Adventure? Let s go! Bible Adventure Jingle Good job, Kid-Os! We made it. You can sit down. A Bible Adventure is a great place to learn about making wise choices. There s one thing we need before we can start a Bible Adventure. Do you know what that is? A BIBLE! Do This: Show kids the Bible. Right! We need a Bible for our Bible Adventure! Kid-Os, are the stories in the Bible real or pretend? REAL! That s right, these stories actually happened. Some of the stories in the Bible are about people who made really wise choices. This story is about a king named Jehoshaphat (Jeh-hah-sha-fat). Do This: Get the Bible storybook out and sit down in the chair. This story you are going to hear comes from the Bible, but we use this storybook because the pictures help us imagine what it might have looked like back when the Bible was written. The pictures you see in here are the same as the ones on the screen. Let s get started! Do This: Have kids help you turn the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave. Picture 1: Jehoshaphat is king 7

God s people lived in a land called Judah. The king of the land of Judah was named Jehoshaphat. He was a good king, and he loved God. Since he was a king, Jehoshaphat had to make very important choices. Whenever he had to make a tough choice, Jehoshaphat would ask God what to do. He knew that God would always help him make the right choice. Picture 2: Jehoshaphat appoints judges Jehoshaphat told other people to follow God, too. When he would put someone in charge of cities or other people, Jehoshaphat would tell them this. God will be with you when you make a decision. Be careful in what you do, because the Lord our God wants people to be fair. He told them that whenever they needed to make a decision, it was always good to start by asking God. Picture 3: Jehoshaphat, his soldiers, and Jahaziel One day, another king brought his huge army to attack the land of Judah. Before he started fighting, Jehoshaphat asked God what to do. God sent him an answer through a man named Jahaziel (Ja-haze-eel). He said Don t be afraid! You won t have to fight in this battle. God will save you. Jehoshaphat decided to listen to God, and took his soldiers out to meet the other king and his army. Picture 4: Soldiers run from Jehoshaphat It all happened just like God said it would. When Jehoshaphat and his army got there, the other soldiers were gone. God had already won the battle for them. Jehoshaphat had everyone stop and thank God for helping them. They said Give thanks to the Lord. His faithful love continues forever. Series Title Slide: Jehoshaphat knew the secret to making wise choices. He always asked God for help, and when God told him what to do, Jehoshaphat listened. I can tell you something amazing. God will listen to every one of you, just like he listened to King Jehoshaphat. God loves it when we ask him for help with our choices. He wants to help you and be a part of your life. 8

You listened really well, Kid-Os! We ve gone on a Bible Adventure, so now we need another part of the map! Do you see the map piece with a big number two on it? Do This: Find the piece of the map with the number two on it, and show it to the kids. Place it on the Velcro board. This piece of the map leads us to our memory verse! Can you pretend to row your boats over to the memory verse? Know This: Row a pretend boat with the kids through the memory verse jingle! Memory Verse 3:00 Memory Verse Jingle (Auto advance Memory Verse) Search for wisdom as you would for silver. Hunt for it like hidden treasure. Proverbs 2:4. This is a really awesome verse! It talks about hunting for hidden treasure. Do This: Read the verse from the screen. This verse says having wisdom is more important than having treasure, it s worth even more than silver. Remember, wisdom means choosing to make good choices. King Jehoshaphat s wisdom helped him to win battles and lead a kingdom. You might have some different wise choices to make, like listening to your grown-ups, being nice to your brother or sister, or helping someone else. No matter what choice you are making, it s important to have wisdom. Everyone stand up on your feet and let s practice our Memory Verse. Do This: Practice the verse with the Kid-Os 2-3 times. Great job practicing your Memory Verse, Kid-Os! It s good to remember those words from the Bible, because that s something God wants us to know. Worship 3:00 It makes me so happy to learn about God with you. Singing with you makes me happy, too! Let s stand and sing this song called Joy together. Song 2: Joy 9

(Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Application 5:00 I love singing with you. You can sit down, but can you help me look around this room? We have a treasure box here, but to open it, I need a key. Can you tell me where the key is? Do This: Find the key, and use it to unlock the box. Take a handful of silver coins out of the box. Treasure Chest Picture It looks like there is actual treasure in here! These coins are silver-colored. On the screen, there is a picture of what silver looks like. People used to use silver to make coins, because it is very valuable. If you or one of your grown-ups has jewelry like a necklace or a ring, it might be made of silver. Silver is very valuable. If you had a map that led you to a treasure chest like this, you would probably go right to the spot it said the treasure was, and search hard for it! Series Title Slide: Some people hunt for treasure for a long time. They look for silver, gold, and other valuable things. They hunt for these things because they want to sell them and make money. Do you remember what our memory verse said? Search for wisdom as you would search for silver. Hunt for it like hidden treasure. In another place, we read in the Bible that wisdom is more precious than gold or jewels. If wisdom is so much better than silver, the question we should be asking is- where can we find wisdom? Jehoshaphat knew where wisdom came from. He didn t have to dig to find wisdom, or follow a map. Whenever King Jehoshaphat needed wisdom, he went to the same place. He asked God. Remember our Bible Adventure? We learned that whatever was happening, Jehoshaphat asked God to help him make wise choices. God made this whole world, he made you and me, so he always knows what is best for us. God knows which choices will be good for you and which choices won t be good. Best of all, God will always listen when you talk to him. If you need help to make a wise 10

choice at home, you can ask God, and he will listen. If you need wisdom at a friend s house, pray and God will listen to you. So, making wise choices is even better than having silver or gold. We get wisdom by spending time with God. We can spend time with God by talking to him, learning what he says in the Bible, and by doing the things he says are wise, like helping others and being a good friend. Now, we know the way to get wisdom! You did a great job listening, Kid-Os. We almost have this map finished, do you see a piece with the number three on it? Do This: Find the piece of the map with the number three on it, and show it to the kids. Place it on the Velcro board. The trail leads us to the Big Idea! Can you all stand up, and climb up a big rock wall to our Big Idea? Do This: Act as if you are climbing a rock wall, as the Big Idea Jingle starts. Big Idea 2:00 Big Idea Jingle Our Big Idea helps us remember what we have been learning. Let s say hi to Ranger Ron as he tells us what our Big Idea is! Know This: The Big Idea is, If it s wisdom that you want to find, you can ask God to be your guide. Big Idea Video (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Thank you, Ranger Ron! God loves to help us make wise choices. There is one more piece of the map missing, and I think it has something really fun on it. Do you see the piece of the map with the number four on it? Do This: Find the piece of the map with the number four on it, and show it to the kids. Place it on the Velcro board. 11

Kid-O-Whampus 2:00 This piece of the map says to go Kid-O-Whampus! Let s dance our way over to Kid-O- Whampus! Kid-O-Whampus: Musical Kid-Os (Auto-Advance) Take Homes Prayer 2:00 That was a lot of fun! You can all sit down. Do This: Show kids the family connection card and the memory verse card. This is the family connection card. As you leave, make sure your grown-up gets one of these, so they can learn about all the fun we ve had in Kid-O-Deo! We also have a new memory verse card for you. This will help you remember the verse we learned today while you are at home! Let s Pray Now it s time to talk to God. We call talking to God prayer. We can pray about a lot of things. We can ask God to help us be wise, we can say thank you to God for good things that happen, or we can tell God we are sorry when we do something wrong. You can pray anytime and anywhere, but when we pray here in Kid-O-Deo we like to fold our hands in our laps and close our eyes, so we are only thinking about the words we are saying to God. If you want, you can repeat the words of this prayer after me. Dear God, we love you. Thank you for loving us. Help us to make wise choices. Amen. Kid-O-Deo Slide I have loved spending time with you, Kid-Os. Now it s time for you to go back to your classrooms where you will get into groups with your leader and other Kid-Os, have a snack, and do a fun activity. See you later! 12
