31st Sunday in Ordinary Time Contemporary Rite, p. 63 Penitential Rite, p. 66 Entrance Hymn V. You, O Lord, are near and all Your commandments are permanent. Of old I know from Your decrees, that You have established them forever. R. See how I love Your precepts, O Lord; in Your kindness give me life. V. Glory be... R. As it was A Reading from the Book of Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy 6:2-6 Moses spoke to the people, saying: "Fear the LORD, your God, and keep, throughout the days of your lives, all his statutes and commandments which I enjoin on you, and thus have long life. Hear then, Israel, and be careful to observe them, that you may grow and prosper the more, in keeping with the promise of the LORD, the God of your fathers, to give you a land flowing with milk and honey. "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone! Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words which I enjoin on you today." This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm I love you, Lord, my strength. (Psalm 18) A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews. Hebrews 7:23-28 Deacon s Dialogue Rev. Mr. Richard Kasprzak Greetings from Florida. The weather here is crummy, lots of wind (cool), lots of sun (hot), and some clouds (cool). We made it out to the beach once (drove right up onto the sand and parked) but the wind kept us in the car. Maybe next time we can get out and get our feet wet. We went again on Thursday, but high tide meant that the beach was closed-bummer. I have had two services here while Fr. Berry is still recovering, but am hoping that he will be back this Sunday. (I am writing this part Tuesday night). The Gospel for today, is very strong. The scribe who questioned Christ received his answer in no wishy-washy terms. Hear oh Israel, The Lord our God is Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart. We, thousands of years after this man s question of Christ, must remember the answer. The Lord our God Lord alone. Looking at the world today, it seems that other gods may come first. Christ went on with the second commandment, and it also is love. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Looking at what is on TV nowadays, in the movies, even books and magazines, it seems that a lot of people do not like what they are, and do not care about anyone, just themselves. Loving yourself means taking care of yourself to the best of your ability, not putting yourself in harm s way, not using dangerous drugs. Tough world. Just got word on Bishop Bilinski passing. Bishop Bilinski will be sorely missed. May he rest in Peace. Knowledge is proud that it knows so much; Wisdom is humble that it knows no more. ~WILLIAM COWPER Brothers and sisters: The Levitical priests were many because they were prevented by death from remaining in office, but Jesus, because he remains forever, has a priesthood that does not pass away. Therefore, he is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to make intercession for them. It was fitting that we should have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, high- November 4, 2018 2 November 4, 2018 11

Stanley Bilinski July 11, 1953 November 2, 2018 er than the heavens. He has no need, as did the high priests, to offer sacrifice day after day, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did that once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints men subject to weakness to be high priests, but the word of the oath, which was taken after the law, appoints a son, who has been made perfect forever. This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God Gospel Acclamation V. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia V. Whoever loves me will keep my word, says the Lord; and my father will love him and we will come to him. R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark. Mk 12:28b-34 One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him, "Which is the first of all the commandments?" Jesus replied, "The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these." The scribe said to him, "Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, 'He is One and there is no other than he.' And 'to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself' is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared to ask him any more questions. Amen. A Note From the Pastor In the early morning hours of November 2, 2018, Rt. Rev. Stanley Bilinski, Bishop Ordinary of the Western Diocese and son of Our Savior Parish, entered into eternal life. We are shocked and saddened by his passing from our lives. However, his life will be celebrated Tuesday and Wednesday with viewing at All Saints Cathedral in Chicago and with a funeral celebrated by Prime Bishop Anthony Mikovsky at 10:00 AM Thursday. If you are planning on attending the funeral, please inform me so I can pass the information on to those planning the event.
