30th Sunday in Ordinary Time Traditional Rite, p. 15 Hymn of Faith p. 13 vv. 1 & 2 Penitential Rite, p. 16 Entrance Hymn V. God s divine power has bestowed on us everything that makes for life and devotion, through the knowledge of Him Who called us by His own glory and power. R. Anyone who lacks them is blind and shortsighted, forgetful of the cleansing of his past sins. V. Glory be... R. As it was A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah. Jer 31:7-9 Thus says the LORD: Shout with joy for Jacob, exult at the head of the nations; proclaim your praise and say: The LORD has delivered his people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them back from the land of the north; I will gather them from the ends of the world, with the blind and the lame in their midst, the mothers and those with child; they shall return as an immense throng. They departed in tears, but I will console them and guide them; I will lead them to brooks of water, on a level road, so that none shall stumble. For I am a father to Israel, Ephraim is my first-born. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Gradual V. Pay attention to this, foolish and senseless people who have eyes and see not, who have ears and hear not. Should you not fear Me, says the Lord, should you not tremble before Me? R. How great is the goodness, O Lord, which You have in store for those who fear You, and which, toward those who take refuge in You, You show in the sight of men. Deacon s Dialogue Rev. Mr. Richard Kasprzak I think I have finally thawed out. Conversely, everyone here is thanking us for bringing down a bit of cooler weather. Temps in St. Augustine are usually in the 80 s at this time of the year. The past three months, every day here has been in the 90 s. I figured that the cold kind of sloughed off us and absorbed some of that 90 degree heat. Now the temps are a bit cooler for the natives, and comfortable for Liz and myself. The service at St. Marys went well. Not all the snowbirds are down yet, hoping that they will arrive soon. The temps in St. Augustine are a bit cooler than here in Eustis, but that is because in St. Augustine the Atlantic is close, probably about 20 miles away. Eustis lies about 100 miles away from the Atlantic. Tonight, Wednesday, it is supposed to get down to the forties, which is probably the high in Michigan (maybe). Am looking over the Gospel for Sunday, and working on my Homily. It is an interesting Gospel, and rather short. This is about the third or fourth time with St. Mark. I m trying to get a sense as to what he intended to say with his words. It is interesting, in that here is the blind man wanting the help of Christ, while the people crowding around Jesus are telling the blind man to be quiet, to stop bothering Him. One would think that having been with Christ for several years, they would recognize that one of Christ s missions was to help those who needed His help. The other Deacons and myself, in our twice weekly meetings, do offer prayers for those we know need help, and for all in our church. That is a part of our mission as Deacons. Phil 1:18b-26, Lk 14:1-11 A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews. Heb 5:1-6 Brothers and sisters: Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him: You are my son: this day I have begotten you; just as he says in another place: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia V. The Lord gives sight to the blind. The Lord raises up those who are bowed down. R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark. Mk 10:46-52 As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me." And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more, "Son of David, have pity on me." Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you." He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to You, Jesus Christ.
