Order of Worship 11:00 a.m. August 20, 2017 ~ Gathering before the Word ~ Prelude Introduction & Toccata Welcome & Service of Friendship Pastor Darryl Evans *Call to Worship -Psalm 107:2; Isaiah 44:23 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from trouble. Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it; Shout, O depths of the earth; Break forth into singing, O mountains, O forest and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed His people. *Hymn of Praise No. 667 Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies *Prayer of Confession God of birth, God of joy, God of life, we come to you as a people hungry for good news. We have been so dead to miracles that we have missed the world s rebirth. We have preoccupied ourselves with pleasures and have overlooked the joy you offer us. We have been so concerned with making a living that we have missed the life you set among us. Forgive us, gracious God. Open our eyes and our hearts to receive your gift; open our lips and hands to share it with all humanity in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. (Please continue in a moment of silent, personal confession.) Leader: People: Believe the Good News of the Gospel: In Jesus Christ we are all forgiven! LUX PRIMA David Hamilton *Song of Response Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Prayers of the People & the Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. ~ Proclaiming the Word of God ~ Word with our Children Mary Lee Evans Bless the Lord O my soul, O my soul worship His holy name Sing like never before, O my soul. I ll worship his holy name. (Four year olds through 2 nd graders may now be excused to Children s Church. An adult will now escort the children to the Children s Church Classroom, which is in the Fellowship Hall, where they will be picked up by a parent after the service.) Anthem 10,000 Reasons Myrin/Redman Chancel Choir Scripture Reading 2 John Leader: People: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Sermon It s Incarnational Darryl Evans Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist... I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face-to-face, so that our joy may be complete. - 2 John 7, 12 ~ Responding to the Word of God ~ *Affirmation of Faith I John 3:16-23 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for one another. How does God s love abide in anyone who has the world s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? Dear children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts

before him whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God; and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him. And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us. Offering & Offertory Trio on St. Elizabeth *Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. *Prayer of Thanksgiving *Hymn of Commitment No. 926 God of Grace and God of Glory CWM RHONDDA *Benediction Postlude Prelude and Fugue in C Major *All who are able please stand. CCLI # 2221136 To Our Guests Welcome! We are delighted that you are worshiping with us this morning. We hope you find today meaningful and refreshing.
