NOVEMBER 4, 2018 DEUTERONOMY 6:2-6 HEBREWS 7:23-28 MARK 12:28b-34 The life of our parish is guided by the parish mission which is to educate, form and transform persons into disciples of Christ and to foster their active participation in the life, work and mission of the Church. All parishes are called to be schools of discipleship assisting the People of God with the ongoing life long conversion required to be followers of Jesus Christ. It is in our parishes, families and in the world that we are living witnesses to Christ s love and the faith we profess. Discipelship is our invitation to continue Christ s saving mission here and now and through generous stewardship change the world! Are you new to the area or new to St. Rose of Lima? We invite you to coinsider enrolling in our wonderful parish. Fill out the form in the brochure in the church title Gathered and Sent and drop completed form into the offertory collection, mail to the office, email Joan Schultz at jschultz@stroseshorthills.org or call at 973-379-3912. Become part of Our Church Family Stewardship Reflection for Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time Weekend of November 3-4, 2018 Heartfelt Stewardship; And to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is worth more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices. (Mark 12:33) Of all the gifts that God gives His Stewards, the one He wants the most is our heart. He wants us to share out of love, not out of obligation. Using our talent in parish ministry and contributing money to support our parish mission is important, but it s more important to spend time in prayer with God daily and discern how He is calling us to be generous with all of our gifts. Not just the visible ones, but the invisible ones like love, mercy and forgiveness. Save the Date! Since September 14 th, this local Church of Newark stands at the Cross. Wai ng on a Word that will rouse them (Isaiah 50:5) The Church of the Archdiocese of Newark is invited to gather for prayer at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart on November 30th 7:30PM Longing for Light We Wait in Darkness God s Word Alone Has Power to Save Us

Blessing Cup Retreat Children and parents preparing for receiving their sacraments this year were visited by Ray the Potter. Ray used his pottery as examples that helped them visualize God's creation and His forgiveness and mercy. They each personalized their own blessing cup.

6th Grade Religious Education Cemetery Visit The sixth grade religious education program began the month of November with a cemetery walk/visit remembering those who have passed marked with the sign of faith. The students made lanterns with votive candles symbolizing Christ, who lights the darkness. They also wore albs (albis - white) symbolizing the white baptismal garment. The journey reminded all of the holy or hallow ground of our parish cemetery.

The Beatitudes The 4th graders at Saint Rose of Lima Academy have been studying the Beatitudes in Religion class. They have learned that the Beatitudes are like sign posts that point us to the path of true happiness. The students wrote acrostic poems for the word HAPPINESS and made booklet showing themselves living the Beatitudes. They also surveyed students at SRLA to ask them when they are the happiest. Here are some of the responses. I am happiest when I am with my dog. I have a sushi lunch with my dad. I see my siblings, and everyone is happy. I eat chicken noodle soup. I have Gym and play outside. It is summer. I get mint chocolate chip ice cream from Friendlys. I get to see my siblings because they are in college, and I don t get to see them a lot. Come join us, to share the joy of creating and sharing. Call Francesca at 908-400-0781 for information. Welcome to the new season of Women of Bethany! This year we will be reading about and discussing St. Joan of Arc. Beloved and worshipped by the French people but nonetheless burned at the stake as a heretic, Joan is an example of what a divinely inspired young woman could accomplish for her country, and also what, sadly, a martyr was asked to suffer for her God. We will meet every other Tuesday at 9:45 AM in the Devine Center Conference Room, the next meetings are scheduled for November 6th and November 20th. Reading materials for further meetings will be provided. All are welcome! November Month to Remember the Faithful Departed November 1-2 All Saints - All Souls November 1-30 Remembring those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith.
