LET S BUILD DORJE PAMO MONASTERY TOGETHER Construction of a new monastery for Buddhists nuns in the region of Lavaur in the South of France
City of Lavaur Nalanda Monastery Dorje Pamo Monastery Tibetan Buddhism in the Lavaur region. Vajra Yogini Institute
THE MONASTERY The spiritual environment and establishment of the monastery Tibetan Buddhism came to the region of Lavaur (Tarn) with the creation of the Vajra Yogini Institute in 1979, followed by the opening of Nalanda Monastery for monks a year later. These two centers offer regular programs and activities that contribute to the spread of Buddhism in the region including publishing books and texts, chaplaincy offices in hospitals and prisons, a sacred art workshop, cultural visits and interdenominational meetings. In the region where the monastery is located, that of Lavaur, Tibetan Buddhism has already been strongly represented for almost forty years. A place where nuns can live and practice together is, however, lacking.

THE PROJECT A place for nuns to live, to practice, and to serve the community In 2016 we received the donation of a large house surrounded by 6 hectares of land, orchards, woods, a pond, and fields. Following the recommendations of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, who endorsed the project, we have adopted the name «Dorje Pamo Monastery». In this secluded and peaceful location, surrounded by nature, we hope to create a place conducive to healing and meditation, offering the nuns a haven of peace to study, practice and work for the good of all. The main missions we wish to accomplish: to live according to our vows and to support each other in our spiritual practice; welcome, listen, guide Buddhist and non-buddhist people; develop projects such as the construction of a stupa, rescue endangered animals, market gardening and artisanal activities. «Without proper monastic communities and discipline, it will be very difficult to preserve and spread the Dharma.» Lama Zopa Rinpoche

BUILDING WORK The nuns need your support and are grateful for your contribution Major renovation is needed to transform the current farmhouse into a monastery that will eventually house a community of fifteen nuns. The cost of the structural work (roof and walls) of the gompa-library complex is covered by donations already received, but we are still looking for funds to complete the following work: insulation - 2 934, plastering - 10 1173, carpentry - 22 773, plumbing - 1 546, electricity - 6 710, tiling - 5 350, heating - 5 965, plus VAT 10%. Total of: 60 995. The realization of this project depends entirely on the benevolence and generosity of donors, volunteers and others convinced of the importance of such a place for Dharma development in our regions. The development of the residential area reserved for nuns is currently underway. However additional funds are needed to complete the construction of the temple (gompa), the library and adjoining offices.
